    Is it weird that I am right handed but since I skateboarded and surfed (goofy footed) with my right foot in the front boxing southpaw feels 1000x more comfortable for me. Even punching, doing a 1-2 a couple of times feels more powerful than boxing orthodox, I feel like when I stand orthodox, my feet, body, and hands are just out of a whack.

    If you’re a new fighter, putting the right front feels good because you’re still a one-armed fighter. Once you have 2 good arms, you may prefer your dominant hand in the back. But hey, keep doing whatever you want. As long as you’re winning, no one can say you’re wrong.

    Beginners are one-handed so they might feel better with the dominant hand in front. But once you develop 2 hands, it’s probably better with the dominant hand in the back. You can read my guide about why that is.

    It’s normal for beginners to put the strong hand in front because they’re still one-armed fighters. When you’re a 1-arm fighter, you have no skills or experience and leave your dominant arm in front where it has a better chance of scoring. But once you have two well-trained arms, you realize the front arm is better for weaker “setup” punches with the weak arm and the back arm is better for stronger “knockout” punches with the strong arm. Listen to your goddamn coach.

    I'm left handed through and through a gun is the only thing I use from the right. I do that so shells don't kick me in the neck or face. I jab with my right and also use my right as a measuring stick. I could never imagine getting off a quick left handed jab. I keep my left drawn back so far that if I ever tried to jab with it anyone could see it coming a year away.

  • @gavinmoody5678

    @gavinmoody5678

    11 ай бұрын

    Also want to add I could never in my life imagine trying to fight from orthodox I can't torque as much power out my torso and hips drawn back with my right. I no nothing about boxing but figured that another reason you didn't really mention for having left foot and arm drawn back for left handers is because of weight behind your hit. You can literally throw your body weight into a hit but you better connect or you're exposed to the whole world and then some.

  • @expertboxing

    @expertboxing

    11 ай бұрын

    The more your left sucks, the more it belongs in front. If your left isn't fast enough to jab, it definitely won't be fast enough as a rear cross. You shouldn't be "throwing" your weight into any shot, to the point that you risk being countered. If you don't know boxing, go to a gym and let a coach correct you instead of you trying to correct yourself with self-made theories.

    Most beginners are because their non-dominant arm feels much too weak to land anything. And their dominant arm feels too far and untrained to land anything from the rear as well. Especially if they’re naturally slow…so then the only way they ever land anything is putting their dominant arm in front.

    Pushing people to make them off balance might be illegal in the amateurs. In pro boxing, it's a good tactic you do it when you're posting your jab. It's good against primarily power punchers as it throws their momentum off, and they can't sit down on punches.
