    Amazing how different the colors look when you apply them differently. Just layering those colors gives you that baby blue that so many wolves players aren't a fan of, myself included. But with your method of stippling and drybrushing you get a more cool grey.

    Don’t forget that wash stage! And it’s easy to overestimate how much paint from the later, whiter stages is there - it’s not really that much, which helps keep the contrast and keeps the blue looking bluer, with the ‘baby’ blue not there that much, more a trick of the eye.

    Got my D set on Christmas Eve. Feeling a bit unsure but took the plunge . Longtime wolf player , started with some 1st gen. I love your videos and instruction. Great job. So far I think the brushes are just superb , quality off the charts. Just a pleasure to hold and use. I think figuring out the color jumps, damp pad saturation, the overall thinness of the paint and how much to have on brush the hardest challenge so far. I’ve seen improvement on my skill already. I nailed the best shoulder pad coloration yet. Never was able to do blend like this before. I also think 1st gen models and small areas are more challenging . Working on the perfect combo of D brush and regular round brush. When to use which one. I am happy I made this purchase and admire what you created. Just a pleasure to use and see my painting just getting better. Thank you

    Another great tutorial, thanks for all your hard work. may I ask 2 quick questions, Having ordered and waiting for the D set I am lapping up all your tutorials, I haven't yet found a simple instruction on using the wet pad (how much water to add, before starting)? the other question is will this method work on painting multiple figures (say 5-10 Space Marines at a time)? once again thank you for this great work. I sometimes forget to click the like button so have gone back and done so on all past videos ( I'm very old and very crap, what more can I say)

    RN TANKIE just a drop, try some of the earlier videos for the technique, some scenery ones from about two months ago are good. I’m noticing I have to rewet it more than Byron does for mine though, every few minutes actually, and use my finger rather than the paint brush like he does. Just use your finger to test how much, a light sheen on your skin is all you need, and should be used before starting (a dab or two max)m to rewet (personal preference for duration, depends on how you’re using the paint at the time, try every few to 5 minutes to start) and use to clean at the end - check those cleaning instructions!

    As a space wolf sucessor painter and collector totally agree! I've got my own force with a few squads of vanguards with an approximation of Alpha legion colors on their pack pauldron. Basically a throwback to the Alpha legion using deceptive tactics against the space wolves to great effect in the HH & how the wolves have taken their "I recognize my failing and will be sure to correct it." approach to it but also as a nod to Jörmungandr .

    This looks really cool! (I know, I know, I'm sorry but someone has to) seriously though, it does look awesome, but I am curious to see how techniques like this would work on a smaller, more intricate model like a skitarii's armour or a guardsman where you don't have so much space to build up transitions because frankly, I kinda suck at painting infantry. I don't often compliment myself, but I can make a vehicle look pretty damn good, especially if you want it to look like it's been dragged through hell and back, but infantry and characters....they're my Achilles heel, infact my army looks like I painted most of it then comissioned someone who can actually tell one end of a paint brush from another to do the vehicles!

    Hey dude, basically you just drop a brush size comparatively for each step, it does get a bit more tricky, just ensure nothing is too thick and you'll be good! Metallics are incredibly forgiving regardless, which can be very helpful. Also washes are always there to save the day :)

    Really enjoyed this. I'm 100% new to painting so had a few very basic questions, i'm not very artistic or creative so feel I need to understand the whole process a bit more! 1) Are you cleaning your brush inbetween each stage, or because you're mixing the colours anyway does it not really matter? 2) What are you doing with the texture palette? I can see you set your paints out, then you seem to rubbing off the excess, but what purpose does the texture palette serve vs a normal palette? 3) You're rubbing the brush on your hand a lot, why? 4) Is this too much for a beginner? I sort of understand what you are doing in general and it seems challenging to completely mess it up, but don't what to take on too much! Sorry if these are stupid, just trying to understand more!

  • @ArtisOpus

    @ArtisOpus

    Cheers dude! 1) I am doing during cleaning process using the dampening pad and texture palette (cleaning your drybrush and drybrushing are the same thing. 2) It lets me test exactly how the paint will behave on a textured painted model. 3) To get a precise test of behaviour on model (see previous). 4) I've got some great news for you - following a lot of feedback our recent videos are hugely in-depth answers to these questions and are even extra long. kzread.info/dash/bejne/naypu5SHiMivYrA.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6KJudmqY7Tak9I.html

    I think they look better that way.... if marines were real, their armour would look used, drab, war torn and the shine wouldn't be there.... unless they never saw combat. You can get around the all over ''sandpaper'' look, with a trick i saw on another painting channel, mix a little of the colour in question, and apply the same style of stippling, but using a mix of gloss varnish and the colour you wish too enhance., very lightly! It then gives the impression of worn colour and worn armour on the edges, and more ''shine'' to the centre of what ever part of the armour you are painting. He demonstrated it using Vallejo paints and it does look good.
