Space Engineers - The 'Bat'leth' Corvette & Battle Testing (Building a Fleet)
Ойындар
Back with the Building a Fleet series and another ship for the Red Team - in this case one designed to work as a counter to the existing fighters like the Rapier and Broadsword. So we take her for a little flight test before diving into a 5v1 battle to try it out properly and see how it fares in a proper fight.

The _Rapier_ looks like a Jedi Starfighter.
MP was a bit jerky but remarkably actually managed to play ball for a bit of testing :) Thanks for helping out you folks who joined me for this vid!

So are you going to build something for the UESC contest? I'm in the middle of my submission right now, i'd love to see how you tackle the build.

A cool thing I've taken to doing with Digi's wings is to place a remote control block so its forward is actually down and its up is actually forward. Control from there, kick on the thruster override, and you've got yourself pure-vanilla mouse-roll control.
Here's an idea: Create an interstellar map with different systems owned by different empires. Then hold dogfights in different maps representing those systems to see who controls what territory, until one side wins the war. You can say the number of systems you own determines the maximum mass your ship can be in a battle.
I really enjoyed this W4sted. One of my favourite things about these ships is that their designs are so abstract. You expect a ship to look a certain way and you blow peoples expectations out the water. Nice!

hehe, thanks dude :)
The dogfight was a perfect utilization of split-screen to showcase multiple POVs, kudos on that choice. :) Your editing always clarifies what can be pretty chaotic footage.
I guess that's what beacons are useful for. So you can find the rest of your fleet.
Try it again with a thruster Torque mod on, things get more interesting when loosing engines shifts the center of thrust and your ship begins to loose control as it takes damage.
Wow, strategic Ship designing in SE seems to really work, all those Combat Ship Classes we see and talk about do seem to really function the way they were designed, and the damage Effects are really really Cool! But the fire effect could be a bit more smokey IMO, Nice Vid W4sted!
I have to say that its maneuverability put me in the mind of the Millennium Falcon. Its a beast of a ship(for a fighter) and yet it floats like a leaf in the wind
Well built ship, and well composed video. Might have named it "Zweihänder," and saved "Bat'Leth" for a wider ship design.

Cheers :) I actually already have a Zweihander, why I avoided that name!
the wings should be a feature already, i wouldnt doubt it if the devs put em in. im going download the mod now lol
thumbs up for mentioning the GDI and the brotherhood of nod.
OMG they look EVEN BETTER with the new block models.
Just wow. By which I mean that early cinematic made my brain spin with the happy.
the manuverability of the Bat'leth is insane for the size of the ship :D

drk dragn ... w4sted has several small-grid-gone-wild designs like that which fly like fighters. the wing mod 8s quite powerful for that kind of thing.

Well played.
Perhaps you should make a map that helps the players know where they are and where the bounds are. You could just build towers in a ring around an area and that might work.
That was a cracking vid, looking forward to seeing more of the 'Bat'leth' battle tests mate!
Jon, you with your epic camera pans and zooms. To be honest, it already looked great in the stream. Though some of the teleporting shows that KSH still has lots to do with the MP. Despite the multi-view shots beeing a slightly bit confusing were to focus at first, it is an amazing idea and has come out great. It was informative, really good explanations about your thoughts and ideas behind the design and the cut-sections are just awesome. Redundancy really is a big issue for combat ships and vehicles. And last but not least, especially the combat test was a hell lot of fun. Thank you, Sir.
Those look amazing and created a bit of inspiration.
That's a beautiful corvette escort! Well done on the design. Thanks for sharing.
Both the ships and the editing are fantastic!
OH MY GOD he used my suggestion for the name! I am so flattered! (I know lots of other people probably suggested that name too but I'm going to ignore that so I feel special.)

@joelmulder

Its a Star Trek reference. In Star Trek, the alien species called the Klingons uses a sword like weapon called the Bat'leth, which resembles this ship cut along its long axis.

Loved the video, keep up the good work! Happy to see this series revived.
That is a nice little gunship you made there...damned tough, that's for sure.
Fun video! If the secondary pilots are reading this, thanks for e contribution.
That is darn awesome as always!
It looks like it handles much the same as the Milenium Falcon. Sharp turns, fast moving, can take a hit.
That was an awesome video. I really liked the split screen view. Please do more of these!

place a beacon on the ground somewhere to mark a combat zone and help keep from getting lost
that was awesome! great designs. it's really cool to see them go up against each other like a world war 2 air engagement
That was interesting and quite nice :) Liked the camera views
Gotta say I like how yer ships land/dock. I keep imagining them being stored in DROVES like bombs in old WW2 bombers. Just open up the fighter bay and the horde descends.
Great Video!!! Really nice editting.
Great looking ships!
great build, great team
I feel like you should have called it "Claymore" but it's still a beautify designed ship, nice job!

name is a reference to star trek
I loved the 4 povs that you had going on
Gotta say the presentation and music were very nice :3
Cool design Wasted, i was really impressed
this thing is just plain SICK!
Leave it to a fighter named after a Klingon weapon to have a lot of redundancies built in. Nice work!
So, rather than the typical expected jousting fighter at that large size, the Bat'leth is a grappler? That is just neat!
W4sted: Awesome video!!
Add more cockpits and use the extra crew for manual targeting. More accurate.
This is amazing! I want to see an MP tournament out of this!
so that's a battleship that fly's like a spitfire. nice
I can only image one of these flying into a massive furball of fighters....

love the design :)
3:34 I find it humorous that the larger ship is named after a short sword, and the smaller ship is named after a polearm.
Awesome ship, I just had to go and have a try at doing such a ship despite it being almost 10 o'clock in the evening lol. Then again it is weekend. :) I hope we will see one for yellow team too!
Pls more videos of dog battles with these amazing aerodynamics ships :D ;)
Wow!!! Awesome intro!!! :D
Actually, on another hand, I think maybe when you create the yellow team equivalent it should be called Bat'leth because based on your design aesthetic for the yellow team it'll more resemble a Bat'leth. (On top of that, this ship actually more resembles the energy swords from halo than anything else.)
I actually think that forward swept wings like on the X-29 and Su-47 fighter jets really work exactly the same way in this game. They dramatically increase handling and maneuverability, and for some reason they don't decrease the speed at all. I had a speed mod on and I basically stayed at 400 or so m/s during absolutely ridiculous turns, like 180 degrees, and barely lose any speed at all with the dampeners off. It also helps that there's barely anything there for the thrusters to propel forward.
well thats inspiering, now i know what il play tomorow
That was proper cool. Random little idea, but what about using the hull as a pocket carrier for some Rapiers?
The engine noise is atmospheric. That's a good excuse right? Coms, with a massive engine in the background.
This strikes me more of a gunship type design than a simple fighter. How it is so tough, and lacks any directly hitting powerful weapons makes me think of it as a support craft, say for providing anti-fighter support to a cruiser, or friendly carrier. I wonder how this would handle a armored player controlled "cruise missile" with a warhead trying to take it out...
W4stedSpace for space president 2020
The bilateral ships could have walls down the middle with doors to each half, and be able to split & fight, then rejoin after, or if one half survives, ply home, be mated to another 1/2.
I liked this. more of this plz
I can only imagine how hard it is to get people together for these kind of events, and multiplayer screw-ups can make for frustrating recording, so this is my standard disclaimer that you did good and I'm just trying to provide feedback. Also, I really like the commentary over the top of the fight, makes much more interesting. 13:45 and 14:09 are 2 examples of calling hits as they happen or after they happen that left me unable to find them before they were over. Not a huge issue, but filled a few of the more dramatic moments with glancing around to figure out which screen they were on. 16:32 you can see that they turn on their HUD and they have power and no gyroscopes, but this is just nitpicky. That bit was cool either way. Software might limit you here, but the Gladius screen remaining active distracted me, especially when I was already looking around (see above). Nothing happened on that screen post-crash besides around 14:44 (a few explosions in the sky) that I noticed. Fading this to black (and eg. if possible, sliding the Glaive #3 cam to bottom center) would have been less distracting and alleviated some of the issues locating the action.

I'm actually surprised more didn't have that sorta criticism tbh, although I did try full-screening some of the PoV's at times to draw attention it was crazy jarring! Good point about the dead PoV though!
Looks beefy and yet fast as hell. Nice!! Have you considered making more escort-esq ships? Like the Blacksmith??
since the batleth can act as a fighter in fleet composition you want lots of them. add front facing missiles and then its a bomber too
The Broadsword really reminds me of the Vanu Scythe from Planetside 2.
So how committed are you to having the Bat'eth as a single person ship as given its size and the turret accuracy issues a gunner sounds like a good idea.
The next ship you should make is a carrier like ship that can carry multiple fighters of yours
How does The Bat'leth handle against the yellow team carrier plus its ships or the Blacksmith with its rapiers? Does the Bat'leth serve well in taking out the carriers and their fighters or are the carriers to well equipped?

Good question!
Beautiful mate just fucking beautiful.
why not put a beacon on the ground to narrow down the battlespace to a specific area?
amazing stuff.. should have left me to play the broadsword , not sure things would have been the same hehehe ( w4sted and the hitbox peoples will get it )
I'd like to see a bat'leth for the spear team (Gungnir would be good name!) then actually have a dogfight Gungnir Vs Bat'Leth with a full escort. But S.E MP would probably freak at that still :P
Awesome! I wish multiplayer was as smooth for me as it is for you. ^^ Still, amazing ship. Definitely a counter! So resilient. -_I'll Be Watching, Friend._
I'd love to see these ships in Captain Jack's Colony Lost series!
The Freelancers need more ships.

Speaking of Freelancer, some of that game's designs were interesting. Not so much the default falcon stuff, but the British/German and Japanese stuff somewhat, as well as the Outcast fighters.

Need more homing torpedo festivals! like the khopesh battles
looks like a battle axe instead of a bat'leth. sweet design.

Bane BlackGuard also the yellow bomber
I cried when he brought up c&c.
you really should get all the ships together and have a big battle, that is if, of course, you build a yellow corvette
looks awesome wasted. I'll have to give it a spin later. quick question though, how did you get those spinning shots of the ships? kinda looks lie you had it in a seperate program from SE.
shack and morph should make their own ships of like what you have; a fighter, a corvette, a frigate etc as you have this style, the other 2 have very different styles but with the creations you and them make, you should test apon who makes the best ships and who is the winner of battle and style
For more speed you could use sage's industrial thrusters!
This stuff is dope! Join the UEC SE challenge so you can win!

Noahdaceo been there, won that
so i gotta ask how you intended for this to be landed or docked ive tried everything to land it without crashing and short of alterning the design to have a vert takeoff mode i cant get it to land
Would it be possible to modify the blacksmith to be able to carry two of these frigates with it and then show a kind of symposium on a full red Fleet attack with the blacksmith rapiers and broadswords along with these frigates on like a base or something
I mean I love videos like that
Just tuned in to your project showcast, and i gotta say: Nice Job Sir! Intressting Design on those Fighters. Though i have to ask: the Rapier being a light fighter... will be the Broadsword be classified as a heavy fighter, because of the slightly bigger size? And will it be possible to call the Bat'leth a "Siege Fighter", because of the ability to "broadside" with its turrets on the bottem and top side, while angled? I mean to ask just out of curiousity! :)
You should fly these with the physics mods like deadly reentry and realistic thruster offset
Did you import the ingame models into an external program to do the intro shots or did you do everything ingame? If ingame - How?!
is it strange that i was thinking of building fighters with a similar design to yours
Why don't you have one or more beacons or antennae marking an area to make finding each other a bit easier?
Okay now I'm excited to see the yellow team version of this, and what it's name will be (I mean how many sci fiction culture blades are out there?) (((also why are your carrier ships still no called "Sheaths" and "Scabbards" I thought you liked that idea)))
It's worth noting that, for most ships, ramming is a suicide attack.
