“The secret garden bloomed and bloomed and every morning revealed new miracles.” - Frances Hodgson Burnett
Hello Wildflowers! In this episode of 'The Rambling Rose' we’ll be pottering around my cottage garden, harvesting some peculiar purple veggies, and sowing a whole bunch of flower seeds in the hopes of creating a magical secret garden this summer, overflowing with flowers to bring myself, and the faeries, so much joy. As always, we’ll take inspiration from the garden and paint a few more pages for my new book ‘Wild Faerie Magick’.
I so hope you will enjoy the video!

When my grandmother planted new plants, she would put them into the hole and hold her hands over them and ‘wish them good will’ before she filled in the hole around them. She learned it from her grandmother ❤

Lovely to see you, so enjoy your posts, I’m also an artist and Gardner, not very structured lol. Thank you, that's so sweet. I will certainly call on the faeries to protect the little duckling. It reminds me of a nursery rhyme my mother used to sing to me, about five little ducks that went out 'over the hill and faraway'. It was beautiful but sad, do you know the one?

Oh Nancy, this was such a gorgeous video! You are fast becoming a new favourite of mine on here - have been watching your videos over and over because they are just so sweetly made and I just adore the beautiful connection you have to your garden and watching you paint is just mesmerizing! Inspires me to try it myself! Really look forward to seeing your new garden space come to life - that illustrated garden plan is really beautiful, especially the moon garden idea and how you are combining the colours of the flowers - think I might try something similar! I too am about to sow lots and lots of beautiful flower seeds and have a wonderfully exciting plan for a butterfly garden, full of food for the monarch caterpillar and butterfly. I'm really excited to see it come together. Thank you for such a lovely video to watch while I sipped my chamomile tea. Cannot wait for the next one!! xxxx much love

I *LOVED* The Secret Garden (and A Little Princess) when I was young. Embarrassingly I found a long white lacy cotton nightdress and would wear it every night, imagining I was an Edwardian orphan 😅 I was just googling when to spray our nectarines for curly leaf - I gave them a go with organic lime sulpher when they were in bud, but we’ve still ended up with a little bit, And the gardening blog I found, someone recommended “when the temperatures get to X… or for an easier way to remember, when the robins start returning to your garden after winter, because they know which bugs are hatching”. I love this. And your style of intuitive gardening, letting your garden speak to you. Thank you for reminding to plant some sunflowers, like daffodils I always admire when they flower, but forget to plant in their season. “The seed never sees the flower”. Loved this video!

I've been borrowing a Sony a7ii mirrorless camera (and otherwise just using my iPhone!). It is nice, but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner, as I find the auto focus really fussy and the whole thing highly technical.
