🔍 Species Spotlight 😍 Nepenthes veitchii (Easy Nepenthes for Windowsill)
Nepenthes veitchii is probably one of the most impressive tropical pitcher plant because it produces one of the biggest flared peristome. But do you know it's also a beginner species?
Even if beginners should start by "strong hybrids" to build their skills and confidence, after the classic N. Ventrata, Gaya or Briggsiana, the next step would be going with an easy "pure species" (because if it flower, you will be able to trade pollen and get seeds!).
And among the friendly beginner species, N. veitchii is definitely in the top 3.

Very nice video, on a very nice species... one of my new favorites, not the most beatifull one, but close to it, and with the bonus of being easy to care for outside of a GH or GT ! This "true epiphytic / hemiepiphytic / terrestrial "thing has more to do with the localities... as far as i know lowland varieties(not shown on any of the wikipedia or carnivero pictures, the ones with longer leaves and pitchers, that always vine a lot haha) are mainly epiphytic, while the inter/HL localities such as murud or bario(wikipedia image) are mainly terrestrial. And the maliau basin plants (carnivero picture) are hemiepiphytic. growing on the grownd, but clymbing the threes on a very particular way. And as a note, as far as i know, several people tried to replicate the growing pattern of the maliau basin plants with either bario or LL clones, with no sucess, barios basically dont climb anything, and the lowland plants do climb, but on a "typical"nepenthes style, using the tendrils, and not on that really odd maliau basin`s veitchiis pattern.

My pleasure 😁 next one will be n. X Briggsiana ;)
I just ordered my first veitchii. Bought it during the Black Friday sale from Carnivero. Can’t wait for it to come in 😬

Cool! Black Friday is too late in Canada, it's too cold to ship plants safely... Or you have to add heat pad, isolated box, etc. then it's not that much of a money saving 😔

Wow! I did'nt know that Veitchii is close to Robcantleyi! Good Video. When you talk about hairy, i have the cross Glandulifera x Veitchii and it is so hairy when the Pitchers start to form.

Oh yes, glandu, chaniana and other species are hairy too. That makes the ID of their crosses harder tho. ;)

@@WindowsillNepenthes yep and the cross with Glandulifera is so beautiful. It is at this size now that the Pitchers start to have Stripes. I can recommend this cross. The Veitchii is more dominant.
I really love your veitchii. But there are so many clones. Could you tell me how yours is called please? The brown peristom with the green pitchers look amazing!

I’m now just getting into isopods.

So now I want to tell you something: IT'S YOUR FAULT!!!😉 that I now have the Veitchii virus and can't get rid of it. Thank you for your videos, even if they are addictive. You have to live with that now ;) But the Veitchiis are so beautiful🥰. thank you for your work. Warm greetings from Germany.😘

Hi my name is belcoth and I love Nepenthes too 😊 I’ve always wonder how this plant is able to climb like those that you’ve shown in the video. Now I know. ❤ Can you share more on how you made the bark wall that you have there?

If it's in a high humidity setup like a grow tent or greenhouse that should be good. On a windowsill it could dry too fast. ;)

It's possible but not recommended. Be really careful not to water too much because of root rot.
