Summary of main points on combining Fundamental and Technical analysis to invest longterm in stock market: 1. Building block of return on stock - Investing return as two components : Business performance and Market sentiment - Fundamental helps measure business performance, its return = Earning@Exit / Earning@Entry - Technical price volume helps measure market sentiment, its return = PE@Exit / PE@Entry (PE is price to earning ratio of a company) 2. Where is the Edge ? - Majority of traders(short term and don't see fundamentals) are not successful - Majority of investors(long term who don't use technicals) are not able to beat index - Combining both Fundamental and Technical analysis gives edge 3. Time horizons and trends types - Short term : eg. Seasonal, agriculture, pandemic - Medium term : eg. GST impact - Long term : eg. GDP expectations 4. Complementing with Fundamental analysis - Mean reverting : cyclical sectors, metal, agro, sugar, tea, etc - Trending upwards : compounders aka multi-baggers - Trending downwards : junk stocks, eg. Suzlon, JP, Unitech, etc 5. Staying away from leverage - For self : - stay away from FnO - review asset allocation - deploy as much as you afford - avoid asset liability mismatch - For companies : - prefer debt free companies - review capital allocation by company - capacity to bounce back in hard times - robust business model 6. At the end of day peaceful sleep matters the most 7. Does finding bottom matter ? - Two styles of investing. Better to invest in growing companies. - Style 1: - Low PE companies : Cheap but low RoE(returns) and are generally dying industries - Style 2: - PE has premium, so not cheap but if its a growing industry then good for long term investors - 1 to 2 years premium may be recovered by returns 8. "Achhe din strategy" aka Riding the tornado - Way to identify companies in transition fundamentally and potentially show good return - Fundamental perspective : - Technology adoption life cycle from Moore, Crossing the chasm - Initial idea - Chasm : Market not yet ready, few survive - Some make progress - Things are put in place aka Scale up aka work is professionally distributed eg., different departments for Marketing, Hiring, Supply Chain, R&D etc. This sucks money and profits dont show up initially. - Fundamental trigger : Huge growth and profits - Company peaks : all buy - Processes fail and company and profits degrade - Company becomes a laggard - Again a new idea and cycle repeats or company dies :D - Technical perspective of the phenomenon above: - Stage1 : Stock is range bound (akin to initial idea and chasm), consolidating at low volume for long time probably - Stage2 : Stock price rise - Break out (akin to Fundamental trigger), with volume spurt - Stage3 : Consolidation (akin to fundamentally company becoming weak and profits falling) - Stage4 : Stock price falls (akin to fundamentally company becoming weak , profits falling) - Ride the tornado in Stage2 - Which lags Fundamental analysis or Technical analysis ? - Follow PV ( Price & Volume ) as it shows footprints of smart people - Do PV analysis, then check Technical indicators(company and sector), then do Fundamental analysis(concall) before going fully in 9. How to Exit ? - Use weekly chart for stocks in initial experimental stage (When you take tracking position) - Use monthly chart for stocks already analysed after experimental stage - Use Parabolic SAR for stop loss, power of long term chart ! - Average up - Only risk management is in our control

@@VivekBajaj Key Learnings-- 1) INGESTING RETURNS= Business performance× Market Sentiments=Fundamental Analysis*Technical Analysis 2) you need to have an edge to generate alpha and for that you need to do beyond regular things which all participants do. hence a combination of fundamental and technical analysis both is required. 3) Have patience for long period and holding till you reap compounding benefits. As a long term investor also know the time to cut and sell long term assets by reviewing future trends. 4) leverage is a double edged Sword and hence stay away from it, see what suits your personality. similarly it applies for companies, hence look for such companies which are debt free. 5) reviewing of asset and capital allocation is also very important rather than just constant trading and buying. 6) cheap that is at low PE multiple does not guarantee high RoE, sometimes companies which commands premium but has good future potential will grow more RoE in long term. 7) business goes through cycles of ups and downs, hence finding entry Point by technical and volume analysis during the transition phase gives multibaggers. also constant reviewing is important as it will go down at some stage and we need to understand it before it happens and exit before the business enters into the new cycle. hence points of entry and exit are critical. 8) Steps::Price-Action + Volume data-->Indicators for confirmation-->Study of Fundamentals for further Screening. 9) Identify compounding business by viewing Growth potential++Profits++Reinvestment opportunity. Adapt to change in niche companies identified caused by any disruption in early stages. 10) Long term growth factors to look upon-- a Sales Growth- consistent growth b Operating Leverage- how existing capacity is used for further expansion c Margin Expansion--measures like cost cutting etc to expand Margin d Debt Reduction-- use of self generated profits to run business & become debt free.

Vivek jiii i was doing back check on the parabolic SAR indicator .....During Diwali I bought HDFCAMC @ 2400 and am very happy with the investment, however it totally fails on the Parabolic SAR indicator, it also qualifies as a company which outperformed earlier and ache din bas ek jumla ban ke reh gaya. This Bull Run seems to outdo all indicators, even great man like you did not talk about nifty 13800 in 2020

Firstly...each strategy is designed to catch different things. You cannot capture each type of move with 1 strategy. And second - nobody can predict where Nifty will be tomorrow or after even few minutes. It's a game of probability and risk management than anything else.
