Species Spotlight | Sterba's Corydoras

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Aquatics expert Tom Sarac provides an in-depth overview of one of the best catfish for aquariums - Corydoras sterbai! Endemic to the Guaporé River region between Bolivia and Brazil in South America, Sterba's Corydoras is hardy, long-lived and easy to care for. Featuring a beautiful spotted pattern with vibrant orange markings, this species is best kept in large groups in aquariums with shaded areas and smooth sand substrates!

I love my sterba cories. Been breeding them for about 6 months now. So fun, easy to keep.

How old were they when they started breeding for you?

@@joedirt5711 I was given a mature female, and picked up a couple more from the store. After about 3 months the males were breeding age, though the fertilization rate has increased a lot in the last 6 months. I would say egg to sexually mature for males is roughly 6 months. Females a little longer.

@@Northerntide19 thanks for the info. Are they fairy tricky to spawn compared to bronze and pepper Cory's? I picked up a group of 8 the other day and they are all over an inch long by the looks of it. I'm gonna wait a few months or so and see if I have any luck.

Great video as always , and thank you for recommending the sand substrate as IME this fish from the 1st day you will get the message that any course gravel ( eco complete ) is just a bad idea to have a good chance to get your Cory's barbells damaged , with the infection potentially going to be the end of this awesome little water Hummingbird 💙💚
