I’m fairly experienced with 3d printing and modeling with fusion360 so after seeing this video and having strong interest in Saturn V, I figured this is for me.. Next I downloaded the files.. This is insane.. Literally thousands of parts to print and assemble. Each of those parts requiring decisions on how to position on the print bed. This video does not give this project justice. Completing this model was a huge accomplishment and I give you lots of credit for that. I’m going to start at the top of the rocket and see how it goes..🤷‍♂️

Thanks Robert. Good luck with your own build. I didn't have much trouble with slicing and positioning the rocket elements on the print bed. A lot of them were just vertical tubular structures. The engines and LEM were the most challenging parts, but there are some remixes of those that make things a bit easier if you wanted to go there.

Hello from the USA! I just finished watching this video and found it absolutely fascinating. I am now interested in 3-D modeling and I am investigating various types of 3-D printers and what I can actually do with these. I grew up in Florida and currently live right near the NASA space Center, and actually saw the Apollo 11 spacecraft blast off when I was 11 years old. Thank you for introducing me to this incredible world, and by the way, I have watched many of your other videos, I find your enthusiasm infectious and motivating!

I've got these 3D printers: Creality CR-X Pro, Creality CR-10 Smart Pro and Flashforge Inventor. Next printer will be the Flashforge Creator 3 V2. So, which can I recommend? I would go with the CR-10 Smart Pro or Creality Ender 3 S1 Pro or Flasforge Creator 3 V2. The Flashforge printers are very expensive though :-( Now, the CR-X Pro makes fantastic prints, but It is at the repair, and I have no idea whatsoever what is wrong with it....

AWESOME. I had build this model years ago as a store bought kit. Its amazing that you built it to that scale, its AWESOME. it goes to show you where our taxes (USA) goes. Something soooooooo large that flew into space at the time that ONLY the command capsule is the only thing that came back....with the 3 astronauts...lol

Incredible, what a whopper! Now I know why I should get myself a 3d printer as well ....

Can one purchase a kit of this rocket from you?……Will you ever create the gantry that supported the Saturn V during launch……That would make an even more impressive display. I’ve had a 36” Cox plastic model from the late sixties that was supposed to really fly with three rocket engines…….didn’t have the heart to launch it. Your model is the greatest I’ve seen. You did great. Thank you

Sorry, but I can’t print models to sell (well I could but they would cost more than people would pay for them). I don’t plan on printing the gantry because I am storing my model on its side. Thanks for the comments. 👍

I am in the process of printing this beast on my Ender 3. Starting at the top I am down to Stage 3 right now. The ender 3 struggles with the small parts, like the RCS thrusters and it struggles with the lattice like material (like the Launch Abort Tower). After about 20 attempts I got a usable launch abort tower but I think I am going to skip the Launch tower unless I figure something else out. I haven't started the L.E.M. because it looks pretty intricate and I'm not sure how its going to work out. I am relatively new to 3d printing and I have already learned so much about supports, layer height, and retraction settings getting this to print. Hopefully I figure something out along the way. Yours looks amazing and clean.

Thanks a lot. Some of the remixes of this on Thingiverse help with some of the more intricate parts. For example, I think there is a simpler LEM that can be printed in fewer pieces. Good luck with your build.

One day I’ll get to do this. Retirement beckons soon Now…. About that Skylab… (You’ve already got a launcher sir)

I used a Prusa Mk3s printer. The files were sliced with Prusa software. That's all I needed.

Awesome model.... the saturn family of rocket are my favorites too..... the only flaw on your model is the placement of the ulauge rocket on the second stage. They are to be placed on the inter stage between stage 1 and 2. Would you consider building the lut for it.....

Yes, this model doesn’t have the ullage motors on the interstage. Not sure what you mean by the “lut”.

Brilliant and beautiful but why take on such a huge task? How long did it take to print and build and costs of filaments? I think I’ll buy a 1/75 model kit and keep the little hair I have. Well done.

I don’t have all the exact figures but it probably took about 80-100 hours to print and cost about $50 (Australian). I made it because I like big scale models.

I wish I had an STL for a fully assembled F1 Engine.

Hi Paul. I didn’t keep tally of the total print time but I would guess it was in the region of 100-150 hours. I have a Prusa Mk3s printer.

Greetings buddy, I'm a student from the Emirates who is planning on making this and I have already gathered all the materials and the printer. I can really see your channel growing far from what it is now in the future, out of curiosity I wanted to know something, it is really hard for me and many others out there to asseble this part by part as there is no sort of manual, can you by any chance make a detailed video on how to build this from all the parts? Also, if you can't make the video, please let me know how you were able to assemble it P.S please provide me your contact if you can so that I can clear off my doubts on this project, looking forward to your reply. You are an absolute mastermind. I also wanted to know, how much does this rocket weigh?

Thanks for the comments. The download files include detailed 3 dimensional drawings to help you assemble the model. Most of it is quite simple. To view the 3D drawings you will need to download a program called e drawings which can view the EASM file. The engines can be a bit difficult but there are some remix files that print in one go. I used those for Stages 2 and 3. It’s worth looking through the comments on Thingiverse because they provide some more information on the assembly. Good luck with your build.

Hello sir great video, was wondering if you have the link to this saturn V rocket? I checked thingiverse and couldn't find it. I have built all the different sizes of the apollo 11 rocket except this one and my wife told me that's my next project lol. Any help you could give will be greatly appriciated thank you

Unfortunately I don’t have the capacity to make models for external parties.

I started printing this model and was thru with the 1st stage and there was no files to download and unzip for the rest of the rocket. Can you please tell me where these files might be located?

If I remember correctly, the parts for this model are downloaded as .rar files. You will need a program such as 7 zip to unzip them. I think you can just right click on the file and the 7 zip option comes up. If it doesn't, you may have to download it. Once you do that, you can extract all the files to a folder of your choice.

could you share the files for the stand shown at the end of the video please?

The files aren't really good enough for general release. The design is very basic and they all need to be glued together.

I'd love a 1/48 Saturn 5, to be in scale with other ones I have in that scale. I just have no experience with 3D rinter.

It would be difficult to scale it up to that size. I’m not sure the parts would fit on the printer bed.

​@modellingmisadventures they would fit if the printer was a belt style printer instead of a flatbed and the parts were laid out horizontally instead of vertically. Or just slice the parts into smaller sections to where they can fit on a print bed.

Which Saturn V has I have not found one with the docking frame yet?

It’s difficult to answer that precisely. 3D printing is not expensive but this model uses quite a lot of filament. I would guess that it cost about $80-100 Australian dollars which would be about 40-60 Great British pounds or 50-70 USD.

@@peterhill6340 would you consider manufacturing a one off example for a commision perhaps ? I cannot justify the expense of buying a 3d printer for a one off job nor learning how to use one

@@chrisedwards6881 It would probably cost you too much to consider this. The model takes an enormous amount of time to print. It would then need to be packaged up and printed. I’m not really set up to offer a commercial service. But there are companies out there that do this.

@@igor2146 I dont know exactly. I suspect between 2 and 3 Kg.

I am currently printing the same 3D model. But mine doesn't have the docking mechanism on the Command Module. I have all the main large parts printed and assembled. Saving all the rocket engines and small parts for last. Did your model also come with the Gantry files? I am going to print that also. But I would like my Command Module to have the docking mechanism. Can you help with that? This is the link to where I downloaded my files. Hi Kevin. Yes, this model came with the gantry but I haven’t made that. In order to have the command module with the docking mechanism, I think you have to look through the reprints. Somebody updated the original and added more detail.
