SP80 - THE BOAT DESIGNED TO BREAK THE WORLD SAILING RECORD

Спорт

FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY
After our concept for the world sailing speed record, it’s time to unveil the real boat!
If the vision remains the same, our boat is slightly different from the initial concept.

    Glad to see your concept get realistic before real craft are produced. I don't see any detail of the water foil or it's control mechanism. Does it automatically adjust to counter kite altitude? Is the foil super-cavitating? The kite you show still looks very conventional, but your velocity and loading will be much greater. Will this craft need support to get started?

  • @sp80record

    Thank you for your interest! ➡️ About the control mechanism, our power module constantly aligns the kite’s force pulling up with the foil pulling down. It’s a purely mechanical system, as according to the record’s rules, we cannot have electronic on board. ➡️ The foil is not super-cavitating but super-ventilating, if you’re interested you’ll find more details here : sp80.ch/finding-our-vision-in-an-ocean-of-possibilities/ or here in video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f22WsLZ6obmah6w.html ➡️ About the kite, our boat can reach high speeds with a quite conventional one, however you’re right: - we will have big loads - our R&D team is working a lot on kites to adapt their structures to our record conditions 🤫 ➡️ About the support, the record rules are very clear: we cannot help our pilots during the run, however we can intervene before and after the run. We will thus be able to launch the kite (for example from a platform our with motorboats) before taking the run 🚀 Also, if you want to know even more about the project, we are doing a KZread live on Wednesday at 18pm. You're welcome to join and ask our co-founders anything about the boat 😉

    Nice look but in my opinion it seems like the wings should have been swept forward to counteract the heeling moment from the kite. I think there is high risk of flipping or sway. Is there a proven scaled prototype?

  • @sp80record

    In fact, the kite is at the back to ensure stability. To counteract the heeling moment, we have a power module constantly aligning the kite’s force with the foil’s force ➡️ no heeling moment 💪🏼 We actually validated this setup on our scaled prototype if you want to check it out 😉 : kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2iHlqOgYdmrp6Q.html

  • @sp80record

    @sp80record

    2 жыл бұрын

    Bonjour Florian, ce choix a été fait principalement pour assurer la sécurité des pilotes! Pour accélérer jusqu’à 150km/h, il faut qu’ils soient en confiance, ce qui est difficile en navigant de biais. Le risque à 80 noeuds sur l’eau en travers est également d’avoir beaucoup de casse sur le bateau en cas de crash. De plus, le gain de traînée que nous aurions pu avoir en nous alignant avec le vent apparent est faible et reste peu significatif par rapport à la traînée de nos foils. La deuxième raison, c’est que nous voulons garder l’option de pouvoir naviguer sur les deux bords (en dehors des tentatives de record, car le bateau sera plus performant sur un bord), ou de pouvoir changer de lieu pour les runs 💪🏼

    c'est le truc magique des voiles, c'est que la vitesse au sol peut être plus rapide que la vitesse du vent. Du coup, pas besoin de 150km/h de vent. Sinon, il me semble qu'ils voulaient aller réaliser leurs essaies en mer du côté de Narbonne.

  • @albertterrano4654

    @albertterrano4654

    Ben justement, y a rien de magique là dedans , et selon ma compréhension, il n y a aucun intérêt à vouloir aller vite avec ce genre de truc tracté parce qu'on ne peut justement pas bénéficier de la combinaison du vent vrai et de la vitesse du bateau pour obtenir un vent apparent largement supérieur au vent vrai . Un kite ne peut que subir la poussée du vent vrai , comme un IMOCA en vent arrière ... Un IMOCA peut doubler ou tripler sa vitesse par rapport au vent vrai parce qu'en se mettant au 90-120°C du vent vrai, il obtient une composante avec sa vitesse autour de 40060 degrés la plus forte et efficace pour avancer. Et ca fonctionne parc q'il y a une dérive profonde pour empecher de glisser en crabe. @@timothee.gigout-magiorani

    @timotheegigout-magiorani4993 a raison: il est possible d'aller beaucoup plus vite que le vent à la voile 😇 Notre bateau pourra aller environ 3 fois plus vite que le vent. Si vous souhaitez en savoir plus, il y a par exemple cette vidéo qui explique assez rapidement comment c'est possible : kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4x2ychwfcezobw.html Il nous faudra quand même des conditions spécifiques pour le record: un vent de terre très stable, assez fort et peu de vagues. Ces conditions sont réunies très souvent du côté de Leucate dans le sud de la France et c'est là que nous allons nous baser pour naviguer 🤗

    Indeed, going 80 knots with only wind power is exciting and could be used to produce energy. For now, we are focused on the record, but we have a team of passionate engineers who would like to apply what we have learned here in a project dedicated to environmental issues (such as goods transportation or energy production). This would not be a side project but rather a new project after the record, so we haven't defined anything yet: lots of things are possible!

    @@philippesser9187 Wind vehicle speed records tend to be reaching perpendicular to the wind because going down wind quickly diminishes apparent wind speed and going up wind directly takes away apparent wind angle. Pour battre le record du monde de vitesse à la voile, les conditions idéales sont un plan d’eau très plat avec le moins de vagues possible et un vent très stable. On trouve généralement ces conditions le long d’une côte sans relief avec un vent de terre. Dans le monde, certains spots sont renommés pour fréquemment rassembler ces conditions, comme Leucate en France, Luderitz ou Walvis Bay en Namibie ou encore Sandy Point en Australie. C'est donc vers ces spots que nous nous orientons 🤗

    Nowadays, the definition of a sailboat is becoming more and more questionable, especially with the developments of new rigs like the wings on the Cup or SailGP. A boat powered by a kite is considered to be a sailboat and can therefore claim to break the world sailing speed record. You can find the record rules on the WSSRC website (www.sailspeedrecords.com/) It is also worth noting that kite racing is now an Olympic discipline, managed by the World *Sailing* Federation (www.sailing.org/classes/ika-formula-kite/) 😉
