Spectacle Reef Light Station 🚨 Second Most Remote Lighthouse in the US (Overnight Work Crew)

I join a work crew to restore the second most remote lighthouse in the United States. . . Spectacle Reef Lighthouse.
➡️ Spectacle Reef Light is in northern Lake Huron about 29 miles east of the Mackinac Bridge, Michigan.
It has been unmanned for almost 5 decades and it shows. The lighthouse was recently acquired by the Spectacle Reef Historical Society.
Spectacle Reef Preservation Society was formed in 2020 with the purpose to preserve, interpret, and operate the light station as an education center for the public.
➡️ The Society plans to host residential keeper programs, tours, weekend and day events, as well as many educational events at the light and the surrounding areas on shore. Restoration is ongoing, and the Society is always looking for new volunteers who wish to save, teach and learn about the history of the light and other lights, the Straits of Mackinac and greater Great Lakes region.
Join me and the Spectacle Reef Historical Society as we depart from the port of Cheboygan, Michigan and work to restore decades of neglect.
➡️ A few of the crew spend the night at the lighthouse and let the boats in the area that there is new life.
It is quite an experience and one I won't soon forget.
We will also talk about the future vision of the lighthouse, its history and educational potential.

Thanks for going out there! My Dad served in the Coast Guard from 1974-78 and spent 3 shipping seasons stationed on St. Martin's Island over in Lake Michigan and I'm familiar with most of the lighthouses up here. This light is a sister to Stannnard Rock in Lake Superior. The limestone blocks were layed in pure Portland cement and joined with large iron bolts, which is very rare in the normal building world. It boggles the mind how well both towers have held up over 50 and 60 years of neglect. If you ever get a chance to go out there, I bet a St. Martin's / Poverty Island trip would be interesting.

Thanks Josiah! Like you say, Stannard and Spectacle lighthouses are crazy strong and form, basically, a single rock. I actually recorded footage of a trip to Poverty last fall, but dropped the camera somewhere on the overgrown trails. . . it was disappointing, but hoping to go back soon!

Thank you for your work and effort. I'm in Sweden. We have lots of light houses that get demolished by municipalitys each decade because there's no interest in them, and the very few who care for them, are just too few to do something about it other than watch the light houses go.
