It was a business decision, not some dream on the whim of someone's encouragement. Solar and Moonbyul didnt know each other before mamamoo

Lets not focus on the people who voted down. Why emphasise it? We should just focus on positives! Her soothing soft wonderful voice full of emotion. That her true talent for both singing and rapping are emerging more and more. That she rocks!!!! ❤️😍

People need to realize that high notes alone doesn't make a good vocalist, and someone who doesn't hit high notes often isn't a weak vocalist. Compared to the other members, Byul's high notes are not as high, but none of them can replicate her vocal control when it comes to lower register. She has such a soulful and emotional voice, her vocals are stable and she has amazing breath control. Moonbyul isn't just a rapper who can sing well, she is a vocalist qualified to be a vocalist.

I believe her tessitura is set lower compared to the rest of MAMAMOO (she’s like a low soprano to me). Also, in terms of technique, I do hear shallow support in her mid-range though inconsistent, and she does have decent/good coordination for someone of her own ability. ***EDIT: actually she could be a mezzo, she seems to have G3 down just fine lol.

I’m not even biased towards her (even though I’m OT4 all the way), but I like her solo songs and her deep voice (since MMM is my most favorite group in terms of voices/vocal palette) too. :)

I love Moonbyul's range and she can go pretty high too which may be a surprise to most plus she has a very stable voice. The emotions she evokes when she sings is everything to me.

The difference between Byul and the rest of them, in a general sense at least, is that they spent years training as vocalists and she spent that time on rap. They all entered on roughly equal grounds and then split at that point. She doubtless received some vocal training along the way, hence her ability to keep up when required of her, but she spent considerably more of her time on rap. If Kim Do-hoon wanted four vocalists, he would have had them and Byul would have been there the whole time.

okay but she gave us her delicate voice in the beginning, her beautiful lower register, her self-written melodic rapping, then she started belting out those high notes??? her power??????? moonbyul's just on another level. mamamoo most talented group EVER

agree! not all can handle low notes esp those that do power belting. It's easy for them to hit high notes but struggle with low notes. Byul can do both.

Yes, and she's the *rapper* of the group. Most soloists would kill to have her voice. Mamamoo truly are vocal powerhouses.

You can cry listening to the song as you think about how many times Moonbyul wanted to show her voice, how much she has struggled to let go of her fear and insecurities about her vocals. She trained to be a vocalist and out of nowhere she was told that she would be the rapper of the group , she had to spend some time to find her place within the group , she spent performances standing for minutes while watching how the members performed , she fought against those who told her she didn't deserve to be in Mamamoo because she couldn't "sing" , she fought against herself in order to gain confidence in her voice again , she has fought a lot our Moonbyul and we can be proud of her. No one who doesn't know her story can appreciate what this means and will not cry over this cover and video.

Personally, I liked this cover version than the official cover because of the rawness and I felt it sounded more emotional and to the heart than the official cover.

Byul has such a soft and delicate singing voice. She has such a specific singing style just filled with angst.. For someone who isn't (supposedly) a 'singer' she really outsings so many when it comes to the emotions she puts in her songs and covers.

There's something about Moonbyul's voice that gets me so emotional like no other singer has done. When I listen to songs like ten nights and the osts with mamamoo where she sings, her parts always tugs at my heart and makes me feel the pain even though I can't understand the words. @@dreamcatcherthebestdiscogr1934 Byul's part in MMM songs used to consist of short rap breaks and that was it. She didn't sing in MMM songs, except for harmonies, for several years. Most songs she released had a lower vocal register. Nothing like this, with full-on, belt-it-out parts or higher parts. So hearing full songs from her with a wider vocal range is really wonderful.

I've been a Kpop fan since 2010 (I am an ELF for Suju) even though until today, I can't say that I know all about Kpop. But I can say that I found it rare to see a member performing differently from their destined position in the group. Like Moonbyul, her position in Mamamoo are a rapper and a performer, but here she performs as a vocalist. There some who also do that, but usually the artist already out from the group.

When i listened "Absence" for the first time i thought the music was for an OST, that proves her voice really suits for an kdrama music

Right? I was reminded again on twitter of moonbyulie confessing her troubles of being a rapper in such a powerhouse vocal group (that JYP Party People clip). But look at where we're at now. As a fan, I'm extremely proud that the artists I admire grow musically. The build up in her confidence is satisfying to see too.

OST stands for original soundtrack its like moonbyul covering a song then it will be used in kdrama scene for example trying to say goodbye that moonbyul sang it will be used in a clip or a kdrama scene so yea or jsut search on google.

Byul isn’t just a “good vocalist for a rapper” she is a good vocalist for a vocalist. The way so many kpop idols labelled as main vocals couldn’t do this. This isn’t shade to anyone at all in particular, she just deserves to own that vocalist title...
