I'm from Cabo Verde(West Coast of Africa) and I've to say that papiamento's very similar to our criolo. Your accent might be a bit different here and there but I could talk with someone from Curacao in criolo and they would understand me....this is nice to know

Jennyfer Ross by the way since I watched your video I fell in loooove with Papiamentu, it’s so beautiful and cute!!! I think it sounds so playful and happy, and almost like a dance, if that makes sense! Since yesterday ami ta studiando Papiamentu through an app called iLearn Papiamento! I would say I think the phonetics is most similar to Portuguese (from Brazil), so because it is my native language I’m finding it rather easy to pronounce and read right away with an accurate pronunciation, who knows if maybe one day I’ll visit the islands! Oh and if you made a video speaking only in Papiamentu that would be awesome as well (as there isn’t much content in Papiamentu on KZread)! Ayo, un sunchi!!! 💋

the reason why you can understand us is that our dialect is a mix mostly with Portuguese and Spanish but it also is mix with other creole words from around other Caribbean dialects, most creole based dialects in the Caribbean can understand what we're saying when we speak, and also on our island there is a HUGE Portuguese community living there, they also owned 95% of the supermarket and mini markets on the island! you guys are the real business people there lol!

I've been to Curaçao before and I loved the country and its people! I don't remember hearing a lot of Papiamentu when I was there though. I was surprised that it's actually quite similar to Portuguese, and it reminded me of São-Tomense. Cheers from Brazil!

The languages we speak in order 🇨🇼🇧🇶🇦🇼 1 Papiamentu/Papiamento against each other think it's strange that you haven't heard it or you was in á touristic place 2 Dutch because we are still in the dutch kingdom and education purposes 3 English for tourists and education purposes 4 Spanish because of neighboring countries and tourists and because we listen to a lot of Latin American music. maybe also because we used to belong to spain Papiamentu/Papiamento is mainly based on Portugese. It has Portugese, Spanish, and some English Dutch French Arawak & Africans words in it. Papiamentu spoken in 🇨🇼 Papiamento spoken in 🇦🇼🇧🇶

Papiamentu is such an interesting language, even its name "Papiamentu" reminds me of "Papo" or "Bater papo" that in portuguese basically means chat or chatting. I could understand a lot of what you guys where saying. Some words reminds me of portuguese like Awacati = Abacate, Pan = Pão, berdura = verdura, vinha = vinho, Banho ta liber = Banheiro ta livre.

I love how you guys say "Danke" and answer it with a "De nada" witch sound's so portuguese to me.

Bom, bom, bom..dia... Comer, como vai...papiar, all Portuguese. The wonder of this language is incredible! You can go around the world and still understand and speak a form or other of Portuguese!! Love Papiemento ❤fm 🇵🇹 e bom dia!

it's a bit the same creole as that of cabo verde , casamance( south senegal) and Guinéa bissau....

I've been in ABC few times in the 80s and fell in love with the language. I am fluent on all languages that makes Papiamentu, so I fully understand/read. I am not shy, so I also try speaking, but invariably used the wrong base language. LOL This video brought me back to the good times.

As a Brazillian learning Dutch, watching this is very cool. I really dream about visiting Curacao and Suriname. Much Love. It was very interesting to notice that the 'w' in Surinamese Dutch has actually an American sound intead of a 'v' sound like in Netherland Dutch

im from Bonaire and i speak papiamentu there and there are alot of dutch people there aswell and spanish Bonaire is usally hot but lots of people still survive there and live there life by the way....... did you know...... You clicked on Read More. TvT

This was a fun video! Benny seems to know a lot of words. A little training and he can hold at least a basic conversation. 😄 One thing of note though when you were filming the OOTD: Firma = to sign Fi*l*ma = to film Benny was actually using the correct pronunciation. And yes, do the reverse video! It would be fun to watch.
