Excellent tutorial for the people that need it, when people ask about Soviet batteries on streams I can direct them here now. Funnily regarding the bulbs I have done the same thing with one of my MD-3 meters, I replaced the dim incandescent with a 3V Green LED and then used an AA to D adaptor with a similar 3.7V short battery in it held in place with foil. The MD3 is really easy to read in the dark now and as the bulb uses a separate circuit there's no risk of overvolting the instrument itself.

Cheers, the bulbs in the MD-3 and the older variant are TERRIBLE. I know the technical limitations of the day meant they had to use the little pigmy bulbs but the light output is pitiful.
Man this is so cool. Now I can have the correct battery look. Thanks.
I have about 10 geiger counters 2 of which are DP-5Bs and this video is a great help for finding more accurate batteries. Thank you so much.
Awesome video! Ive got the adapters made for my dp-5v to use the regular AA batteries, but ill have to buy one of these batteries now that I know its really easy to do!
I live in Russia and I make KB-1 batteries for my dosimeters in the same way :)
I needed this video!
Having been born under sssr, I definitely remember the taste of these 4.5V battery terminals :) Glad both are gone
Brilliant video very handy that there are options for these older and somewhat obsolete batteries since most originals most likely are a very poor gamble.
Thanks for the information
I've made adapters for the DP-5A batteries to convert the units to AA standard
I just bent the terminals and used cardboard to hold it in place and it worked fine
BTW, here is the link for STL file yadi.sk/d/jyEkjCfrRJdwww it's an adaptor for AA batteries to use in DP-5V.
Would you mind leaving a link to the image of the Repro housing? I'd like to make some myself.

Link is now in the description!
Are you going to do a video on the DP-5a?

A ‘review’ video? I had planned to but never really got around to making one.
Msy I ask how do I remove the two terminals/prongs on the left and right cells, just rip It off or should I do something else?

I just cut them off, if you have nothing to cut them with then you can (with a bit of wriggling) pull them off too.

@@SurvivingTheApocalypse Alright, I see. Thank you very much!
I have designed a 3d printable adapter to use AA batteries in my DP-5B. Its muuuuch cheaper than buying an overpriced a 4,5V battery

Would you post it on pinshape? It would be very helpful because I can’t find any batteries for these Geiger counters.

@@person98 Somebody has made a much nicer design than me in the meantime. The STL files can be found in the video description of a video on KZread called "Geiger Counter 3D printed Battery Adaptor" by a channel called "Surviving the Apocalypse".

@@SurvivingTheApocalypse Its difficult to keep up with comments on different channels. Btw, that adapter is the only reason my DP-5V is usable. Thanks for that
Hi, do u have instagram or something?
