Nice Video. I started spearfishing about 3 years ago, i first got the idea after watching one of these videos (not yours specifically but similar high quality) I thought it looked like the most incredible thing to do. this summer i completed my first 45 Meter dive at just 15 years old. I have nothing but thanks, and respect for videos like these. They help get more people interested in the sport. Thank you.

Those fish are not free, the time, gear, and experience to find and get them is priceless, people who spend their lives near the water have never even stuck their heads underneath have no idea what they are missing. When people know you can get fresh fish and lobster like that, they all become very nice to you all of sudden. You can either pay for the near rotten fish at the market or get it on your grill or pan before the sunset. By the way, that is a nice hole, not too many of those fish were spooked or darted off as soon as you came in range. As long as you know bottom structure, known reefs with sand and thick kelp, there will be fish. I do miss being able to park and kick out a few hundred yards to get on a spot, life, work, location, and family makes these trips very rare. Keep up the videos, very entertaining and memorable.

I speared a halibut about 30 years ago in Carlsbad while freediving. It was in the lagoon area where the old nuclear plant used to be and the water was always warmer than the surrounding water because they would use that lagoon to flush the nuclear reactor with to keep the temp down. This in turn warmed the quite a few degrees more and the marine life would just swarm to this area. The halibut I speared was about the same size as this one, but I didn't have a camera to take a picture of it, unfortunately. We didn't have cell phones with cameras on them at that point in time, but I wish I would of at least had one of those disposable one-time-use cameras they used to sell in that time period. I missed out big time because I only have a tale to tell without proof. I sure did have a great day and I will always remember that until I exhale my last breath in this physical realm. God bless

The biggest difference between sportfishing and spearfishing (besides being in another environment) is the ability to select your catch. you will learn what spots are good for what fish and at what times the more you dive, however you are right they are few and far between. This video is actually compiled of 2-3 dives I believe! more time in the water will mean more opportunities at the larger trophy fish!!

Hi Kodiak, great video! I know we spearos are very reserved with our fishing spots, but I'm moving to Santa Barbara in one month and I'd just like to know if I'd be able to see some big fish there... I don't mind going deep; are there some deep reefs with caves that I can check out? KZread videos of Santa Barbara show only very small fish in the shallows, but maybe is just because of the spearos skills... well let me know if we can talk a little. Cheers

Years ago i speared the Carmel area, as well as a couple hours north of sf Bay. Never in the bay or very close though
haha I like the "door mat" for the CA halibut instead of the "barn door" pacific
That shark was amazing
Thanks for posting.
great vid 👍
badass! :)
I noticed you have a magenta filter on your camera...they actually worked pretty good. :)
did anyone get response to where in California coast this was taken? thanx!
It's crazy how different calico grow...I nabbed one 22" 7.2 lbs......
Where at and when's the best time to head out there? Tide? Temperature? Season?
great video! very well put together. looks like you have it dialed in. I work underwater and have never spear fished, how you are doing it looks like a blast, as long as a whitey doesn't want your stringer.

Kodiak Morasky Hey Kodiak did you get that flaty in one of the coves. My uncle and his buddy went out in the cove one day and got 6. I want to shoot one soon do you have any tips. I am one of the local groms and i live in Torrance.
Amazing bro
Great video! I definitely enjoyed watching, Have you had any close calls with whites?
if you don't mind me asking what depths are you seeing most of the larger species at? It seems few and far between to see that many larger fish where I am going. Might be my spot also...

you will learn what spots are good for what fish and at what times the more you dive, however you are right they are few and far between. This video is actually compiled of 2-3 dives I believe! more time in the water will mean more opportunities at the larger trophy fish!!
I live in San Diego mission Valley. Do you ever do any tours on how to spear fish for newbies? Definitely will pay you for your time.
Are you using a gopro? And if you are where exactly are you putting it whole filming . thank you
Nice vid man . Just started spearfishing myself are there any methods to holding my breath like you do?
MAte this is good graphics and content nice
Great video! What kind of mount do you use for your GoPro?
Nice halibut!
Great video! Keep it up! Is the vis always that good there?

+Spearheads I wish it was, normal vis is closer to 15-20ft vis. We only get a handful of days that break past 35ft a year on the coast, at the islands you can expect a low of 40ft and high ov 70 to even 100 sometimes though!! Love ur guys' vids, sick to see ur watching mine!
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MORE
great vid man...have you ever ran into a great white before while diving ?
This is the man we were afraid of in Finding Nemo
nice shots
The seven gill with a tag is extra points!
Where in Cali is this? Off the mailland cost? Channel Islands? Any specific beach/county?
Nice vid man. How long can you hold your breath?

Wow! you've got lots of fish to eat there.
Cheers

Newbrunswick Canada has probably the best halibut

I've seen sheepshead show up in Monterey over the last decade or so, but dam are they cagey, haven't been able to spear one yet, are they good eating?
Maestro.
Great video! Do you us a filter for your camera?
I swam out south Torrey pines at North Black's flat Rock I fasted red meat two weeks went out too far saw a creature too large to identify.. I got three sheepheads
What is the bag limit per species? Very nice camera work!
