I know that this scene was played for laughs, but there's actually some great character work. Despite Kuzco starting to get along with Pacha, he's still so self-absorbed that he doesn't realize he's talking to his main (ex)advisor's personal assistant until Pacha tells him that Kronk and Yzma were in the diner looking for him. Even Kuzco and Yzma's mannerisms in the kitchen could be taken as a callback to Yzma's line of practically raising Kuzco from earlier in the film.

To be honest I can so relate to that scene as I'm trying to cook dinner, and then my dad is like "Oh, let me make some improvements." That is when I start doing just like that cook, and say. "Alright you want a special order, then you make it!"

I can only imagine how well this scene resonated with people working in restaurants.

Not really. I’ve been a line cook most of my life. Restaurants don’t bend over backward to do bizarre custom orders and substitutions like this. The most you’ll get is some guy asking to hold a bunch of ingredients out of a dish, or people with allergies. Simple stuff.

The visual comedy in this one scene alone shows how amazing this film is.

1:49 you know it adds truth to Yzma’s comment about practically raising him when he shows such similar mannerisms.

This movie was an underrated masterpiece.

Kronk is a blessing on this world that we have done nothing to deserve but suffered everything to need.

We didn't deserve Kronk. He's a national treasure.

this scene is a freaking masterpiece

This is customer service in a nutshell. And Kronk is a hero.

"A steak cut in the shape of a trout" I guess presentation really is this restaurant's forte.

Fun fact: When Yzma said, "Is there anything in this menu that is not swimming in gravy?" I thought she meant there were pools of gravy with little creatures swimming around in it. LOL!!!

What Dusk said; a couple years later, this film got a sequel aptly named “Kronk’s New Groove.” It ain’t as iconic as Emperor’s, but it’s definitely one of the best for giving us an inside scoop into Kronk’s future after Yzma was defeated.

I like to believe the waitress is the one phoning Mrs Packard from Atlantis somehow.

When I was a kid I thought the joke was that Kronk was dumb and recited utter nonsense back to waitress. Never realized he was talking diner food lingo.

Kronk is love, Kronk is life... Wish I could try his exquisite cuisine!

The fact that as a kid i had most if this script memorized including the waitress naming off the orders and kuzco and izma's oder requests but i can't seem to get kronk's list of orders when he responded to the waitress

This movie is such a classic

Oh my gosh, Kronk was using kitchen slang terminology he must have learned from cooking in the past, he got the mindset of a chef

I love how half of these comments are recent lmao, this movie really is timeless

This is my absolute favorite Disney cartoon! Absolutely the funniest one with a perfect cast!.

There are just so many golden comedic moments in this scene, both obvious and subtle, that there's no way you can catch them all on the first watch or even the 10th watch...
