A Thailand ARMY (shout out to Sky_hxneul) was kind enough to educate us and explain that this was filmed in Thailand and that place is called the "Thief Market" Rattanakosin Island's ( Old name of Thailand from 1782-1892) and it was the first international shoping center in the period after the abolition of slavery.. This is how he explained it : so this market came to exist because the people in the palace freed from slavery when they moved out of the palace, they received some goods from the master and also stole some They then brought those goods to sell them in this area. Now we know that Haegeum is a traditional instrument but also means the liberation of the prohibition..

Hi.This is my take on this. The king from daechwita and Agustd got reincarnated in the present. The king still remains to be a powerful individual in the present. This can be seen when he was coming out of the police station. The police office at the door saluted to him. Agustd in the present seems to be an undercover cop. At first you would think that he's a bad guy but as the mv progresses, you will see that he laid a trap for the reincarnated king. At the end of the video, Agustd was able to defeat the reincarnated king (who is now a corrupt high ranking officer) just like what happened in daechwita. I assumed that the reincarnated king was corrupt because he got pissed when Agustd burned the money he took from the reincarnated king's people. Another proof that Agustd has the role of an undercover cop is the scene at the last part of the mv. He was in a police car but was free to get off of it to eat at a restaurant. Therefore, he is not being arrested but escorted. As for the song, the words used were very good. I guess he was trying to say that our society is filled with hypocrisy, greed, and jealousy. People only support and believe in things that would benefit them. Our society frowns upon a lot of things (therefore the term forbidden was used). I guess Agustd is saying that it is okay to do such things as long you don't overindulge and hurt others. The real evil people are those like the reincarnated king who use their money or/and influence to benefit themselves even to the point of they are causing harm to society. In the end Agustd killed the reincarnated king and was supported by the people in scene. I guess Agustd was implying that through his own means (maybe through his songs and good deeds) he will try to fight injustice with the help of the people who agree with his beliefs. Well , that was how I interpreted everything, but I maybe wrong. LOL. As for the song, I soooooo love it.

I think that the police officer was the new king from Daechwita, since the old king was blonde Agust D (from the first album). The black haired Agust D was about 'righteousness', hence going after the bad king and represent a police officer in this MV. Now the 'haegeum' (or free-thinking, against the grain, going against the 'good' or 'norm') Agust D kills the righteous black haired Agust D. Each album is a different Agust D. First was blonde Agust D who was killed by the black haired Agust D, who is killed by the new 'haegeum' Agust D, ending the trilogy.

I agree, also I think they will always remain reincarnations. Where there's always the corrupt and powerful in the world there's always the opposite, the lowborn trying to fight against the system and or trying to improve it.
I had to watch it like 5 times to really pay attention to the lyrics because this man was being a MENACE, like he looks so good 😭😭 but the song is amazing, the lyrics, everything!!! Also the cinematography is top notch as ALWAYS!!! Him in a suit is actually a corrupt (?) police officer and the other is a criminal, and yes the police officer is most likely the Agust D who killed the tirant king in Daechwita lol

You guys have to review the album, it's so good!!! All the songs are amazing and so profound!! Oh, and we'll get another MV on the 25th for "Amygdala" which is a VERY deep song so I'm very curious about how the MV is gonna be like, he said Daechwita, Haegeum and Amygdala MVs are connected and we should watch it in a row to see the progress and stuff!!
My jaw dropped last night when it premiered! The cinematography, the outfits, the lyrics!!! And the fact that idk how but the universe blessed me with tickets to see this live… IDK HOW IM SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE
I think all his mvs are connected. The blond Agust D in Agust D was angry and showing that he made it despite everyone. In Daechwita, that Agust D has turned into a tyrant and is the blond-haired king with a scar. He is then killed by the rebel Agust D, who also has a scar but black hair. Now in this video, that Agust D has also been corrupted by power and is a crooked policeman or crime boss. Then comes the next version of Agust D without the scar who steals the crime boss' money and then kills his old, corrupted self to be set free as a new person. Genius.

@@efraherrera9409 this explanation is from someone on twitter but 解禁 (jiějìn) is the hanja / chinese characters for 해금 (haegeum), meaning “abolish / lift the ban” it was possibly added to distinguish from 奚琴 (xīqín) which is a traditional instrument + spelled / pronounced the same way in korean as 해금 (haegeum)
Efra is so into haegum!! that.a meme..can be made out of It.😂😂
apparently the setting is in thailand, it's like a famous market before which is now privately owned so ppl can't visit it anymore
This song's simply about freeing what's forbidden." 🔥
The setting is Thailand (Bangkok). Suga said to listen to Daechwite, Haegeum and Amygdala in that order to understand the events,
Eyyy its your editor Megan. Lol. Glad you love it. I think everyone told ya its shot in Thailand. But yes the prod is huge. 80+ crew members (and the cinematographer got a cameo haha) And i agree color palette is beautiful! So much parallelisms to Daechwita.
the easy way to understand of agust d is just like yoongi said, his album of himself as agust d is the journey of him with different stage of emotions, from 1st album to this final album you can tell he deliver different meanings, story, and emotions
9:57 it’s actually funny that you mentioned this cause he was actually offended a role but he declined cause he said he make music and he is not good looking enough to be an actor 😂
The lyrics in this album just broke me. ❤💜💜
해금 or Haegeum literally translates to “the lifting of the ban” which makes sense because in the lyrics he says “this song is simply about freedom”
you guys neeed to review the whole album its such a masterpieceee
The incredible thing here is the fact that Agust D produced and wrote this song himself and he alone, that is to say, absolutely all the lyrics came from his mind, heart and being is incredible, By the way, he said that he has already refused to act because several scripts for series and dramas have already arrived but he said no because music is his thing and not acting.
there's a song called snooze featuring woosung from the rose on the album its sooooo good !!!!
Daetchwita, Heageum (new album) and Amygdala (new album) are connected! You need to review the new album, it's insane!!
HE CAN DO EVERYTHING. FR THE BEST KPOP RAPPER !! HE IS A GENIUS THERE IS NO ONE LIKE HIM!!! THE ALBUM IS A MASTERPIECE
Haegum has two meanings one is a two sthringed insturment, the other meanings breaking what ever binds you. I think basically in the new world the police chief is now the king and again agust d congronts him. He lists all the things that bind us in life and we need to fight to be free.
u guys are corrected, all the mvs are connected. yoongi will be releasing an mv for “amygdala” and he asked us to see ‘daechwita’ then ‘haegeum’ and then ‘amygdala’
He has the explanation on the countdown of the primier.
Haegeum" is a traditional 2 string instrument from Korea. But it also mean something like "lift a ban" or remove prohibition" That's why the lyrics are about freedom vsself indulgence and protest/riot or revolt.
Yoongi actually mentioned to watch Daechwita, Haegeum and Amygdala in one sitting.
He mentioned in his IU interview that he was asked to act after Daechwita came out! But he rejected the offer 😅
Haegum means traditional korean instrument but also mean uplifting ban from something forbidden.
suga said in a resent interview with IU that he did get an offer to play a role in a kdrama but he refused because he wanted to make music not acting. and he said he wasn´t hansome enough to be an actor and IU said yes he was. it´s was sweet.
omg i love your reaction!!! 💜💜💜💜
“Haegeum” means “allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden.”
Blonde Agust D from the first mixtape is the rebel against the system who with time becomes the blond tyrant in the Daechwita video, who got too lost in his greed. The black-haired rebel who killed the blond tyrant then becomes the corrupt policeman in this video and like he did in the past, when he walked a better path, a rebel to the system comes and becomes his demise. Many of us theorize that each rebel is there to keep older versions of Agust D in check, when they go from rebelious to comfortably taking part of a corrupt system. If you pay attention, each corrupt version of Agust D doesn't fight back as much as he could and usually welcomes the rebel with a smile. It's like "okay, I fucked up, I'm aware I've become what I used to hate, so you're here to balance things out, but I'm still prideful so I'll try to kill you too, but I won't try that hard because I know you're right"
Haegum is amazing!! the MV is like a movie, the lyrics are on another level, it's so deep and raw and let's not talk about the whole album because damn I think It's my favorite one from him!! It's a masterpiece. Min Yoongi is truly a genius 🔥🔥
Suga himself explains what Haegum means in IU’s Palette & in his Disney+ documentary. It means “Freedom from the forbidden”.
In Daechwita, D2 Agust D (black hair/scar) kills Agust D Agust D (blonde hair/scar) because he became a tyrant king. Suga grew in popularity from that first mixtape and his time in BTS and maybe became temporarily blinded by his position, which he has mentioned scared him. Agust D Agust D was anger personified. D2 Agust D was getting rid of that part of himself, healing from it to move forward and become a better person, a better adult. Humbling himself and bringing himself down to earth. In Haegeum, DDday Agust D (black hair/no scar) seemed to have been following and working for D2 Agust D because of the fact that he took out the king and used to be this rebel on a path of saying F U to the system, but D2 Agust D became greedy, thinking of the money and working with the system to get more. DDay Agust D is on his rebel kick and was like gotta take you out bro, sorry. Suga's position on the world stage as a musician was obviously getting higher with no stop in sight, the kid had goals on goals for himself and his team and they were breaking records wanting more for themselves at every point. D2 Agust D was greed personified. Dday Agust D planned and killed D2 Agust D the same way the king was killed in Daechwita to get rid of the greed part of himself, heal from his past self and move forward yet again to become an even better person learning new things on his way. The cycle continues because after all is said and done and the corrupt cop is killed, Dday Agust D still uses the cop car with the lights on to take him to eat with the same chopsticks he used to kill. The world can change but it doesnt take a day and he needs to gain power to be able to create positive change and I think thats why he takes D2 Agust D's jacket to the restaurant with him almost like hes going to suit up (get out of the rebel clothes) and become a different version himself, one he might have to kill later on (although he may not know it). Thats why the king/cop never fights back they challenge him yes but take the bullet in the end (even with a giggle) kind of like "I wonder who you'll become", "you're naiive to think that this will be your final form", "you'll end up just like me", "you'll be killed too, just wait". Suga always expresses that existence is about learning from your past and trying not to get caught up and moving forward to be better. D2 Agust D got caught up, he is not angry anymore but he had greed and every new version of himself is looking within and realizing whats wrong and trying to change it. He knows his position and power he holds. He makes alot of money, yes, but he earned it. He is aware of the society we all live in and people can say that he has become part of the system but to me he chose to use the power and influence he got from the system that WE ALL PARTICIPATE IN to question it in the most public way ever. He actively wants to create change, positive change, a change that can only happen if the collective gets involved. He never takes out the king/cop on his own, he always has a group of rebels behind him ready and willing to fight with him. Thats Us! This whole album is amazing! He truly is such an introspective and wise person. He genuinely wants to comfort people and make the world a better place and I dont know why anyone would not want to be on board for that. Anyways super long winded, my bad. Glad you enjoyed.
Haegeum is also the name of the instrument, but another meaning is to lift the ban. You can interpret this song as meaning to lift the ban.
Haegeum is an ancient Korean traditional instrument It also means releasing what was forbidden I think it's ambiguous
I think this was filmed in Chinatown in Bangkok. The tuk-tuks give it away, plus all the Thai names in the credits. Beautiful video!!!
I must say I love this on separate levels... Mv great, as you said Honk Kong movies, the good, cool ones:) the song itself, ritm, energy, rap and absolutely love the thoughtful lirics, mindset, view on our social living... Of course meaningful message on a great but with a cool, raw mv... Suga is a genius ❤if only people would give as much attention to the lirics, think about them... As they do to the mv 😉
Well it's not China it's Thailand. This was shot in an Old town in Thailand which is currently empty and up for reconstruction
El Agust D con la cicatriz es el mismo que mató al rey (Agust D rubio) en Daechwita. En este MV, es ahora SUGA quien mata al Agust D que mató al rey. Se puede ver que SUGA no tiene la cicatriz distintiva de Agust D.
IT'S BANGKOK, THAILAND🤩(Chinatown) and Agust D writes and produces his own songs 💜
Yoongi told us on IU palette that he got send script after daechwita was released but said he turned it down
Chicos, haegeum es un instrumento tradicional coreano que se usa en la canción, pero también significa " levantar todo lo prohibido "
i hope you guys listening to the whole albums, it's really worth it for real 🔥🙂
The king of swag is back
Best soloist
I personally think it's all a loop of him killing off the dark greedy side of himself. In several songs since his first album, Yoongi has said that there's a side of him that feels like he becomes a monster that just wants more. At the end of Daechwita he says there's no higher place to go anymore so he now wants to just step down to earth. He seemed to struggle with not wanting to become this monster. I think blond Agust D from the first album became the greedy monster and became the Evil king we see in Daechwita. The commoner black haired Agust D that killed the evil king later becomes corrupted himself and becomes the corrupt cop. It's the cycle of corruption. But now, this new Agust D no longer has a scar, no longer feels like there's this monster within, maybe. Just my interpretation. I'm super excited (and also a bit scared) to see the amygdala mv for the continuation!
I can imagine Agust D in a gangster movie. I wish he would accept one acting project.
The mv is filmed Thailand not China, I amnot sure of the area is China town in Thailand but I saw tuk tuk and shops like these are in Thailand , filming location I have seen in many mafia series of Thailand and vibe also was so Thailand 🇹🇭.
It was filmed at the China Town of Thailand, react to the whole album, all the songs are sick specially the lyrics
Haegeum in Chinese is 解禁, just like what's shown in the movie -- it means to lift the ban, free from the restrictions. Another meaning is 奚琴, which is a Korean traditional string instrument, derived from the ancient Chinese instrument xiqin [from Wiki].
FUN FACT: Suga got an acting offer after Daechwita, I wonder how many offers he will get now😭 Also, I'll never be able to look at chopsticks as the same way as before!
This was actually filmed in the Chinatown in Bangkok. You can tell from the tuktuks.
also the final scene with the chopsticks is the biggest "eat the rich" reference (at least for me) in the whole mv
Just like in Daechwita, Suga kills his alter ego King/ Boss self even in Haegeum
Actually this is hommage of korea movie.. .titled.. The Yellow sea ..directed by Nahongjin.
Suga said that if we want to know the story, we should watched Daechwita, then Haegum and the last is Amygdala. The MV for Amygdala will realese soon. Sorry for my bad english. Love your reaction ❤

The haegeum (Korean: 해금) is a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings; derived from the ancient Chinese xiqin.

August D always the wild guy who’s not afraid of saying his thoughts. But he will always be my talented Yoongi. ❤️❤️❤️
HAEGEUM EXPLANATION: The fact that yoongi came from a very average lower middle class family bg and was frustrated with capitakism but eventually has to participate in order to live and fucnyion in a society paralles to how agust d eating with the chopsticks he murdered someone with is direct commentary on having to participate in the capitalist society he consistently criticizes in order to survive. He has to partake in it bc of obligation LITERALLY to feed himself (referring to the last scene)it’s so interesting. and using the police as a ruling power in the social class system, how the police are meant to protect people but in the end do more harm thru corruption, how yoongi's original intentions were good until he too got corrupted and caught himself (last part where he kills himself) it feels like a pattern. he keeps killing off his old self when that self reaches the point of greed and corruption. he keeps doing it to bring himself back down so that the humble version of himself lives on instead of the one tainted with greed.
the mv was shot in Thailand btw

this MV was recorded in Thailand ok, it's on the BTS channel
Yoongi using the same chopstick to kill & eat the noodles might mean you kill to eat, you eat to live
This song and the mv had me in a chokehold. Not only did Yoongi's acting get MUCH better (and he was already literally a pro), but the entire cinematography backs it up. The song is a banger, no doubt. Haegeum is a traditional instrument, but it also means release from prohibition. The mv is so fascinating. In Daechwita, he killed the blond Agust D because he was too corrupt with anger and resentment. Agust D couldn't take it anymore. But in Haegeum the Agust D scar ended up as corrupted as the blonde Agust D. It's interesting that the new Agust D basically started the mv by killing a person and ending with the memory of it. Agust D is a trilogy because Yoongi was finally able to unite with Suga and Agust D. They are no longer apart because he learned to embrace all of his feelings. In this MV, the new Agust D. is a vigilante and violent villain because that's what Agust D is. But instead of just killing the scarred Agust D, who in this narrative, is a corrupt secret agent, (as happened to the blonde Agust D), he ALSO burned the money scar that Agust D had. My interpretation is that this whole mv revolves around FREE SPEECH, which may not be correct. 🤣. Finally, cheers to SUGA for yet another unique work of art.👏❤

I don't know if I think the black haired Agust D from Daechwita is necessarily 'corrupt', I just think he represents 'righteousness' (such as going after the corrupt king and then being represented as a police officer) while the new 'haeguem' Agust D represents going against the grain or against society. And maybe that's how Suga felt. Going from frustrated, mad, sad Agust D in the first album to feeling on top of the world, the 'good guy' Agust D in the second album, and now the 'I'm living life how I want' Agust D now, who isn't bad but also not scared of criticism and fitting the norm/standards.
