    hi! i have a question: basically i've been making soy wax candles with a bit of coloring and essential oils (such as patchouli and clove) and i tried topping them with dried flowers and small gemstones (such as quartz or mokaite) and each candle i made had a problem with having a very small flame.. at first i thought it was because my container was too big for a single wick but then i made very small candles and they have had the same problem.. is it possible that the stones and flowers are actually drowning out the flame? or anything else? i need help :(( i really want to make spiritual candles but i can't seem to get the technique right :((

    Hi Eja, thanks so much for reaching out. This is indeed a difficult one as the answer can't be pinned down to just one reason - it could be an interplay of a couple of things. First off let me say that I went through about 30 tests before I discovered the 'perfect' wick, jar, wax, dye and fragrance combination. A couple of tips that I can share: 1. make sure the stones and decorations are not cloging the wick (less is more in this case) 2. same for the dye and fragrance - find out what is the maximum fragrance load for your wax and try using that same exact amount or less (ex. C3 nature wax can hold up to 6% of fragrance not more). 3. are you using a good wick for your type of wax? - reasearch on that 4. what is the diameter of your jar and what diameters are recommended for the wick you are using - try testing the recommended size wick for the diameter of the jar as well as a size bigger and smaller 5. and most importantly - don't give up. It is just a matter of time till you find the perfect fit. much success and joy on your candle making journey!

    Hi Kiecia, thank you for your question. We have a video up about learning to measure out the wax you need. I use this formula to find out how much wax flakes I need to fill a particular jar: JAR SIZE - 20% OF THE JAR SIZE = AMOUNT OF WAX YOU NEED TO FILL THE JAR. ex. 350ml - 20% of 350ml = the correct weight of flakes: 350ml - 70ml = 280ml/g once you calculated the weight (280g) you will take that number to calculate the fragrance percentages. ....hope this makes sense otherwise I will make a video to explain. much success and fun!

  • @keepupthegoodness

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Marisa, there is always some risk connected with adding items to the candle. I prefer to use very little flowers and not put them directly near the flame to minimize the danger. once the pedles are immersed in the wax the ods get lower that something could happen. when using crystals make sure to use those that have a very high melting point. that reduces the danger. never leave your candle unattended and follow propper candle care and burning instructions.

  • @keepupthegoodness

    @keepupthegoodness

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Sara, thank you for your lovely message and the very good question. From my personal experience..I would advise to use glas rather than plastic. The reason being that plastic (depending which sort) is likely to melt in the flame but maybe even in the hot wax pool. There may be a pontential release of fumes from the plastic which i would advise to avoid. Another alternative is sugar like suger beads or cake decorations. ..but even with those I would be careful. If you plan on selling your candles the determining factor will be your product liability insurance - where you will need to clarify if the insurance will cover the product including decorations. From an insurance perspective any added decoration to the candle other than wax means a potential hasard. But please don't let this message discourage you in your creative process. Always continue being creative, continue evolving your craft and keep the goodness coming! If you r interested we r planning the next video about candle testing and candle safety coming soon - some lessons learned on the journey.. Wishing you a marvellous day and thank you for reaching out.
