"Speak yourself!"…

Do NOT use BTS as an excuse to be racist and anti-black. BTS literally debuted as a hip-hop group and all their songs are still filled with raps. They grew up under black culture and music's influence and have always shown respect to it. They would NEVER stand for such racist stereotyping.

Do you understand what they are saying on this video in Korean? In case of NOT, all what they are saying is that BTS' lyrics are different from the other musicians on the chart. It seems like their lyrics are more gentle, hopeful and positive than others. Also they thought the reason why their lyrics are so constructive, which comes from their attitude that is humble and nice. That is it. There is no racial or anti-black comment. You got them wrong, I think.

MinKook DaeHan except they didn't say "other musicians" did they? They specifically mentioned hip-hop and r&b aka music created by black people and genres dominated by black people. What he said was anti-black and pushes a negative stereotype that continues to thrive in korea. You know most people here found out about the video because of a korean journalist? We're not google translating their comments or anything lol they were translated directly from a Korean.

@@idk-yq8qr , I watched this video multiple times after read your comment. Yes, they did mention Hip-hop and R&B, but with a different reason(I think). This is what he says, #1. 그리고 젊은 친구들이 열광하는 뮤지션들이 많은데," "If we look at the top to bottom in the single chart, there are many hip-hop musicians, R&B musicians, and a lot. And there are many musicians loved by many young friends." (I think they mention two genres as some examples of genres in the charts, and those genres use negative expressions often: you can argue with this part because they mention ONLY those without mentioning other genres such as hard rock, pop, rock, blues, country, rap, reggae, disco, folk, or others in their examples.) #2. "If we look at the lyrics of those musicians, there are stories of drugs, or 'there is no choice so that I have to destroy...' or this kind of something, what can I say it?” (I think they imply those musicians to the musicians young people love, so they can connect this idea to their parents, which is mentioned in the following sentence, #3 : you can argue this because they imply that those musicians are ONLY hip-hop or R&B musicians.) #3. ” "When we look at those lyrics through the perspective of parents, parents would worry about them.[she says 'the lyrics are like anger and resistance']" (What parents worry about is negative lyrics, I think.: you can argue it because he implies that parents eventually hate the musicians, not the negative expressions.) #4. "If we look at the lyrics of BTS songs, BTS read the book of the famous philosopher Carl Jung and was inspired by it, and created the album, 'Map of the soul'..." (I think, what they really want to say is to emphasize the positive movement created by BTS. So, their fans started to love BTS.: you can argue it as they try to split music industry into two, 'angel and devil'.) When I watched this video first, I listened to ONLY the positive side of BTS in their opinion. After I have checked every single sentence in this video, I think he should mention all other genres in the single charts or should not mention two genres as examples at all. Except these genres, I have not found any discrimination, like racial or anti-black. If what you really want to say is that he is a racist because of your previous experience from other media, I have nothing to say. That is out of my issue here.

So I don’t understand why someone would generalize and disparage an entire race or culture because of a stereotype. International ARMY are always fighting back against stereotypes in the Western press whenever stereotypes of Asians are used and now this panel is doing the same thing to blacks and hip hop/rap???? BTS are breaking barriers all over the place..... they don’t support negativity or drugs or anything at all but are human beings who are not perfect. We luv their authenticity and their desire to be good role models....but they appreciate and respect artists who preceded them.... why do you need to twist things and use BTS to do it?....

Without these latest dance trends and music from black people, Bts would still be in Korea. . Koreans weren't even checking for BTS but now that they are making moves now you all notice? I understand you all want to feel some sort of pride because you could not come up with this stuff by yourself. Your big three companies including big hit use black artists and dancers. I swear we as black folks need to put a lock on our shit if you non-black wanna act like this. If we so bad then stop using our music which is HIP HOP, R&b, ROCK AND ROLL, DANCES WE MAKE, AND CLOTHING. Lets then see how long you float.

I'm not defending the commentators but they never said BLACK artists all talk about drugs or violence. They said that there are SOME hip-hop and r&b songs on music charts that discuss such things and praise BTS for having thoughtful lyrics. Again, it's true that some hip hop and r&b songs talk about drugs, violence, etc. but NOT ALL. (YES, black people created the genres of hip hop and r&b but criticism about some lyrics of the genre do not mean the comentators are racist.) They never bashed black people or said that they're all violent or do drugs. There's some false drama going on around IG and Twitter about this clip without the proper context and false translation. I'm speaking as someone who is fluent in both Korean and English.

Hip hop is all about telling your truth through rhythm and poetry. There are as many types and topics of rap as there are truths and not all include violence & drugs. You’re just not educated enough to speak about this topic... so don’t. BTS is talented and they are paving the way for KOREAN artists, but let’s not get it twisted, they’re not paving the way for hip hop... they’re borrowing from it. ❗️❗️❗️Give the video a thumbs down to show you don’t agree with their anti-black statements❗️❗️❗️❗️

Hiphop music was born from black culture. While everybody is free to enjoy the music they like and artists are free to make the music they want to, I don't think it's fair for you to generalize and discredit the hiphop artists that BTS (and so many other South Korean artists) admire just to uplift BTS's music. By doing so, you appear not to understand BTS or their music at all, and yet you celebrate their achievements as if it were your own. Music is universal but also as diverse as the cultures around the world. I suggest you take great care with the words you use because this lack of respect and, quite frankly, very limited understanding of hiphop culture sounds racist. Edit: Another worthy topic for conversation, I think, is the kind and caliber of K-pop music being exported, in general. How do these compare to BTS's growth in musical quality and artistry? How are these contributing to the still popular notion all over the world that Korean pop music is "factory manufactured"? Do better, SK media, or lazy and prejudiced journalism is what you'll be known for...

American hustle life, JTBC, try to watch that. Who do you think help them mold the thoughts that music itself should be the representation of your soul, that a voice should always convey what was within? That despite their success never to lift their feet above the ground, always stay humble? They even visited the downtown and the homeless to learn what is humanity and how the world revolve? Who taught them not everything are sparkles and joys, during those times they should learn to tough it up? Black people, music and culture. There were even tons of references there how the black community, not just their music, guided them to their success. This has lack of research clearly. The gospels now a days were even lead by black singers, words of hope and respect in their lyrics. BTS members and big hit are not saints, they had culture references that backlashed, they apologized, then started to pay them respects, if what they gave was not enough, which already are to begin with. Still, when they started to use BLACK music as inspirations, they forego the talks you’ve mentioned and concentrated on much numbered great songs. They wven have references of african culture and festivities on their dances, meaning they know the positive embodiment of black music and culture. The boys repsected lots of cultures, regardless, learn from them, they studied, so should you.

(I think, what they really want to say is to emphasize the positive movement created by BTS. So, their fans started to love BTS.) I have not found any discrimination, such as hip-hop hate, R&B hate, racial, anti-black or violence, in this video.

The irony that BTS themselves would never stand for this. They were originally a HIPHOP group to begin with and still feature rap heavily in their songs. They grew up influenced by black culture. They’ve collabed with multiple black artists like Nicki Minaj, Wale, Desiigner too. I'm surprised it took this long for South Korean commentators to use BTS as an excuse to be anti-black. Kpop is literally influenced by black music . Where did rap come from?? STOP using BTS as an excuse to hate a whole community!!

This news report on BTS didn’t mention at all about racist or anti-blackness things. Why so many comments argue that this is something related to racism? One commentator said the BTS didn’t attend the after party of BMA and that might be related their decent characters which gives a bit fresh(?) impression for fans. Maybe some people got angry that the commentator mentioned BTS shows some uniqueness to deliver social messages like love yourself. Because there are many more artists before BTS who has also delivered. But as far as I understood, this wasn’t meaning to degrade black culture (wasn’t even mentioned!).

I think English comments here didn't understand fully this video...they didn't say that hip-hop is from America and cultural things. They are saying that most of the American artists' s lyrics are about party and drug or bragging about what they have(well..i think Korea too) but bts' s lyrics are positive and healthy for people. That's it. Thats what they say in this video. Please don't trust your wrong translation tool. They are always drunk I think^^ Also you guys are always talking about bts's debut era in Korea. Yeah they had poor treats however did you guys knew them in 2013 then ? Of course they are talented back then too but not like now. There was so many boy group in 2013 also. They are growing. In America do you guys focus on every new artists?? Same same..

조나단 don't worry we're trusting a Korean journalist not online translators. Either way I can clearly hear "hip-hop" and "r&b", both genres created and dominated by black people. Them pushing their racist stereotypes on them and is anti-black. Also I don't really get your comment about 2013 bts? I don't think people are talking about how they were treated then? The only reason the English comments are bringing up 2013 bts is to point out that bts literally made their debut as a hip hop group. The very same genre and culture they're insulting. Which just makes the video even more ridiculous knowing that bts have always shown respect to hip hop and black artists and culture.

Stfup, it's literally Koreans who notified others of the present antiblackness in this vid. Somebody don't have to directly say fck black people for shit to he racist. You are the one looking like a joke here "lol I'm laughing at y'all being offended" well, we not shocked but we ain't stfup. The beginning of hip hop is deadass political music, critiquing society content, people are racist asf when they say there's different rock lanes, & pop lanes, but when it's hip hop everybody is mostly 1 thing as if hip hop and trap aren't different things. Black music isn't a monolithic nor limited to rap & rnb & if something is antiblack it will be called that.
