Professional Editions for Jazz Ensemble - Grade 5
This monster arrangement is the authentic version as recorded by Bill Watrous and his “Manhattan Wildlife Refuge” in the mid '70s. The signature lines and blazing tempo of Chick Corea's classic are transformed into a roaring chart for big band by master arranger John La Barbera. (Alto 1 doubles Flute, and Alto 2 doubles Soprano Sax)

I think this “promo” was recorded with the average school ensemble trombone player in mind. They could’ve probably find a guy who could record it in the upper range if they wanted. That’s probably why it was also recorded at a comfortable slower tempo.

It could be written atonally, which means that the entire song is written without any designated key signature, and accidentals are written in wherever the chord structure needs them. Look up "Along Came Betty", it's a pretty good example. Although, I don't think Spain was originally written that way, it could be just arranged to make it easier to read for the composer or for the musicians.
