Isn't it interesting? - Flash naturally has it in him to be a better friend to Peter than both Harry and Eddie. Eddie has lost perspective due to getting too lost in his anger, and doesn't care about the possible pitfalls of this either, being too lost in his feelings of embittered entitlement and validation. Harry seems to have been thrown with Peter as friends even simply by circumstance, desiring popularity and status more intensely than anything else.

Spectacular + TASM Flash are my favs.

According to Greg Weisman, the episode titles follow an education of Peter Parker theme, which I think is really neat. Biology 101: Survival of the Fittest, Interactions, Natural Selection. Economics 101: Market Forces, Competition, The Invisible Hand. Chemistry 101: Catalysts, Reaction, The Uncertainty Principle. Psychology 101: Persona, Group Therapy, Intervention, Nature vs. Nurture.

Notice the only person The Symbiote was willing to kill was Doc Ock. Thats because hes the only one that directly threatened it.

Venom’s voice in this show is how you do his voice, it’s two voices overlaying each other & it sounds so unsettling.

What really makes it work so well is one of the voices is just slightly off from the other, so instead of a smooth sound there is a bit of rhythmic displacement, making it sound and feel so uncomfortable.

Spectacular Spider-Man is among the top S-tier caliber comic book adaptations ever made. It’s practically the standard bearer.

Love how this show does Shocker. He’s not just a warm up villain here. He’s ruthless and determined

Having Shocker be a member/leader of the enforcers first, meaning he's not just an untrained thug figuring it out, but a very capable fighter and strategist in his own right, is a brilliant choice. He's almost a second-in-command in this version of the Sinister Six, giving orders and directions in battle because he's used to working in a group where none of the other villains (aside from Rhino and Sandman, but they've only worked as a duo) are used to that dynamic. He's a really underappreciated character to begin with, but I love how this show gives him some moments to shine.

22:45 Something a lot of people overlooked, what was Flash doing at the hospital in the first place? He had clearly gotten there before Peter. It was because he was visiting Aunt May as well. The reason why is answered in season 2

Great catch! Even as someone who's seen the show multiple times, I never really put it together in that way! I always thought he might have been waiting around there to confront Peter, figuring Pete was bound to show up eventually. But that actually makes a ton of sense, especially when you factor season 2 in.

I actually love that they didn’t catch on that Peter said “We really to to get that lady a cellphone.” instead of saying I.

The fight with Spider-Man & the Sinister Six in this show is one of the best I’ve seen.

For real, the people who worked into doing that fight scene absolutely nailed it cause of how brutal it was, both times. First for him getting it handed to him and then handing it back tenfold onto them

This show, Young Justice, and Gargoyles are three of my favorite animated shows ever. Greg Weisman is a legend.

That girl that Spidey thought was Gwen in the parade's ENTIRE LIFE changed forever in that moment. Spider-Man came to her?! Oh but wait, he was looking for someone else who looks like her. That's... conflicting. And all of her bandmates around her saw and heard that exchange, and would probably never let her live it down. But the bandmates further back who couldn't hear what he said? They probably have a much different interpretation of what just happened. She knows Spider-Man? Why'd he come to her? What did he want? To say nothing of anyone else watching the parade from the outside. Who is that girl? Find out who she is and what her connection to Spider-Man is. What about all the other villains and criminals who have already proven that they're willing to use personal connections to get to the Spider? Poor girl just became a target because of a misunderstanding.

Crazy how good Ed Asner is as both J. Jonah Jameson (in the 90s) AND Uncle Ben in this. Such different characters, but he plays them both so perfectly.

“A guy who can’t even see when his friends are trying to help” god that moment’s SO GOOD!! Out of all the people who could’ve knocked some sense into Peter it was Flash. It reminds me of the only good scene in The Amazing Spider-Man, when Flash says he’s sorry to Peter after Uncle Ben dies. I like how they make Tombstone an unintentionally hilarious character. The delivery on “I really should start closing that window” is fantastic 🤣🤣 Idk if it was in the comics but this is my favorite Venom name origin. “We’re poison to Peter Parker and Spider-Man. WE’RE VENOM!!!” SO GOOD!!

It wasn't. In the comics, it was because Brock had to write for tabloids spewing poison as he said. The 90s show and this rolled with hatred for Spider-Man being the explanation and I agree it was better.

@@jbearclowater at least it closed the green goblin arc REALLY well, it cemented GG as Spidey's big nemesis, so it wasn't that bad of a cliffhanger, unlike Spder-man 94 that cuts really abruptly. Seeing it like this helps to make peace with the fact it's only two seasons.

Big detail I love with the Sinister Six fight, the Symbiote divided and concurred the six using different angles and effectively turning them against each other, but it was only with Doc Ock that the Symbiote was going to Kill him by impaling him with his own claw only after he threaten to separate or "peel away" the suit from it's host. As well as the subtle "We" Peter throws out there, and the suit changing in-between episodes, the web design fading out as the Spider logo gets bigger

Season 2 is gonna be good. This show definitely deserved a season 3

Little detail you didn't show, but Shocker's gauntlets DO affect the symbiote. When Spidey takes the gauntlet off you can see the symbiote reacting to the vibrations.

What I love about this six is they actually look out for one another instead of butting heads. Or it's just ock acting like a mum to the rest

I love that too. Shocker was a good choice as a member of the Six, since in-universe, he's used to working as a member of a team, in the Enforcers. I like that he was kind of a field commander for the Six in battle, giving instructions so that they could take out Spidey without accidentally taking out one of their own.

These three episodes are amazing. I love how Symbiote Spider-Man takes down the Sinister Six.

One important thing to note as the series goes forward is that Greg Weisman stated that the intention for this version of Eddie was that after losing his parents he becomes a little intrigued by death. Explaining why he throws himself onto Electro, goes after The Lizard, and drives so recklessly with MJ. It's not very apparent when you watch the show, but it explains why Eddie becomes so insane all of a sudden it was always present, but not always as prominent. However I feel like the size of the shift could've been more subtle, it's probably the weakest part of his character arc.

The symbiote also revealed he had a hidden resentment of Peter having family to take him in after they lost their parents. I think it was enough to show Eddie had a lot of issues. Weisman's commentary on him as well. Chances are it might have been explored more in later seasons.

Still such a tragedy what happened to this show after the Disney buyout. They apparently had plans to redeem Eddie just like in the books & even maybe a spin-off show within conversation that just never got to go down.

It's not that he doesn't notice it, but it's so extremely obvious that mentioning that he noticed it every 2 seconds would get boring. "Oh, Sam Raimi reference, oh another, oh again, oh there it is again, one more time, once again, twice again, there's another one, hey look another".

You guys got me to break out my complete series bluray and start watching this again. I dont have friends that share the same interests as me so as always it’s nice to feel like im watching with friends. Love you guys

These are a few of my fav episodes of this show. The Symbiote taking out the Sinister Six is just so awesome, I love that they show Spidey’s origin in a flashback while Venom’s origin is happening in real time, and the Venom in this finale is honestly the only version I can say I really like (although I haven’t seen the version from the 90’s show in a long time). Venom having an oddball sense of humor is a concept that I understand, considering that he started as a dark mirror of humorous Spider-Man, but that sense of humor doesn’t click with me. But in this particular episode he’s mainly an intimidating force to be reckoned with and it really works for me.

Episode 11 was so good and the twist at the end got me

17:50 you'll see this a lot in animation where a character seemingly has a delayed reaction to something that was said because they usually wait until the very end of a line before they change expressions. You'd rarely see them react mid-line.

These last few episodes of season 1 of this show was so great and cool! The Symbiote/Venom Arc is my favorite!👍

I will always like the idea of the symbiote being a symbol for addition. I know it started with the 90’s show but it’s does show how Peter is corrupted and succumbed to power. But also shows his bad side those inner demons we all have. Also love how insomniac incorporated the symboite slowly evolving (suit&mentally) & taking Peter’s body for a joyride.

Peter tricking the symbiote into rebonding with him is genius.

The Sinister Six fight is a work. Of. Art.

I like the shocker episode and symbiote arc too, the whole show is just spectacular and there's more to come

My favorite episodes have to be the first Goblin episode and the finale. This show has my definitive Green Goblin and Venom

Season 2 just keeps ramping till a grand finish. The only negative I have about this show is it was taken from us too soon

My Wednesday mornings has just become constantly refreshing my subscription page until your new reaction is up.

I’m watching this show along with you guys and I’m absolutely surprised by how much this show has improved in quality at this pace! It reminds me of Young Justice, how this went from a kids show to and all ages show with writing, voice acting and animation that can rival any top tier animated series.

Since I haven't watched this in a couple years, I didn't realize Uncle Ben was Ed Asner or sounds like him. I definitely hear Carl from Up!

A subtle thing I like about episode 11 is that I believe the reason the symbiote was about to kill Doc Ock was because he mentioned 'peeling him' off of Peter, his host. I think the symbiote valued Peter so much as a host that it didn't want to risk him taking it away from Pete's body. There's just SO MANY details that you can miss in this show, which is why I love rewatching this series every year!

It's amazing how this show did a better job with Venom than Spiderman 3 and the Venom movies.

I find it ironic that Ed Asner voiced uncle ben in this series because he also voiced J Jonah Jameson in the 90's The animated series, I also find it cool that the scene were spider-man tricks the symbiote to bond back to him was something he did in TASM issue 317.

This first season was so damn good. Glad you guys loved. Now, onto the next!

This has to be one of my favorite adaptations of spider-man. I loved this version of venom and even doc ock. I think my favorite episode would be 12, and also, my favorite scene is when spider-man meets Tombstonee, and he had no security or anything. That was dope. Please do season 2

It's cool to see how the symbiote spider symbol grew!

If you're familiar with the Disney Afternoon series "Gargoyles", Greg Weisman is very good at elaborate multi-level interwoven storylines with lots of foreshadowing and callbacks.

I never noticed how the symbiote started detaching off of Spider-Man during the sinister 6 fight when he takes the shockers glove off and throws it at Sandman

John's comment about Eddie's switch is the main criticism that I remember at the time the show was broadcast. I agree with Coy that a scene or two more would have made that flow better. Group Therapy is probably my favourite from this season especially due to the sinister six fight but the invisible hand also stands out when the big man is revealed and the series kicks into high gear.

Man I got chills when Uncle Ben showed up in his subconscious. And I've seen this before

I remember as a kid they would replay episode 13 every Thanksgiving on 4Kids! I loved Venom in this show as a kid, but now as an adult I love this adaptation of Eddie Brock *even more*. He's a perfect fusion of all the great Eddies and leaves out the bad stuff. I also love how natural his contempt for Peter is nurtured and eventually it grows into hatred for Peter. Also every time I watch episode 12 where he goes through his memories and gets rid of the suit it makes me super emotional. I also love Flash's conversation with Pete that makes him realize that he's changed for the worse. Flash is a character who really grows on you throughout the series. All I can say is I can't wait for yall to watch season 2!!!

This is a really good take on Venom, however for me by far the best to adaptation of the character of all time is from the Midnight Suns video game.

I love coy and Jon together. It’s right up there with Roxy and Tara being my favorite pairing on the channel. Yalls energy and comedy together is so rad.

“Intervention” is hands down my favourite episode of the entire series

Intervention has always been my favourite episode along with a later episode. As a child of the 2000s it was the first time I experienced the origin as a kid and made me feel the weight of Uncle Ben in only about 20 minutes. That moment when Peter puts the mask on and starts fighting back along with the faces moment always gets me. It's such a hell yeah moment! I'm so thankful my introduction to Spider-Man was this show and it will always hold a special place in my heart and has yet to be dethroned as my favourite version of Spidey. I really hope you guys eventually do Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It along with this show was what got me into superheroes! It's honestly on the same quality as Spectacular in my opinion. Can't wait for S2!!!

🌪️ if you guys go online or do a search for the cast for a spectacular Spider-Man during these seasons, quite a few top named actors, were doing the voices of the show so it wasn’t just regular voice actors. It was like prominent actors were doing some of these characters, Miguel Ferrer, Robert Englund, and yes, you were right Ed Asner as uncle Beck😉

If anyone here really enjoys the show and wants more details, i highly recommend listening to the spectacular radio podcast. They talk to Greg Wiseman and many of the cast members. I would wait until you watch the entire series 1st tho.

A Sinister Six movie in the style of "Ocean's Eleven", but with Spider-Man as a villain is a great idea. Now that I think about it, semi-related but Spoilers for the show, "Justice League Unlimited,"........ *spoilers* but they did do an episode just like that with the Suicide Squad (going by their "Task Force X" moniker, as the BS&P wouldn't let Timm & Co use the word "suicide"), having to pull a heist, and treating members of the Justice League as essentially their obstacles/marks. Definitely the best of that particular show.

Ben Deskin and Josh Keaton give a great performances as Venom/Eddie and Spider-Man/Peter the back n forth and differences between the two are still great to the hear

To me, this show was Spider-man's Batman the Animated Series. It was pure to the character and his supporting cast like BTAS was for Batman. Just the best Spider-anything. I would love if Marvel did an X-men 97 for this show.

Episode 12 is near perfect, and there is so much to say about it. I love that THIS is when they choose to actually tell the origin of Spider-Man, with Uncle Ben (voiced wonderfully by Ed Asner) as his conscience fighting against the symbiote's influence. The short shot of the Spider-man 100 cover is brilliant. I love that FLASH is the one to give him a reality check. Eddie finally succumbing to the symbiote really feels earned and kinda tragic, with everything starting to fall apart for him. Overall, a nearly perfect episode, in my opinion.

I’m glad you guys enjoyed this show! It was my childhood as well as the 90s show. The venom arc is phenomenal and the intervention episode is one of my favorites of the show. This show is also what made me love Tombstone and think he was cool; I looked into the comics version and I was disappointed lol.

Nice little detail in the Symbiote vs Sinister Six fight. The symbiote was perfectly contempt taking the six down by just incapacitating them. However when Octavius said he'd peel the symbiote off Peter and experiment on it, the symbiote tried going for the kill.

@@parkerboy795 I'm not sure how it works, because Sony owns the rights to this series and Spider-Man in general, but Marvel entertainment is also making Spider-Man shows right now, including a new one that's supposed to come out this year, I think.

This final arc of season 1 is one of my favorites, with “Intervention” (ep.12) being the best. I know so many people in the fandom share this as well and it’s great to see. Still loving the reactions 🎉🎉

I watched this Spider-Man and the Older Show so much as a kid. One of the best Spider-Mans out there!

These three episodes are the best Spider-Man story that has ever graced the small or big screen.

So serious question in case you guys somehow end up reading it. Season 2 sets up a LOT of things for Season 3 and beyond that obviously didn't end up happening but Greg Wiseman outlined a few things. Do you want to know which setups were going to pay off when we get there or after the series finale? Because there's one in particular I thought was masterfully done that ties into a bit of a mistake Coy made in an earlier episode.
