We literally don't know this. I don't understand where this "protective big brother figure" comes from. I can understand being a big brother figure but there's nothing that suggests he was "protecting" Miranda, Jennette or Nathan from anyone. He wasn't the only adult on set. You can’t say genuine for sure because you don’t know the mind of this guy but you can say for sure that he’s good at seeming genuine! he seems very down to earth and true while he does it which, acting or not, is better than seeming fake. he seems real! and that’s what acting is all about. you can’t necessarily trust an actor, because he’s a great one.
