I know Ron is known for being Stoic but him smiling is just awesome to see. Love the dude
"It's that break in the song when I should say something special..." I love how self-aware Ron Mael is with his lyrics.

Nothing says I love you more than 'I never feel like garbage when I'm with you!'😍
I've just watch Edgar Wright's doco The Sparks Brothers, and what really came across was not just how talented they both are but how funny and genuinely likeable they appear to be. Very surprising, particularly considering Ron's aloof stage persona.
...this song is an epitome of 80'....so simple but so cute...
I can't believe I found out about these guys literally weeks ago. I'm so grateful for the internet... bands can live on to new audiences so many years later. I love this song. I love Sparks! My world is a better place having heard this!

I always thought they were Brits, until today, and this song, omg, takes me back to my younger days.
Genius
This was a big hit in Paris, Autumn 1980. i heard it in all the nightclubs. I came home to New York at Christmas time and nobody had ever heard it. I had to put in a special order for the 45 at a hip Greenwich Village record shop. What is the appropriate Biblical line: "A hero is without honor in his own country"?

good song and nice video
From memory, this song peaked at No.14 on the Australian Charts. A simple 'plodding' Drum beat with clever, quirky keyboards and a Bass line that pumps in time with your heart. Super intelligent music. I saw them LIVE at The Metro Theatre in Sydney on 12/01/2001. Mind blowing.

Saw SPARKS in the 70s and Still Love Listening to Them today 🎶
The first time I ever saw Sparks was on TV's American Bandstand in the 70's. They performed "Get in the Swing," and I was mesmerized and instantly hooked.
Brilliant lyrics. Turning the Great American Songbook on it's head...but still respectful of it. 🥰💕

I can't (or rather CAN) believe the 80s overlooked them themselves. While it was the best decade for music, it was always the shitty dahlings of the music press and puerile shit that got the attention (even over the best 80s people), so naturally this happened with the Sparkies.

Swing. "Looks, looks, looks" and I think "Get in the swing" partly is swing, it's a sort of hybrid. Jazzy anyway. Then we have the songs "Gone with the wind", "Here comes Bob" and "It ain't 1918". I'm not sure if Profile can be in that group of "silent movie music", though the others are ragtime (I think..., but played around 1915- -30, I'm not young, but not that old 😂). Yes, they varie their music! 😁 🤩💖

@@pbattis1 that's how it should be. Too many people are so narrow minded, they'll listen to one or two different genres only. Almost any music genre has their gems, they just have to be found. Apart from loving The Sparks and DK, I also enjoy listening to John Coltrane, The Dubliners, Edith Piaf, Beethoven, John Cale, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Johnny Cash, Caberet Voltaire, Public Enemy, The Kinks, Astor Piazzolla etc. If more people would open up to different ideas, cultures and aspects of life, maybe this planet would be a less violent place.
