I’ve only started looking into ATEEZ very very recently but this video single handedly made me fall in love with Seonghwa. I seriously love and respect the fact that he sang the song without changing pronouns. A lot of idols would have changed them. He didn’t.

@@juliajd9063 considering how strong the stigma around being LGBTQ still is in South Korea, it would make sense that either the idol would avoid Troye Sivan music in general or would change pronouns to be neutral or heteronormative (that's not to say there isn't stigma elsewhere but within the industry especially it is pretty heavily frowned upon because it can interfere with the development of a parasocial relationship with the fan base). ATEEZ is one of the outlier groups that is more vocally supportive of the LGBTQ+ community and plays more openly with gender expression (see any outfit or interview where Seonghwa, Hongjoong, or Yeosang are dressed in a more feminine style and refer to their preferred style choices as genderless). That more vocal/progressive stance is part of why they don't do as well in SK as they do internationally. So no, it's actually not ridiculous at all.

@@Mikaela_16 It's not that there is anything wrong with changing them if that's what would make sense for him but rather the fact that he didn't is impressive and a bit brave/exciting. The original song is written by an openly gay, non-Korean artist who is openly singing about another man and uses male pronouns in the song. So for Seonghwa to sing the song without changing the pronouns is actually a pretty "brave" and exciting thing for him to do. Slightly less so for ATEEZ as a group since they're more vocally pro-LGBTQ, but because South Korea in general is a more conservative culture.

I don't know about Korean specifically, but a lot of Asian languages have gender -neutral pronouns, at least when spoken. Like most of my pals still interchangeably use he, she and sometimes it, to refer to a person. Sometimes in the same sentence. It takes a long while before they can wrap their head around the idea that you have to select a gendered pronoun when speaking in English. I find this idea that Asians are more adverse to LGBT to be rather ridiculous. We always had understanding that there was a place for these kinds of people and they were ok to have around. This wasn't a problem or issue until the western religions were introduced to us. AKA Islam and Christianity. Or should that be middle eastern? There is just no reason to make a big deal out of pronouns to us. It's all the same. What we find offense with is being told we have to conform to what other cultures want. I think we have been messed about with enough.
