You know what's even worse? Regardless of the good job that techs do, they have a high probability of getting a repeat just because a customer words their problems a particular way.

I saw the writing on the wall a year ago and spectrum is bleeding customers at an alarming rate because of how low they want their techs standards to be. Tom Rutlidge and the management at Spectrum are running the company into the ground like they did with charter. I feel your pain man, I loved my job, and took my latter off my truck atleast 4-5 times a day and worked hard to do what was needed. I love cable and hope to do it again soon.

I worked for a company called Wave broadband here in the Bay Area. Paid decent, mainly did it for the experience. What I liked the most about that job was meeting satisfied customers, fixing their issues, meeting nice people and just pole climbing. The absolute best was climbing in SF and getting some amazing views.

Never again will I work for Spectrum!! Was a SSA in the retail store for 6 months and I couldn’t take it. We would close the kiosk and tell customers that it wasn’t working and to pay their bills they’ll have to talk to a store rep when really they wanted them to sell them on additional services. I would get constantly yelled at because the machine not working and would have to lie to them on why it’s not “working”. My management team would get on me for not keeping everyone calm. All they care about is sells and could care less if you’re there to drop off the shit equipment. Long wait times, I just couldn’t take it anymore. No wonder in that specific store, the SSA before me only lasted months before quitting. Since then I’ve come back to AT&T and I’m loving every single day of my much higher position l!! Thank god I left Spectrum!

They changed the modem, then when the supervisor left, the technician told me that the supervisor was making up excuses why the wifi is slow. He said to buy my own modem and that spectrum is a$$. The app would make it impossible to clock out. Between the app, HR, supervisor, and that terribly managed call center you just couldn't ever get the hours fixed. Pay close attention and log everything and there are lawsuits to be had here for sure. They are an extremely unethical company.

Xfinity has just became available in my neighborhood. I've had it less than a month and my damn printer doesn't work half the time. The printer company says it's the internet the internet says it's my phone the phone company says they don't have anything to do with it because I'm trying to print from my Wi-Fi. I'm going crazy chasing my tail. If a page starts to print and it loses signal for a split second the printer stops and sends the paper out. Sometimes it may have only a word of two printed on it.

@@LH-kz2nf Xfinity tech here. based on what you described it cannot be a problem with the wifi per se. If your computer browses the internet just fine and can download/stream content, but your printer cant print, its not a wifi/xfinity issue. Moreover, Xfinity cant diagnose or help you with the printer My first guess, is you might need to connect the printer to the 2.4 network, not the 5.0, if you're trying to use wifi to connect (most printers and other secondary devices like security cameras need a dedicated 2.4 network to work properly)

I filed a complaint, they gave us the full package for pennis! 6 months in experienced a fire ,I called and asked for service to be put on hold till I rebuilt ,I called back after remodeling and was told they had no record of the deal they gave me! Then a month later I got a letter in the mail that I owed 3800.00 for fire damage done to outside box, I called and had a field adjuster come out and showed him that they put their box on my neighbors property he wanted to know who gave them permission! Wow, so it’s not only the customers who hate spectrum. Pre covid I used to be in LA a lot for work and have Spectrum in my house because it’s pretty much the only option. Cuts out like crazy, ping spikes regularly, ‘up to’ speeds of 200 Mbps but I was lucky to get a little over 1/3rd of that. 70 Mbps is obviously not bad, but it fluctuates like crazy and don’t advertise with speeds 3 times higher then lol? Then a technician once told me it’s not uncommon to have more than 1000 customers on one node in the area?? I was shocked, a cable technician back at home in Europe told me they try to have max. 300-400 customers on a single node, and I was always able to get at least 860-ish Mbps on a gigabit plan, even slightly more after getting a new modem with a few more channels. I now have DSL at home and it’s way cheaper, super stable and I get 100 down, 40 up with 5 ms ping, instead of Spectrums usual 60. Can’t get DSL in LA because AT&T’s infrastructure has been rotting away forever, it’s spectrum or nothing really. I live in the middle of nowhere in Europe (so no fiber yet) and aside from wireless options, I can still choose out of 5 major providers on either DSL or cable. I can’t believe a huge, vibrant city like LA is terrorized by Spectrum’s monopoly and on top of that they reward u by giving u the worst service starting at 80 bucks a month lmao. And a year a later they double the price for no reason lol, and that’s legal. I swear how are these people even satisfied with themselves? AT&T needs to come through with that fiber.... Spectrum treats their customers AND apparently their technicians like shit, ew... can’t imagine how they treat the rest of their employees.

My ex wife is a QC inspector for one of the major companies that installs all the aerial and underground in GA and Alabama. Basically she drives all over the place everyday checking behind all the crews making sure they did the job correctly and that they did the work they charged for. She goes out of her way covering the crews ass most of the time. She will fix problems that she can to save the crew from making a long trip to repair something they've already gotten paid for. Its nothing for her to put on her climbing spikes and go up a pole to fix something that wasn't done right. She cleans up the wreck out that their lazy ass leaves behind including loading up by herself partial spools of wire (yes the big wooden ones). She'll use her chainsaw and cut up the poles they change out load them on her truck and unload them at their shop. She catches a lot of them charging for work they didn't do or its left incomplete. Can't believe some crews will charge for hundreds of feet of cable they never installed. Her bosses stay on her ass for fixing the crews problems they leave. She doesn't get paid for doing it because she is on salary. One thing I will say is that she can out work or keep up with most any of the guys. She started out as a grunt (ground hand) and she loved the physical work. I swear the woman is not right lol. I've did construction work all my life but dude I'll tell you now you can have that shit. It's not the heat or the cold I can deal with that, it's all of the other bull crap you guys go through. When you make money you make good money but people don't understand you might get called out to do something that doesn't hardly pay anything or you may have to wait for several hours for the power company to get to finished and move out of the way. People don't realize just because you're on the job doesn't mean your getting paid for sitting.. If you're near the mid west GA area and need a job hit me up they're always needing people. You wouldn't be working for spectrum, charter, Xfinity or no one like that. This company is the ones that install and maintain all the lines for the little cable companies like I listed. They don't do residential service.

Honestly, like every one of my jobs would be a failed QC. I dont feel bad about it though. The only way to make good money is to constantly cut corners where you can. If techs were to do every job by the book, they would make less than minimum wage. I almost never put ground blocks, house boxes, change all fittings, etc. You would not imagine how absurd the expectations are of a technician ( For example at my company lets say I get a trouble call to replace a customers remote. Just to replace that trouble call, I am supposed to: Climb the pole then check the signal at the top of the pole and replace all fittings and put a house number tag, then go to the house and measure the signal and replace all fittings and put a new house box, put a new ground block, put a sticker to the ground block, then walk around with a howler and check for any leakages, then measure the signal each device and put a new fitting on the cable on each device, and replace all splitters. Note, that I am supposed to do all this, when all the customer wants is a new remote) And despite me not trying for QC, I still manage to have one of the lowest rework and repeat rates (both generally below 6%) One big problem I see is there is absolutely no incentive to be a good technician. When I first started out, I wanted to be the best. I wanted to make my supervisors happy. To give them good metrics, etc. But the problem is, the only one benefitting from your good work is your company and the sups. You get paid the same regardless. Therefore, you should always just do enough quality to not get fired, and simply focus on quantity so you get paid more, and hope you dont get qc'd (as far as I know, only 2 of my 4000+ jobs were qc'd) in any case, thanks to your ex wife. It really strikes me that a person would go out so far out of her way to help a person she doesnt know, when she also actually gets paid to catch these people. I've always imagined people who QC really hate techs

I agree spectrum is trash to work for now....I was making almost 2000$ a week as a 1099 contractor it was awesome until covid happen and then spectrum took advantage of us...every work order was setup as a self rescue meaning instead of a triple play you're doing a full install at the price of a service call all day long. They said they would eventually get that situated it's been a year already and there still pulling that crap I left and will never go back.

comcast has something very similar. Its called "self install" or "technical assist". Pays pennies, but customer expects you to do everything. Its basically where you're supposed to only "assist" the customer, but not do everything. But obviously, we all end up doing everything anyways. These jobs started with covid Then there is also "tech recovery" or "failed self installation kit". This one basically means the customer tried to do a self install, but failed. This has been around with comcast for several years at least The problem with both of the above is when the client has many devices. You get paid the same regardless if its 1 device, or 10. There are ways to go around this and change the job type, but its all just a pain and sometimes not worth going throught the hassle of changing
