Yes, but what about reality? This explains why complete idiots actually get enthusiastic followers to be *for* things that are very bad. This explains why there are people who think murderous rapists should be welcome into all countries. This explains why people like 0bama and the clintons have followers, even though they want horrible things for the USA. :( This Simon Lancaster is so into language, he is blind of reality and facts. I love how he explained that rhetoric isn’t taught in schools as it once used to be. Now there’s so many young people out there that have no idea how to express themselves and it holds them back from making a difference. I somehow feel like this isn’t an accident. Someone was trying to hold us back.

Let's Revive Rhetoric in Public Education! "It is absoulutely scandalous that, when in the world we're dealing with such huge challenges , financial inequalities, the apocalyptic threats of climate change, religious persecution unmatched since the 1940s, that we should be restricting debate to such a narrow minority (the politicians). Instead of teaching our children to sit down and shut up we should be teaching them to stand up and speak out. So, let's revive rhetoric (in education). Let's really reinvigorate debates around the world and let's really give the chance to every child on the planet to become a leader. How should we call this Grand Initiative? Well, here's an idea: How about Democracy!?" Simon Lancaster A strong finish! Superb indeed!

Before we stand up and speak we should first learn, as children, to shut up and listen! This guy has it backwards. ( ! ) Okay, I really enjoyed this talk and agree this is a very important topic, but this was uploaded in 2016, I'm writing this comment in 2018. Nothing has changed at all. Nobody (to my knowledge) has implemented retoric/speech in the school programs. The same goes for other valuable ideas shared before in TEDx, for example, I remember a talk given by an old man who lived in Africa and had discovered how to stop climate change by bringing in roaming cattle to dry lands... What are we waiting for? This comment section is full of capable and inteligent people, We applaud this concepts and ideas, but we don´t take action.

He's an excellent guide to public speaking (speaking from my own experience). Wise words in the end; schools of rhetoric must be available for all children whose future is in their hands because adults failed them.

Important Clippings: - 6 speech writer secrets: 1. The rule of 3. Like TEDx slogan: rethink, reinvent, and reinvest ourselves. 2. Three sentences in which the opening clause is repeated. 3. Metaphor is probably the most important piece of political communication. 4. Images of positive and negative things. 5. Exaggeration 6. Rhyming sentences -They work because they speak to the instinctive, emotional and logical brains. -Instead of teaching our children to sit down and shut up, we should be teaching them stand up and speak out.
