Still blaming the victim. She was the person who was kidnapped, and the people who kidnapped her were calling her a freak as if she liked her horrific abuse. Striping her of her name is one of the first rule of taking her identity from her and the beginning of Manipulating Patty Hearst. She had no choice but to go along with her captors inorder to live.

Do not waste your time. Having read books, including Patty's, and lived thru this time, I was greatly disappointed. Had to delete it. All because Harris was allowed to talk on and on despite his obvious delusional state. He continually related events where his own analysis did not match the reality of the action he himself described. They were not going to keep Patty long, but they did. They kidnapped Patty to somehow get two SLA members--who had been in a shootout with police--released. But they never made this demand of the police. Patty was given a script to read Harris relates, yet he claims these were her words. He even claims that Patty was a "freak" revolutionary that magically transformed on her own from the nonpolitical 19 year old student into a gun toting SLA armed robber. Harris admits they forced her to memorize 7 Kwanza points to memorize and other SLA propaganda so they could "know who we were." Then claims that Patty was not brainwashed. She was held under constant gunpoint by SLA members who had already killed a man, kept blindfolded in a closet, raped, and this was not brainwashing. The show could have been good. Weed, the recordings of Patty, news recordings, and Patty's account was good. But I had to stop. I kept thinking how much I wanted to damage Harris up close and personal. There is rotten flesh in his skull. These "revolutionaries" were nothing more than violent children pretending to be somebody while "barking mad" (Weed). SLA fired hundreds of rounds from automatic rifles, yet the "violent revolutionaries" were unable to kill one person, even a bystander in a crowded neighborhood. All 6 members including Defreeze were exterminated. On the run with murder charges and kidnap victim Patty Hearst, Harris decided to shoplift. How stupid. Harris's delusions are not based upon stupidity, however. Harris displays some mental disorder wherein he has replaced fact with fiction in his mind. His own analysis does not match his own description of action. CNN blew it allowing him so much time, without medication, or even having his physician nearby to attempt to interpret for him.

Reagan,Hearst connections and the fear of her being brought to court again 24 years later. She was a get away driver and that mother of 4 was murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The only punishment was to the dead woman's loved ones. She should have been automatically charged with murder. Money and power talks.

The SLA had murdered a teacher, shot and killed an innocent bystander, and were making notches on their belts for every cop they injured, so do I think they would've killed Patty? Yes. DeFreeze was insane enough to have killed a "bourgeois rich white girl" to further his cause. After all, when the shoot-out went down, all he had to do was surrender, but he ordered everyone inside to stand down and fight to the death instead of being taken alive. He (and his cohorts) were insane to the end. Although, I find it ironic that the SLA worshipped Che--who was a homophobe, racist, and HATED black people.

Agreed w/ everything you said, up until the Che opinion 😂 Very controversial figure indeed, however, knowing how the US media was, and still is practically ran by the M.I.C. , I have come to realize many of “yesterday’s radical dictator/tyrant-leader,” were for the most part just guys on our side, who eventually didn’t like what they saw w/ Dulles’ & Hoover’s era of forcing capitalistic and facist ideologies down the throats of every overseas nation/civilation that wasn’t able to fight back, leading to guys like Che and Castro, etc. deciding they were being pawns and from that point forward, chose not to affiliate w/ the US on a good level. That of course always tends to end up w/ a nation or leader villainized, in order to justify actions that would make most people sick!! Once again, not calling thek heroes, or innocent by any means, but def couldn’t be any worse than the people who ordered them to be executed.

It must be hard on Patricia Hearst Shaw to know that some of the SLA who kidnapped and held her prisoner are free now. I was so shocked at the time it all happened that she was put on trial for anything in the first place, and then again when she was found guilty by a confused jury. I hope she had happy years with her new husband and children afterwards.

In Stockholm Syndrome the revulsion of the abuse and kidnapping and the deliberations of the victims death, scare the victim to play along. The passion the victim feels to get out is turned to cooperative energy to please the captors in hopes they can get out at some point and escape. The fear of escape becomes an irrational byproduct of this syndrome. P. Hearst was never a true radicalized member. She gave them what behaviors and reactions the captors pressured. All to survive. The SLA were awful people. Their extreme Marxists dogma was a front for their antisocial behavior and grotesque needs to control people. They didn’t help ANY movement terrorizing people and throwing them into trunks of cars and shooting and killing people in their faux psycho war. People have to learn to live within their income. Marxism doesn’t deliver anything to the people but hysterical schemes against anyone higher then themselves. Equal pay and profit sharing are great ideas but they are not where the Marxist types ends. They seem to want everyone who has wealth to give it all away. The SLA were trash and Hearst was victimized and suffered from StockholmSyndrome. She may have been a great 19 yr. old actress but this is how it is when one is cornered like this.

They really DID help with clothing and food for the underprivileged. They were also very adamant to gain money (by ANY means) to support their actions. There were/are no safety nets or welfare causes for radical groups because it's a 'lone shark' enterprise for the TRULY committed. Hindsight is a wonderfully comfortable way to see this (as well as shocking at the time). We live sheltered, cosseted lives (whether admitted or not) and anything threatening that is viewed as extremely detrimental. I really don't condone or endorse such foolhardy behaviour as the SLA did, but we must also understand the frustrations and context of the era (Weather Underground, Baader-Meinhof, RAF) that they were played out if we're to gain ANY insight/knowledge at all

I don't know. My thing, she's 19. She was rich, I was pretty poor. What would I have done at 19 under those circumstances, probably tried to make buddies. Even with the most reprehensible people. I was still a child, as was she. The class thing could mean something, but they picked on her at a puppy stage. She was very formative, and maybe, looking for something to belong to. I give her leeway, because a 19 year old girl is definitely a KID in my experience. And there's a thrill aspect that goes along with those formative years. Could be dead wrong, but my opinion.

She is the one who should still be in prison. There are people getting life without parole for less. Same with Patricia Hearst. What a joke she got pardon. Bill Harris was not present at most serious events and did his time in jail. He took is chance to tell his part of the story while Patty Hearst had done her part years ago over and over again. The trail of Harris and Patty Hearst is just as interesting as the whole events that happened before.

Patty Hearst was neither kidnapped nor brainwashed. She's a clever sociopath. She was the brains behind the operation who knew her so-called abductors long before the event. Anyone who was alive and old enough to know better realized this from the beginning. Btw, I finally watched this teleplay the other night. Hilarious.
