æspa producers answer your questions about the making of hit track ‘SAVAGE'!

Ойын-сауық

How did the phrase "Oh my gosh! Don't you know I'm a Savage" come to be? What was the hardest part of writing this song? How much creative freedom did the producers have? We reached out to MYs on Twitter to see what questions they had about 'Savage' and asked aespa's producers those questions!

This is very common tho. Songs were produced and made and they're not always gonna be released at the time of production. Sometimes SM just kept all those songs for future release to see which artists can use it in the future. For example, Red Velvet's Zimzalabim was produced in 2016 around the same time as Russian Roulette and there were debate whether it should be in their EP at the time Another example is that, not all songs made with certain artists in mind are gonna end up with that song. NCT DREAM Chewing Gum and EXO Ko Ko Bop was originally for Red Velvet

It is the least surprising thing ever to hear that SM will have a team make a song then randomly have some other producer make a part (like the bridge) on his/her own and then they just use it. Lol. That's how you end up with these Kpop songs (esp SM songs) that sound like 3-4 different songs pieced together into one song.

What I love about this is that they piece together songs and OWN IT. Sure, there are elements that definitely makes you think like "Oh, this sounds like an SM song" but it's so distinct for one group which makes it unique. Lately, a lot of 4th Gen sounds quite similar to some other groups already existing. It is kinda disappointing coz a lot of the idols really have good vocal styles but it's being wasted by the company's choice of music.

As a Korean and light listener of Kpop, this is really cool and educational(?) for me to understand the producing process of songs from one of the major Kpop entermaintment companies! I've been always wondering how SM and other companies get to create a title track with non-Korean(or Kpop )songwriters and this is it!! It is great to know that the songwriters had their moment and could liberate themsleves while writing a song of Kpop genre. (which can be ANYTHING lol) Thank you for the interview Umu!!!

I think everything SM does is well planned. Whether it's a group, song, concept and others. Take EXO for example. Lee Soo man had planned to form the group EXO when he was young, when he was still a radio announcer in 1976. And I'm not surprised if Aespa and other SM groups are already planned before their debut year.
