Spawned by a Sturgeon! Commentary from one of the Great Lakes best underwater cameraman.

Spring is sturgeon spawning time ~~
Lake sturgeon like to spawn in fast water. The faster the better. Greg Lashbrook has spent the last forty years filming these majestic fish. Greg was the first to document the largest free-range spawning population in the entire Great Lakes basin. He was also the first to document sturgeon in the Big Manistee River, MI and is currently working on filming them in the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids, MI.
This footage is all from the upper St. Clair River site. This is the largest free-range population meaning they are not trapped by any dams giving them access to the entire Great Lakes system.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resource did a study on this population to determine its size. They estimate 29,500 adult lake sturgeon utilize this site for spawning!!!!
Since sturgeon only spawn once every three to four years, that means that on average the upper St. Clair River site get about 10,000 visitors every spring!!!

That's amazing footage. What is that glass dome doing on the bottom of the river?

Thanks, @kidthump we're glad you liked the video! A local diver put the mirror on the bottom as a way to judge the water clarity. If you can see the "dome" clearly from the surface you have at least 30 ft of visibility. Greg couldn't resist the opportunity for a rare underwater selfie lol
