Crazy how Southgate played such negative football with a squad stacked in attacking talent as England’s. He understands that having a structured defensive unit can and has gotten them far in tournaments, but his inability to adjust the team’s play style to get the best out of his players is what’s holding back this very talented English side. That being said, Spain were 100% deserved winners. Beating the likes of Italy, Croatia, Georgia (who were surprisingly resilient), France, Germany and England in a single title-run is insane. And they won while playing aggressive, flowing attacking football.

Because defensive tactic´s Southgate was against worse teams and even that England won only for the very good indivdual skills and nothing more. With that poor approach was enough to win all matchs, but when England had to face the first of the top teams (and a true collective team) of the tournament, their ultra-defensive and individualistic game in attack was no longer enough to win. Regards.
