Tesla coils are great and all, but the real electricity in the room? The dance moves of "MythBusters" co-host Adam Savage during Maker Faire Bay Area 2011.
-----
MythBuster Adam Savage talks about inspiration with attendees of the 2011 Maker Faire Bay Area. What inspires you?
Adam Savage has spent his life gathering skills that allow him to take what's in his brain and make it real. He's built everything from ancient Buddhas to futuristic weapons, from spaceships to dancing vegetables, from fine art sculptures to animated chocolate and just about anything else you can think of.
Since 1993, Adam has concentrated on the special-effects industry, honing his skills through more than 100 television commercials and a dozen feature films, including Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Galaxy Quest, Terminator 3, A.I. and the Matrix sequels. He's also designed props and sets for Coca-Cola, Hershey's, Lexus and a host of New York and San Francisco theater companies. Not only has he worked and consulted in the research and development division for toy companies and made several short films, but Adam has also acted in several films and commercials -- including a Charmin ad, in which he played Mr. Whipple's stock boy, and a Billy Joel music video, "Second Wind," in which he drowns.
Today, in addition to co-hosting Discovery Channel's MythBusters, Adam teaches advanced model making, most recently in the industrial design department at the San Francisco Academy of Art. Somehow he also finds time to devote to his own art. His sculptures have been showcased in over 40 shows in San Francisco, New York and Charleston, W.Va.

    we can prevent body by keeping it inside the hollow body as there is no electric field inside the hollow body this phenomena is termed as electrostatic shielding and a body which used to perform electrostatic shielding is called *Faraday cages* .

    I bet that actually he would not die- Explanation: Flow of the current occurs only when there's difference in electric potentials. Let's say that those ''lightnings'' are 50kV. The cage must has been connected to the ground (0V). Obvious. We can get lightnings. If he is isolated from the ground there's no current that could go through him, meaning he is safe. Remember birds landing on ''voltage lines'' and nothing happening? Touching high voltages does nothing where current have no way to flow...

    To all those people talking about him touching the cage - if you look closely, you can see there's some clear glass or plastic lining the cage. It's easier to spot during the music as Adam is reflected in it, but it means it's not actually possible for him to make contact with the metal due to the glass/plastic in the way.

    the point of a faraday cage is , EVEN IF you touch the cage, you will not get hurt, the metal is a much easier way for the electrons to go through than your body and they always find the easier way, so they will choose to pass through the metal and ignore your body and you will never get hurt

    A faraday cage should be lined with something non conductive. Like plexiglass. I do believe that is what was is between him and the cage. That is how I was taught, but I am no expert.

  • @Rusty170027

    @Rusty170027

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jorjiang1 That's not the point of a Faraday Cage. What you've simply described is grounding (assuming the cage is grounded) through a path of least electrical resistance but that's not what defines or even what makes a Faraday Cage in anyway remarkable. Because the charge distribution only accumulates on the surface, if you touch the surface of the cage you'd just split the circuit and would be acting as a parallel resistor and so electricity still would run through you (although because a metal cage has a lower resistance than you, most of the current would go through the cage). But if the supply voltage was high enough and/or the cage had a higher resistance you could receive a bad shock. A Faraday Cage blocks external electromagnetic field lines. If you have a gaussian surface, a conductor, with a surface charge distribution with an empty space inside it, that empty space is cut off from any external electromagnetic field lines, since the interior field lines within that conductor act equally and oppositely, cancelling each other out (E-field = 0).

I would say that he does a lot to promote enthusiasm in science. The simple idea that scientific inquiry can reveal the truth and uncover myths for what they are, is lacking in many American children. He may be a clown, but he inspires people to practice science. That is a worthy academic service.
