至少对我来说,可能说母语会展现出你的主要角色/性格primary character,然后呢次要语言会展现出另一个在不同环境下培养出来的角色-- does that makes sense? hahahahahah, obviously my Chinese isn't as good as my English. What I meant was, the mother tongue holds our cultural identity, emotions and life experiences since birth thus, it's easier to display their true and natural character when speaking our mother tongue. And with a secondary language, we might be influenced by different cultural backgrounds and contexts, gradually developing another role or personality! Either way, both are still you! 还有Dave的bar,这个月有机会就去探店!装饰感觉好酷哇哈哈哈哈哈 Great video! Thank you for hard work!

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts! That makes a lot of sense - when I speak Chinese my personality is more a reflection of the part of my life spent in Chinese, shaped by my family, and when I speak English it's more reflective of my "acquired" personality, shaped by my experiences in English - perhaps that's why I feel more comfortable vlogging in English, because that's the person I chose to become. nugget will be open this month Thu-Sun 5pm onwards @泮塘五约涌边街4号 - but it'll be closed this week b/c Dave is on tour again. 谢谢支持 希望可以碰到你~

    I love how you describe your English speaking self represents more of a acquired personality. That’s such an elegant way to put it. I also moved to a English setting in my teens. I find it interesting that I can talk about things in English which I don’t feel as comfortable talking in Chinese. When speaking English, it almost feels like a 1.5th narrative, a slightly different personality, so I’m sharing my stories and thoughts through a medium of a lens. This might not make any sense at all but thanks again for sharing Evelyn!

    I loved the little snippet in your video when you were wondering whether your personality is different when you speak in Chinese versus English. I really enjoy hearing your musings or your “in-progress” thoughts, perhaps because they aren’t definitive and instead retain a sense of wonder and curiously about life and the world. I leave your videos reflecting on the questions you are asking yourself and think about how they apply to my own life. I’d love to hear you talk more about what home means to you, especially since you are going to create a new home somewhere else in the future. Keep up the good work!

    I'm so happy you did a vlog in Chinese (even though my Chinese is not good enough to understand 80% of it). Your personality sounds the same to me in both languages but for some people I notice it sounds different. Perhaps it is because your fluency in both is very high? Also, as a native English speaker, your English sounds perfect to the point I would barely know that it's your second language. But I know we are all harsh on ourselves when it comes to second languages 🥰

  • @Amina088
    @Amina0888 ай бұрын

    I can relate with having different personalities in different languages! My mother tongue is Thai but after spending years overseas, most of the books I read, especially those on self-development and spirituality, are in English. So, when it comes to those terms/ideas/feelings I discovered in the books that speak right to my heart, I tend to use the English words first and then translate it into Thai to people around me. This is even more true when it comes to Japanese words. So many words have its own complicated meaning that does not have an equivalence in English nor Thai. So, I ended up using Japanese in certain moments too (even to those who don't know Japanese -- but are close enough to me to wait and listen to me explains. Haha). I think you seem more confident when speaking in English, but that could also be because you were speaking in your own home/alone, whereas this one is a travel vlog. Look forward to more videos in Chinese too! I know that it is not the focus of your channel but it sounds fun. Btw, I like your videos! I came across the "a day in a life without a job" video you released 2 months ago today and was surprised that you only had 8,000 subscribers then but now that has grown to over 36,000. (Congratulations!) I then checked your shorts and noticed that you have a really candid but pleasant style! Was really impressed by how meticulous and honest you were in your weekly expense too. I'm considering moving to Beijing for work and your videos have been so helpful in giving me ideas how daily expenses might look like there. Xie xie, Evelyn! ❤ And good luck with your KZread channel! I can see the effort you put in and believe that it will keep growing. 😊 Loves from Thailand! (and a new subscriber 😄)

    Dave here; I set up my own bar/cultural company, nugget records, which I then used to employ myself as an owner. It's easy enough to do (though costs some money if you use an agent), as you renew your visa each year the government will want to see you're paying some tax, earning some money, so it has to be a legitimate business that's earning some money every month!

    sadly there are fewer and fewer younger people in Canton who can speak Cantonese, because it's no longer taught or used in schools. however when I go into shops I'm still greeted in Cantonese first - I hope it stays that way!

    @@QueenXKnit Digital files can also be encrypted. for instance, you download files from internet, and have to purchase security USB drivers to decode the file, then able to read the message. Banks also have security USB driver, when connecting to internet bank, the clients have to plug in this security USB driver, then able to do internet banking.

    These floppy disks were being sold so that we could raise money for a charity helping those affected by the recent Moroccan earthquake. It's not the files inside that are important, but the physical item itself that you receive as a thank you and a memento of your support!

    What do you mean “almost normal life”? People are living normal lives. This vlog is literally showing them doing the same thing people in China and other countries do all the time, like go out to restaurants and shops and just enjoying themselves. And she has other vlogs where she is working and traveling. Does Dave look scared to you in them? Most average people on China don’t go about their lives in fear.
