I grew up here, from 1958 to 1970. My dad was a highway patrolman here as I was growing up, it was like living inside Cheers, where everybody knows your name.

Nice video... I grew up here and moved back after my military career. Never dawned on me to think of the no graffiti and bars on windows. The square you're looking for is the 3 sides of the courthouse. Small, simple town, but wish it would grow a little bit, like maybe get a Home Depot. 😁 The name Calfkiller has a story behind it.

We have since been there again and did find the city square. It's so pretty and reminded me of "Back to the Future". Love this little part of the world. Thank you for your comment! Please click the thumbs up and subscribe to our channel.

Sparta is my hometown. Can't imagine living anywhere else. When you said you were on the South side of town you were actually on the East side. When you turned around you were actually heading West instead of East. The main highway is US-70 or Bockman Way aka the million-dollar mile. Back in the 60s someone coined the nickname "Gasoline Ally" because of all the service stations on Bockman Way. You should have visited the White County Museum which is located behind the courthouse on South Main Street. Thank you for posting this video of our great little town.

I grew up in Sparta and just remember it being called the “strip” or the million dollar mile. I graduated in 1969 from white county high school.

What does she mean there was a city square but she didn’t see it. She passed right in front of it pointing out the courthouse.

@@lundtravels I grew up in Sparta and lived one block from the city square. The court house was the center on the square but then they cut off the road where you couldn’t circle the the square. I was a teenager during the 60s and our “strip” was circling the square and then driving across town to circle the Dairy Queen which was replaced by Sonic and back again all night. My dad was a highway patrolman in town and back then for me was like Cheers where everybody knew your name.

Visited Sparta area a few months ago. From California and looking to get out. We are very conservative and living in California is killing us. We will not move to a place with ho!Alexa tents and bars on windows.
