Spanish Flu Quarantine Houses: சென்னை தப்பித்தது எப்படி? | History time with V. Sriram
In this episode, Historian V. Sriram talks about Spanish influenza(flu). In current times we have seen the effect of COVID on the world. How it destroyed people and the economy. If we go back 100 years, In 1918, the flu came very similar to COVID. It is called Spanish Influenza, the flu from Spain. During this period the first world war was happening. Many troops were setting their field in Europe. Every troop returning from the war is affected by the flu. Same as COVID, it doesn't have any medicine. A troop landed in Bombay. Through them, the flu started to spread in India too. Here the name given was Bombay fever. On those days 25% of the world's population was affected by Spanish influenza. In July of 1918, the flu entered Chennai. In that particular year (first wave) nearly 3000 people died. Then it gradually decreased. Many said it won't come again. Dr Ragavendra Rao, an officer in the Health Department, Chennai Corporation. He warned the people there will be a second wave. He organised a meeting by gathering all the doctors in Chennai. Colonel Charles Donovan was a doctor/scientist. He conducted the meeting. They took precautionary steps to save people from the second wave. To know even more about it watch the full video. இந்த அத்தியாயத்தில், வரலாற்றாசிரியர் வி. ஸ்ரீராம் அவர்கள் ஸ்பானிஷ் காய்ச்சல் பற்றி பேசுகிறார். தற்போதைய காலகட்டத்தில், உலகில் கோவிட் பாதிப்பை நாம் பார்த்திருக்கிறோம். மக்களையும் பொருளாதாரத்தையும் அது எப்படி அழித்தது என்று. நாம் ஒரு 100 ஆண்டுகள் பின்னோக்கிச் சென்றால், 1918 ஆம் ஆண்டில், கோவிட் போன்று ஒரு காய்ச்சல் வந்தது. அது ஸ்பானிஷ் இன்ஃப்ளூயன்ஸா, ஸ்பெயினில் இருந்து வரும் காய்ச்சல் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த காலகட்டத்தில் முதல் உலகப் போர் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. பல துருப்புக்கள் ஐரோப்பாவில் தங்கள் களத்தை அமைத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தன. போரில் இருந்து திரும்பும் ஒவ்வொரு படையும் காய்ச்சலால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. கோவிட் போலவே, இதற்கு எந்த மருந்தும் இல்லை. பம்பாயில் ஒரு படை இறங்கியது. அவர்கள் மூலம் இந்தியாவிலும் காய்ச்சல் பரவத் தொடங்கியது. இங்கு பாம்பே காய்ச்சல் என்று பெயர். அந்த நாட்களில் உலக மக்கள் தொகையில் 25% பேர் ஸ்பானிஷ் காய்ச்சலால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டனர். 1918 ஜூலையில் காய்ச்சல் சென்னைக்குள் நுழைந்தது. அந்த குறிப்பிட்ட ஆண்டில் (முதல் அலை) கிட்டத்தட்ட 3000 பேர் இறந்தனர். பின்னர் அது படிப்படியாக குறைந்தது. இனி வராது என்று பலர் சொன்னார்கள். டாக்டர் ராகவேந்திர ராவ், சென்னை மாநகராட்சியில் உள்ள சுகாதாரத் துறையில் அதிகாரியாக இருந்தார். இரண்டாவது அலை உருவாகும் என்று மக்களுக்கு எச்சரிக்கை விடுத்தார். சென்னையில் உள்ள அனைத்து மருத்துவர்களையும் கூட்டி ஒரு கூட்டத்திற்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்தார். கர்னல் சார்லஸ் டோனோவன் ஒரு மருத்துவர்/விஞ்ஞானி அந்த கூட்டத்தை நடத்தினார். இரண்டாவது அலையில் இருந்து மக்களை காப்பாற்ற முன்னெச்சரிக்கை நடவடிக்கை எடுத்தனர். இதைப் பற்றி மேலும் அறிய முழு வீடியோவைப் பார்க்கவும். அறியப்படாத பல பொக்கிஷங்களையும் சுவாரஸ்யமான உண்மைகளையும் நீங்கள் கண்டறியலாம்.

Hello Sir, All your videos are really good, and you say the history in nice phase(no rush). So we can imagine the older days from your narration. Small suggestion, while narrating the years, name of a person or place, if possible if it pop-up in the video itself on top right or bottom corner, the video will be even more gripping. Sharing photos in-between video is good but if you add these additional details it will be even more engaging. Thank you. Keep doing many videos sir.
