Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hi welcome back
So this small log was a gift , its called Smrič or in English Cade Juniper among other names...
Story goes that if you want to get the benefiths from this wood it has to be cut down on full moon cicle in January.... Not sure if that is full true but that's how the story goes 🤗
Enjoy as I have turning this lovely wood.

That little trick of adjusting the bowl to even-up the height of the rim is simple but brilliant. You are always teaching us to not only to think outside the box but pointing out the box in which we have been stuck. Thank you!

Thank you sir for lovely comment 😀
Yew wood. That what it looks like.
The grain looks very good. I like the contrast of the light rim and the darker colour of the grain in the body of the bowl.

So glad to hear that sir😀thank you very much
15:32 "...try not to destroy everything..." That was worth a chuckle. 🙂 I've recently begun to cut my own wood. I've been cutting and turning pecan and oak, but I have juniper out the wazoo. In these parts, juniper is called cedar. "Cedar" here is an abomination/pest tree. After watching this, I'm definitely going to turn some abomination wood! Great job! That offset correction was genius!

A most enjoyable video and a beautiful result! I will echo the previous thoughts on re-centering the piece to level out the rim a bit, as that has been an issue with some of the natural-edge projects I've attempted lately. Your running narrative is informative and inspirational - a pleasure to watch! 👍

What a beautiful piece of wood. I liked the way you offset the bowl you were turning. I’ve never seen that done before. Another fantastic video.

Your juniper looks a lot like the red cedar we have here in the eastern USA. I turn it regularly and really like it. Makes the shop smell nice also.

Very neat little bowl. That wood has very interesting grain and patterns and really makes an interesting looking piece. Being that this is a juniper, are pitch pockets an issue with this particular wood?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
7 ай бұрын
Thank You, about the pockets, that is reason why I think its harvest on those perticular days, so there is minimum of sap pockets.... I haven't found one on this log....☺️
Very Nice.

That's a lovely grain on there and a lovely shape too. I only know this wood as the source of a rather strong smelling aromatic oil, I admit. But it seems to turn, and turn out, wonderfully. Seems to have a heftier trunk than most 'common' junipers. If it was cut for oil or resin, summer would be more likely, but if it is like other junipers, winter would likely be best for any other reason, or it would be too resinous? Thanks for another fine video.

I think you are write, I do remember that guy who gave me this said that if its cut in january that is not so resines....
C'est vraiment un très beau bois !!! On néglige souvent les conifères, mais les résultats sont souvent très contrastés !

Would you ever consider a larger bowl blank requiring end grain with the pith in tack?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
7 ай бұрын
No, I never turn stuff with pith.... Most cracks originate from pith and you spend 2 hours making stuff so at the end it will be firewood.... And sometimes cracks are hidden and its so easy to explode on the lathe
nice! does it stand stable on that small base?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
7 ай бұрын
It does, but I made it on purpose that small.... Its sit nicely in hand for nuts
Another great project! Do you use different tools or sharpening angles for softer wood?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
7 ай бұрын
Thank you, I don't change angles unless using skew on pine .... For other tools my bevel angle between 40 and 45 works great....
