Space-Age Tactical Textiles: Ferro Concepts Bison Belt! [Review]

Спорт

While the concept of the gun belt has been around almost as long as there have been gun slingers, the design has largely remained unchanged during modern times. Large, often cumbersome subloads generally required heavy duty materials and stitching to maintain rigidity - but recent advancements in textile science has made the bulky battle belt a thing of the past!

5:29 I remedied the holster belt mount looseness on my bison belt by placing zip ties on the lower part of the slots, where the belt feeds through, which eliminated the wiggle room and gives me a more solid draw.

Watched several videos on belts using the same type of length adjustment on the left-side buckle. Over and over again, people just do some crazy loose bundles out of that extra webbing. But. First, you can safely cut a lot of it out if you aren't planning on gaining much more waist circumference. Second, you can use wide OneWrap hook&loop strap to wind that loose end around it starting from the actual end, then wrap the OneWrap around the belt. This way, nothing is going to dangle or catch on anything.

    @dad2022

    2 жыл бұрын

Oh they’re similar alright…GBRS used the bison belt…until they parted ways and “created” a belt of their own. They used exactly the same material & to avoid a lawsuit they cut Tegris into squares vs circles…and flipped the Velcro around for “tactical” reasons…(but to realistically avoid getting sued)…then Slade quit GBRS…wait for it…because one of HIS ideas was also “borrowed” by one of the GBRS guys…just like Ferro experienced. Lame business practices. Watch for gbrs to produce a plate carrier soon…that will look amazingly similar to another one currently on the market.

The GBRS is a remade Ferro they used to work together split and GBRS made square cuts and reversed the hook and loop for copyright stuff, but the assaulter does have a true 2 in size which is nice plus the sizing system is rock solid whereas the ferro can slip a little which is pretty easy to deal with tbh its up to you but the gbrs revered hook and look can mess up ur clothing. I have no clue how well the Axl performs though.

I've been using mine for a few months now in private security (10-14hr shifts wearing it), I love it, but it has some issues that bug me. Like the inner belt is a smaller width, so you have the excess hook side destroying/fraying your pants. Also the inner belt's connection point is pretty small and takes some finesse to get the small hook into the small loop. And lastly the Velcro tab that keeps the excess tail length down just shreds it. I hate loose and free hook end Velcro rubbing on anything, it's going to fray it and eventually weaken the hooks. I'm still happy with the belt overall, it's amazingly thin and rigid.

  • @MobileAura

I'd love to see a side by side of the Ferro and GBRS belts. I own both and am hard pressed to find faults in either system that would put one above the other. GBRS seems like a sturdier mounting solution, but is it necessary for non-duty use? Also go with the True North MHA for the blaster. A touch heavier, but way better connection.

Question: how was ordering your belt size with Ferro and GBRS? For some reason the picture for ordering ON FERROs website is so small I can’t read it, nor enlarge the photo with my phone. @@SONofLIBERTY I wear a 34-36 waist pants and got a Medium in Ferro because I was right on the line. I think you could have up to a 36-38 waist and still have enough slack for a Medium. The GBRS I got a Small/Medium and the logo patch is almost in the way of my True North MHA (so not a lot of room to mount thing forward of your holster unless it is velcro based mounting), BUT I would be afraid to go up to the Large/Xtra Large.

  • @theycallmesteven29

@@SONofLIBERTY So I wear a 34-36 waist pants and got a Medium Ferro. There is enough extra that I think you could be a 36-38 waist and make it work. For the GBRS I got a Small/Medium and the logo panel on my V1 is right at my True North MHA. That means no mounting of things in front of my holster unless it is velcro based attachment method. The V2 looks like they might have fixed that with the shorter logo area. The GBRS has way less wiggle room than the Ferro, and for the price I would go with the Ferro. The inner belt thing with the GBRS is more of a pain in the ass than it is revolutionary. Hope that helps.

I don’t know about running pistol mags on the belt. If you have a rifle, that’s your primary, and reloads will always be faster from the belt. So I prefer two rifle mags there. Your pistol is only a stop-gap for jams, so ideally you never use it. If you do use it, you’re going right back to your rifle, and speed reloads aren’t as key. If they are, you’ve already experienced two pretty major issues in a row.

For me personally, it's a good way to maximize the amount of things I can do with one platform as I primarily am using the belt for work (ie PPT videos). It's nice to have the option to run rifle, pistol, or PCC stick mags there without changing stuff around, if that makes sense 🤙

So are you saying that nobody should run pistol mags on their belts and only stick to rif? I have the same theory as you… what if the rif breaks tho? Is that even possible is there such a thing as a malfunction that can’t be cleared? Should I be running pis mags on my plate carrier instead, at least one? And why two rif mags on the belt and not just one? I’m thinking one mag on the belt, two on the plate carrier, one in the back pocket (apex pants) and one in the stick. 😳 that way you have the weight spread out and you have quick access in an emergency to the one on your belt, but don’t need 2 on belt.

@@MobileAura pros that know more than me still run pistols mags on their belt, but I think my comment above is worth considering. There are tough jams like double feeds or cases that didn’t extract and get turned the opposite way, but in a quality rifle that is well maintained with quality ammo these are rare. Again, true pros may still argue with me, but if you picked good gear, your rifle is always the more capable option, so I want to prioritize its use and move extra pistol mags to my plate carrier or more awkward positions than that prime 3’oclock belt real estate ;)

@@ParrotTactical so if I’m using the most expensive top-of-the-line rounds (Barnes 110) in my brand new psa 300, with everything totl. Will I have any issues that can easily be cleared within the first 500 rounds coming out of it? In my case should I be worried? What are the chances of a barrel failing with only 500 rounds going through it? OK so I will just put this angled kywi mag on my pc then? I just want to know that everything will work if I need it to I’m kind of new to this stuff, your channel is one of a kind. 😳

I really like the idea but it seems like you're paying $100 for the actual belt and another $100 for the Ferro name
