Spacht Sawmill - Dave Spacht cuts log on vintage 1950's-era Frick 00 sawmill
Dave Spacht, owner/operator of Spacht Sawmill in Fairview Village, PA, cuts a log on his 1950s-era wood-frame Frick 00 sawmill with help from Rick Brouse.
Video taken at Spacht Sawmill's 35th Anniversary Open House on November 3rd, 2018. Spacht Sawmill has been operating as a sawmill on the same premises since 1928. Dave and Carol Spacht purchased the mill in 1983 and have maintained it as a "rural" sawmill, selling local hardwoods to craftsmen and woodworkers for utility and fine woodworking use. Old and new technology work together at Spacht Sawmill, where the 1950s circular mill is combined with a modern planing mill. Lumber is both air dried and kiln-dried.

I used to buy most of my lumber from Dave until I moved out of the area 20 years ago. Still looks exactly how I remember it. Might have to stop by next time I'm in town.
Perfect use of the foot clamp! I was waiting on the this is how you shouldn’t operate a sawmill accident.
I liked your mill. I always liked a long mantle. You had a lot of people watching. I can't get no one to stop. I have a 0Frick. With a IH power.
Great video! Watching the video with Dave himself!
Great sawmill setup. I would put a guard over the shaft just to prevent any accidents.
Stepping over that shaft scares me half to death, I personally know people that got killed and crippled by getting wrapped up in those things
We love wood .... enjoyed seeing Dave use the machine to quickly trim it :-)
I love watching videos of older sawmills, i use to work (help) an old gentleman , my neighbour, which is passed on now to almighty maker. God., wow big crowd, u could charge admission and make lots of money.
Same mill my dad had years ago
Start watching at 7:10 where he dogs them with his foot.
I love the sound of a 2stroke detroit
Your crazy 😜 stepping over that shaft! My brother was stripped doing that! Amazing only got bruises!
no one cringed watching him step over that power shaft?!?!
I would love to own one of these old mills. Sadly all of them in my area have been cut up for scrap metal
Isn't that log turner something? Very similar to the modern Orange saw company. 👍
Five year old vid only 34 coments. Have a nice trip
nice black walnut!

Nice old mill I used to work at one in my teen years a good sawyer could work your ass off I know.
i worked at a mill like that every day when i was young, never had a crowd watching me matter of fact you couldn't hire people to watch if you wanted help they would run off !!!

I worked for my dad and he ran a old bell saw ,maybe a little older that that one , my mom would always ask why my friends would never come over after school and visit
Don't throw your tools on the ground. Put them away, then you will know where to find them the next time you need them. Don't show off before the crowd by guiding the lumber with your foot. I don't want to see the blood. Echo the remark re stepping over the running jack shaft. When it catches your pant leg the next thing in line is the family jewels.
hi there real nice
The drive shaft is not covered!
Put a guard over that shaft or quit stepping over it...................fine line between ignorance and, well, stupidity. Nice mill BTW
My grandfather was a sawyer most of his life. But they didn't use any sissy hardhats, or face shields, or ear protection. Huh?
Love sawmills..but horrible with that motor.
Your drive belts are very loose.
Butternut?
You need to charge admission lol kidding
nice setup ,i quit watching the second you stepped over the shaft
