It looks as if all the drums are bearing the cypher of King Charles 111. We forget just how much is affected. Fantastic precision from everyone.

Royal Marines, they don't like being called soldiers. The ones in red playing the flutes were in their old historic uniforms.

Tks...I did not know that....thought they were all called flutes...they did sound different I must say.

They are playing piccolo, which are one octave higher than a flute. At most, a fife has five keys and none of the holes are keyed. The instruments being played, as seen in closeups on other vids, show all holes are keyed. Over the past 200 years. Musical arrangements have become more complex and would be near impossible to play on a fife. Also I studied flutes at university.

The British millitary do not play flutes. The instrument you see & hear here is a FIFE.

The instrument we hear from the roof top is the piccolo, aka flute soprano. In the official video from “2022 Beating Retreat”, close up shots confirms piccolos are the instruments being played. The fife is a lovely instrument, but over the past 200 years, musical arrangements have evolved, making it impossible to play on a fife. FWIW, I studied the flute at university.

Why do people bother going to such wonderful scenes as this when they are so ignorant they talk all the way through it? Very distracting to those around them I’m sure.
