Fun fact: The term "Fun Fact" became popularized being used by Dave Letterman in the 1980's during his "Late Night" skits (though its use initiated in print by Wrigley's chewing gum in the 1970's)! 😉

I played this game in LASER DISC arcade original in 86-87 here in my city Malaga - Spain (recreational salon)

When I used play this game in the arcade they had a screen on top of game so when you played the game other people can see you play

Ace resembles the faces of the protagonists of id Software's Wolfenstein 3D and Doom games.

I agree compared 2 the shitty game concepts nowadays!!

So many memories. If you really wanted a challenge you would play all the way through as young Dexter... until the final battle of course where you could only fend off Borf until you HAD to change.

I was coming in the live stream on July 26th!!!!

Odd and interesting how the soundtrack to each level is one continuous piece that can ONLY be heard in totality by playing first the Ace trunk then the Dexter branch in sequence. Would be cool to hear the entire soundtrack in its entire continuity without all the sound effects. One can dream.

I wish that was possible, unfortunately it seems that the music master tape rotted away and the track no longer exists except in the game. I am working on removing the vocals and sound effects, it's not the best though.

Y'know, given how the Space Station has two platforms on each side, and one of the deaths consists of colliding with neither of them, AND there's footage of Dexter landing in both of them (despite the fact he supposedly never even left the station in the first place before landing a second time and that he'd chase after Borf if he did) I'd assume the original concept was that you'd be able to choose where you wanted to go, either the maintenance tunnels with the guards and the electric tubes or the open area with the floating platforms and the laser spheres.

Not sure about the official roms but the enhanced rom has something like that, but it just changes the order of the scenes.

Would make sense, considering that in the original "Dragon's Lair" prototype, you were, as the ad for DL 3-D put it, "free to roam about the castle." I'd think that Rick Dyer might've wanted to try that concept again here with "Space Ace," as laserdisc access speeds had improved by them. (At least he got to try out the idea with "Thayer's Quest," where you can select where to go on the Kingdom map!) 🙂

@@larkefedifero yeah, it would've been cool to be able to choose our routes. After the choice on the space station, it would be cool if you could choose the order of the planets you visit! Ah, Thayer's Quest! I was always fascinated with that one! Too bad the original arcade game was never quite finished... but at least its remake for home consoles, Kingdom: The Far Reaches, did get a sequel with the rest of the story, Kingdom: Shadoan. I still think Thayer's Quest is a cooler name tho.

thats how they get you to put in more quarters to throw you off ! you get used to it one way and then the next time you come back to play it might do the mirror FLIPPED as you say ! unpredictable ! so you spend more quarters to practice it in both directions

There should be a "Space Ace" crossover with HBO's "Dexter" - where Dexter and Dexter travel across the galaxy as part of some intergalactic police force, offing deadly baddies like "Borf" and "Darth Vader." And in each unique episode, either the public wouldn't notice what covertly had happened OR would be extremely grateful and relieved when made aware of the beneficial deeds they had done! 😊

I love playing this game I always turn Borf into a baby I like the music techno music
