The third Sparkle almost feels like the actress is trapped by the persona of Sparkle

first part: Mask is who she pretends to be (happy), she is an actress playing the part of Sparkle. second part: Mask matches how she feels, she has become the character Sparkle (Happy/Happy, Sad/Sad Angry/Angry) third part: she is no longer the actress, Sparkle is now its own entity/being and who she was before the Mask/Sparkle doesn't matter anymore, she IS Sparkle.

Don't know if you've noticed this, but the mask slowly became human. Almost as if the girl and the mask swapped places. At first she just played a role, then later became the role. Only being consumed by the role in the very end.

I think this is right, because it's about how she spirals as she plays the character until the character becomes her. The first time, she says that the mask is always the same, because she's just playing a role on stage for people to watch, so she hides under the veil and lets people see 'Sparkle'. The second time (Which subtitles show is after 99 shows), she says that the mask is now matching her, because Sparkle is part of her, and when she's on stage she's letting it show (Which is why she describes Sparkle as the reflection of her). The third time (Which subtitles show is after 990 shows), she says mask no longer matches her (Hence the "I'm not Sparkle" line), because Sparkle isn't just a part she's playing anymore but who she really is (Hence the following "No, I am Sparkle" line following the previous). But now she sees the various roles like her offstage identity as just various masks she's wearing, which is why she also calls life a giant stage because she's ALWAYS Sparkle now.

This character makes allot of Heath Ledger Joker references in the game. "Why so Serious?" "and I thought my jokes were bad" "I'm a girl of my word" (joker says "I'm a man of my word") "“I won’t hurt you, because you’re just too much fun.”(Joker says kill not hurt) This character was CLEARLY inspired by the Comic Book character The Joker. Who is synonymous with The Joker? Heath Ledger. Why is The Joker forever and always going to be Synonymous with Heath Ledger? Heath Ledger was a normal dude who was simply an Actor. He put on the metaphorical "mask" to become the Joker. Heath Ledger then through his role as the Joker. Became the Joker himself. He played The Joker on stage and off stage. His whole life became The Joker. Sparkles trailer is clearly a reference to the mental and emotional complexities of Heath Ledgers Story as The Joker. Him going from just an actor, into The Joker this is "Who I am". I act as if "I am" this person. Heath Ledger has a line in the Movie "“Now, I See The Funny Side. Now, I’m Always Smiling!”. Which I believe is what they used for why her masks always smiles despite how she feels as a person. Then Heath Ledger the person being consumed and became one with the character he played, The Joker. Blurring the lines of am I Heath Ledger playing as The Joker on stage or am I The Joker playing Heath Ledger off stage. Which is why the mask now mimics her emotions. Heath Ledger talks about this duality in interviews. Such as the Journal he wrote when he isolated himself for 6 weeks writing in his journal as if he was The Joker. Then transitions into the "Manic" or "schizophrenic" nature of losing ones Identity in a role. I think this is where they used the "when I 'm happy, you're screaming." "When I'm angry, you're crying." "When I'm sad, you're smiling.". Then we have "You're like a face, staring at me. I....I'm not Sparkle." I think this means I am not sparkle, sparkle is just a character you created as a product. I think this is a reference to Heath Ledger saying this about his career "In a way, I was spoon-fed, if you will, a career. It was fully manufactured by a studio that believed that they could put me on their posters and turn me into their bottle of Coca-Cola, their product."

A neat thing is that if you look carefully at the subtitles it tells the time of the three stages: first one being sparkle premiere debut, second being 99 shows in, and last one being 990 shows in showing that she is losing herself as she continues being an actress before quitting.

The final part is a fourth-wall break, the mask is a human face to represent the player and Sparkle herself is just a puppet being controlled by the mask (the player). When she says "off the stage is an even bigger stage" she's referring to the fact that even when she's not playing a role that just being "Sparkle" is itself a role (as a playable character in-game). It's kind of in-line with Sampo's fourth-wall break at the end of Belobog and will probably be a recurring theme with Aha-related characters.

Very good analysis, goes in line with how I thought the third one is.

Haven't checked if it's the same in EN version but JP version if you turn on Subtitle it says that each of the mask is her 1st, 99th and 990th performance respectively so spiraling down the insanity lane is definitely an appropriate assessment of the scene. What truly happen tho? Who know Edit: seems like lots of ppl notice this detail too from the cmt section

The crazy thing about the 3rd part for me is that it seems like the mask enjoys her suffering, that it gets mad with her happiness and elated with any negative emotions that she has going on... and her sense of self goes the more she plays her part as sparkle

if anybody is confused the first mask makes her smile no matter what emotion she really harbors she smiles even if she is feeling angry and sadness inside....the 2nd mask reflects exactly her emotions if she is angry she shows her angriness..if she is sad she shows her sadness..if she is happy she shows her happiness...third mask shows her mask allows her to display the opposite emotion oh how she really feels she smiles when she is sad...she gets angry when she is sad....she becomes sad when she is angry..........this different type of masks allows ger to capture different personas extremely accurately like she can become sampo, robin and can capture their personality to a tee

It feels so much deeper than that, thats the basic description what you can understand though it is the progression of her playing roles as wearing a mask At first the mask is just a mask it shows the face carved on it, then it become able to "reflect sparkles emotions" as she get better at playing roles, and in the end Sparkle herself become a mask, a role, the real Sparkle is trapped behind it and her emotions can no longer show, or either she'd able to show any emotion she want without it being what the real sparkle feel like, but it really gives creepy vibes as if Sparkle was actualy traped inside the role she represent for whoever she is now

@@Lew98765My take is in the end, Sparkle evolves into a form that can embody anyone. She figures out that life is a big play, and her real self is just another character in the mix. The mask is basically her tool to transform, letting her slip into different roles with ease. Now, she's a puppeteer pulling the strings and controlling the show. Good luck trying to pin down her true emotions or figuring out who the real Sparkle is. She's all about the mystery and enjoys keeping everyone guessing.

her being happy and the mask screaming(anger), her being angry and the mask crying are not opposites. the 3rd mask is not opposites, it’s just a warped response to her emotions. If she is sad, the mask is happy and smiles. If she is happy, the mask is mad about it. (the opposite is sadness) if she is angry, the mask is crying. (the opposite is being calm or maybe happy)

When it says "when I'm sad, you're crying too." I think the word choice is very specific here. This line and the one right before after "When I'm angry, you're screaming too." imply that the mask allows her to amplify her performance, similar to how some actors use their role or medium as a method of self expression, because they cant express their emotions in the real world. And this disconnect becomes larger and larger over the course of time, until you're nothing but the persona.

Glenn Howerton, the guy who in plays "Dennis" in Sunny in Philly has the same thing going on. Man twitches every time someone mentions "Dennis" and snaps into character right away if someone asks.

You're right on the money with your hypothesis my man! That was the intention behind Sparkle and this trailer, I'm pretty sure! Just think about how Sparkle is literally the Joker, and how the original actor playing the Joker way back in the day (Heath Ledger is the name iirc) ended up after playing that role for so long.

Im thinking the first mask is normal depress sparkle, the 2nd mask is the fox mask that helps her deal with depression and then the 3rd mask is aha mask that is influencing her to go crazy

What I feel the three parts of the trailer means to convey is essentially a very hidden, with its telling, timeline for Sparkle. First part: Sparkle is just a girl who finds a mask, and begins to use it as a way to comfort herself and hide away from reality. When she's experiencing emotions, its always smiling. And she originally took comfort from it. Because it was just a mask. And it was only capable of showcasing smiling with how it was built. Second Part: Sparkle has begun to dissociate, and now sees the mask as being just as real as she is. Its mirroring her emotions, and her mask is now a real entity with emotions, just like her. Third part: Sparkle begins to see that the truth is that...the mask is real, and alive. And it's she, that is the one who isn't real. In this final act, the roles have reversed. The girl behind the mask isn't actually real, while the mask is more real than she ever was. She doesnt even know who the girl behind the mask is, because her life wasnt real. While the mask is, and always was, the real Sparkle.

In the music video one she reminded me a lot of Kurumi Tokisaki.

What if it’s showing a progression of time. Like when she first got the mask it was just a mask always smiling and she could cover her face to hide her emotion. Then it mirrored her face so she couldn’t hide her emotions. Then the mask showed its true intentions. It’s a way for Aha to control her by breaking her emotions.

Sparkle is the friends we made along the way

Scene 1 the girl performing as sparkle (which allows her to hide her emotions behind the mask still able to face the people) Scene 2, the girl and sparkle, becomes one after 99 performances (which is why she faces away from the people at the end) Scene 3, when the girl is happy she looks angry(screaming) at others. When she is angry, she looks sad(crying), when she is sad, she looks happy(smiling) with others. After so many performances, no one sees her as the girl performing anymore, and she knows she is the "performer" and nolonger just performing.

JP VAs rules. I read it like: First, few shows, mask is a mask. Second, after 99 shows, mask comes alive and copies her. Third, after 999 shows, mask takes the control, and she becomes the mask, so she is not the original Sparkle anymore, but it's a new Sparkle, being one with the mask.

I think Sparkle is my favorite Genshin / SR character in terms of personality/lore. Not sure if I'm actually going to get her, but she's an awesome character. Awesome trailer. Next level up there with Kafka trailer.

I think this tells the story of the stages she went thru when Aha made her a masked fool. This is a representation of how Aha toys with people

“When I realize that life is just a play.” She said that because she learned something about the reality of the world/universe back then, and that's when she decided or became one of the Mask Fools. We know Penacony is a dream world, and from the player's perspective we know the whole honkai star rail world is a game (kind of a dream world by its nature). What if some of the characters in the game also knows this? What will they do? Why is this important? Remember how Kafka mentioned about Elio knows about the "fate" or "script" of the world? Remember how Sampo seemed break the fourth wall and speak directly to us players? This is where everything becomes interesting. When we make a choice of the dialogue in the game, why do some of us always choose the one that is unhinged? Because we know that all of it is "just a play". "Why so serious?" Sometimes we can be the Mask Fools ourselves. At last, all about sparkle seems make sense now. This also fits how those in the Stelleron Hunters do when they are in a mission. Just like us players, they show little or no sympathy towards the enemies they killed, even if they are not monsters but actual humans. Because they know this is "just a play".

I think the “school girl” look is just her off-work clothes (before catapulting herself off the deep end). She uses several masks. The first cycle used a happy/neutral mask. The second started with that same mask, but switched to an angry mask. The third cycle started with a euphoric mask, then jumped to a different mask every scene change. Since A-Ha uses a mask theme, could Sparkle be an Emanator?!

I think she was a celebrity before she joined Masked Fools part 1: the mask is the expression she shows on stage, a mask that always laughs regardless of what she feels it is a veil that she hides under, so the real sparkle is under the mask. part 2: the mask is the expression that she sees in the mirror which is her true emotions so the real sparkle is what she sees in the reflection. her mask is not facing the audience in this one, so she hides this mask from others. part 3: the mask is the expression of the people around her, she probably had a hard time with people and a celebrity when she is happy it is screaming when she is angry it is crying when she is sad it is smiling 'you are like a face staring at me' and so, what people around her see is not the real sparkle she probably got sick of that stuff and joined masked fools

I think what it means is that there is different masks and there is an evolution first its here premiere then we see its her 99th show or something, perhaps the more representation she do the more she get lost between her different "masks" between her different roles The first one is the physical mask she wear on her face, the one that doesnt change, the one she hide behind when playing Second one is her reflection it seems it means she's able to play better her roles and let her emotions show through it Last one is herself, meaning Sparkle has become a mask for whoever she is, Sparkle is just one of the numerous roles, and the real sparkle is trapped in that as her emotions cannot show through her roles anymore, she is no longer herself, like you well said she doesn't seem to know who she is anymore
