I usually think of the subjunctive as expressing something that may or may not happen. WEIRDO is interesting and it may cover ways that I haven't thought of.

It's not necessary but it is possible to use it. Most people who learn english, learn it properly... And normally we don't speak properly, Fortunately we understand.

I noticed you guys used "llevo" to describe the length of time you have been teaching. I've never seen llevar used like this. Do you have another video or podcast on this topic? Thank you!

"Llevo" used this way..."Llevo enseñando español seis anos."... would translate as "I 'carry' teaching Spanish for six years." In Spanish, the verb 'llevar' is used to say how long you have been doing something. It is also used to list the ingredients of food. "Qué lleva este sánduche?"...."Este sánduche lleva pavo y lechuga y tomate."

Indicative: Quizás lo pueden hacer. (Perhaps they can do it [and I'm sure of it].) Subjunctive: Quizás lo puedan hacer. (Perhaps they can do it [but I doubt it].)

Even simple statements like those containing "es que" and "para que" also seem to trigger subjuntivo... "El objetivo de este video es que entiendan..." "Para que entiendan este tema... "

En mi espanol de septimo grado aprendimos a decir " Que lastima, que se mejor pronto!" Asi que cuando algunos dirian "Tengo enferma, catarro o lo que sea" "Que lastima etc.."

Entonces, en última instancia, si estás usando un verbo mental o emocional, el verbo principal de la frase objeto está en forma subjuntivo.

Ya me tenga confusiado sobre que cuantas formas del verbos son utilisarlos. Me puede usar tensos preteritos? Si digo, " espera que sabrá cuando usarlo el subjunctivo pero me siento que ya no esté verdad." Siempre me da miedo si estoy hablando correctamente. Ayudame por favor!

Your discussion of "que" and "que phrases" made me wonder if it is not really "que" that is the trigger but the verbal forms of "to be." Here: I hope that you will find a job=I hope that you will be finding a job. I hope that you feel better=I hope you are feeling better. We leave the "to be" form out in English (usually) and it also is left out in Spanish, but it is under there somewhere as giving a sense of possibility, of uncertainty, and it is that which triggers the subjunctive, almost as a substitution for the verb "to be" which is no longer needed. Maybe that is why "que" itself is not the trigger.

Jonathan Lloyd there are three triggers for the subjunctive, all of which need to be present. 1. A “weirdo” verb in the main (independent) clause, the conjunction “que” and two subjects, one in the main clause and the other in the dependent clause. For example: yo QUIERO QUE tu COMAS los vegetales.
