    1. No need for anti-seize as the plugs you have are the platinum plugs. 2. You need to check for a 0.8 gap between the plug 3. Proper torque between 15-20 lbs

    News flash - Platinum plugs are not made from platinum - only the tip of the centre electrode is platimunm

    @@jonahhitchcock5821 anti-seize is a good insurance you can remove the plugs easily in 80kMi without stripped frozen threads. The flip side is its easier to over torque the assembly 😂

    i don't use spark plug sockets for exactly the reason you showed--the rubber seal inside makes the plug stick and the socket comes loose from the extension. then its time to break out the long needle-nose pliers.

    +happy543210 Put a little spit or WD40 on the plug insulator and it won't stick - if it does take a piece of paper towel and put that over the end of the extension and shove it back on to make an extra tight fit with the socket

    Auto Zone sells a spark plug socket that has the socket, boot, small universal joint, small magnet and a 6”inch I believe extension all in one. Around $20 and has been a dedicated spark plug socket for around 10 years and about seven vehicles. Worked like a champ even on the rear bank of a front wheel drive vehicle. No plugs falling off socket or breakage. Best $20 I spent and has well out lived its initial expectations. Total fluke that all my vehicles were the 5/8 spark plug sockets. You can add another extension if needed but I have been able to work with the 6” extension provided. Loosen and tighten and leave the socket installed and switch out the ratchet to a torque wrench........ As they say.....so simple a caveman could do it!!

    Totally different access to the spark plugs when MB went with Direct Injections. Its a 3-5hr job per the book, its not anywhere close to what was in the video and all other port injected MB V6. 2012 + V6 are all DI and require 3-5hrs of labor to get the plugs done.

    it's a good exercise to check for parts quality so you minimize the chances to redo the job twice for a porcelain crack or smashed tip on returned inventory... I guess $20 Ea. ensures a level expectation us met

    I winced when you put the new plug in not using a torque wrench. Way too much torque. 16 lbs-ft ain't much. Looked like you put 30 or more on it.

    Is a little oil on the spark plugs normal?

  • @carquestions

    @carquestions

    7 жыл бұрын

    Nope - got to fix that - most likely a PCV gasket or hose system fault or a cam cover sealing issue - get it fixed asap since your oil level will run dangerously low in some cases Kelvin

    carquestions is the pcv gasket the oil separator behind the engine? is it like a plastic cap with a hose connected to it?

  • @carquestions

    @carquestions

    7 жыл бұрын

    The PCV system has lots of parts - an oil separator, fresh air intake side, suction side, pcv valve, rubber hoses etc - try and find an image of the system on google - all liquids flow down so try and pinpoint the source of the leak first - wash the area and recheck what is getting wet first
