The manufacture of spectacles at a factory in London.
L/S's and M/S's of optician placing eye testing machine in front of woman's face. He adjusts the lenses.
Various shots from the spectacle factory. Workmen examining and cutting glass, shaping and weighing and placing pieces in oven. C/U's of glass being polished on wheel, man takes large disc from water he hits it with hammer and lifts it up to reveal lenses.
M/S of woman making bifocal lenses. M/S's of various shots of machines polishing lenses. Numerous shots of the frames being made by hand. M/S of man rubbing frames in hot sand and then pushing the lenses into place.
Back to opticians - C/U customer is handed the glasses, she puts them on and looks in mirror with obvious pleasure.

There was a great respect for a person in those days no matter the craft they'd most likely be doing mostly handwork as opposed to waiting for the machine.

I wish Saville Row eyeglasses were still in Business. I bought a pair off ebay but the temples cables ends bend into my ears and aren't long enough.

Extend them using some rubber tubing, then heat the arms with a hair dryer enough to soften and bend out so they are not so tight.

Saw this documentary displayed in my town and wanted to see it (lol) without looking weird.
Many years ago I saw a very apt notice in an independent Optometrists... 😁 _„Customers are _*_not_*_ allowed to make spectacles of themselves.“_ 👓 I wonder if Mr. Musk might consider implementing that rule on his micro-blogging platform?... 🙃
