Spacht Sawmill - Dave Spacht cuts log on vintage 1950's-era Frick 00 sawmill

Dave Spacht, owner/operator of Spacht Sawmill in Fairview Village, PA, cuts a log on his 1950s-era wood-frame Frick 00 sawmill with help from Rick Brouse.
Video taken at Spacht Sawmill's 35th Anniversary Open House on November 3rd, 2018. Spacht Sawmill has been operating as a sawmill on the same premises since 1928. Dave and Carol Spacht purchased the mill in 1983 and have maintained it as a "rural" sawmill, selling local hardwoods to craftsmen and woodworkers for utility and fine woodworking use. Old and new technology work together at Spacht Sawmill, where the 1950s circular mill is combined with a modern planing mill. Lumber is both air dried and kiln-dried.

I used to buy most of my lumber from Dave until I moved out of the area 20 years ago. Still looks exactly how I remember it. Might have to stop by next time I'm in town.

I liked your mill. I always liked a long mantle. You had a lot of people watching. I can't get no one to stop. I have a 0Frick. With a IH power.

Great sawmill setup. I would put a guard over the shaft just to prevent any accidents.

Stepping over that shaft scares me half to death, I personally know people that got killed and crippled by getting wrapped up in those things

Don't throw your tools on the ground. Put them away, then you will know where to find them the next time you need them. Don't show off before the crowd by guiding the lumber with your foot. I don't want to see the blood. Echo the remark re stepping over the running jack shaft. When it catches your pant leg the next thing in line is the family jewels.
