Let's all agree and say that SU's band director is a super hero!

All I have to say is thanks to all of you who made this happen. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The marching bands MAKE Mardi Gras!! Two superb bands with superb performances. LOVE it!!

I had no idea about Talledega College but we need to make sure we invite them to a few SWAC battle of the bands. Them boys can hold their weight!!

talledega loud but southern plays way more advanced in the arrangements of the songs ..

2019 still look at battle. Was Awesome. Su arrangements are the truth. TC played to crowd and had nuts to stand up to Su. The winner is the City of New Orleans. Wannnnnnnn!!!

SU fan here TC cranked Happy, don't sleep on TC, cuz with only 2 years under their belt to be able to last 4 songs against Southern was impressive. Watch them at 10 years. Talk about a killer.

Its not a miracle playboy...that's work and dedication.... you said it already....mfs aren't seeing that this is the newest addition to the band world and they are taking on titans....that is heart... also, its always good to have an event like this with this many people and not be looked upon in a negative persona. That's a beautiful thing. Much respect to everyone who attended and these to organizations.

Mane I was in 9th grade when this happened, still one the best battles I’ve seen b/c ion care Whatchu say dega was wit smoke on they li debut. SU for the win but dega was throwing haymakers the entire battle n connecting. Crazy how this helped change the band landscape forever.

The more I watch this battle I see that SU fans have a hard time seeing another band going hard at SU so they can't give props to the other band! This was a classic battle no matter who you thought won!

Hip Hop is killing marching bands. There is nothing to arrange anymore. Modern music lacks song structure conducive to marching bands.

Joe I'm going to have to agree with you 100% modern-day rap have no musical construction whatsoever therefore in my opinion it kind of makes some of the 5th quarters boring because all of the rap today is so repetitive.

I know this is an old comment, but I agree. The rap of the early 2000's was still serviceable with the offerings from "Outkast" and the like being especially conducive to full band arrangements. A lot of The current stuff is almost anti-melodic in structure making it almost impossible to identify when played by the band, usually necessitating extensive use of vocals to help clue the audience into what they are listening to. That being said I anticipate a Renaissance of sorts within the next decade that will reintroduce melodic elements (look at "uptown funk" as a Pop oriented precursor).

For it to even be a question about who win shows that Talladega has come a long way only having a band program and if Talladega had been a program for a couple more years of course they would of won... You wouldn't expect a high school basket ball player to beat and NBa player but if the score was 76 to 75 that says something huh?

This battle was EPIC! I have to say that SU took this one hands down. SU had better intonation and better arrangements. But TC held up though, they showed they wasn't no punks...

I've participated in 2 band camps at SU in the 90's and love my SU band. But Talladega held it down 💯 👏🏾

TD's arrangements made for the notes to be played louder. Its not very difficult to play the songs loud when you playing the same two or three notes over and over again as loud as you can. Great battle never the less.

Ok I was there live one of the best bands moments ever. TC was the crowd pleaser, very loud, B-tones were eating but its a difference between being loud and having power, balance, & blend. What ppl dont realize is that you can be louder than Southern but the way they shit is written YOU WONT WIN!!! Thats what JSU tried to do "OUT BLOW SU"....SOUTHERN have best arrangements in the history of HBCU thats why they been dominating the SWAC FOR SO LONG.... VERY GREAT BATTLE THO MUST RESPECT TO TC ONLY TWO YEARS BUT YOU HAVE TO FIND YOUR OWN IDENTITY..... SU TOOK THE W!!!

Ahh I miss the pre covid days 😭

I have only seen TC a few times, and SU a ton over the years. I have to say that TC definitely held their own, and then some in this head to head with SU. For the tradition that SU brings to the fight, I have to tip my hat to TC in this one. I was really impressed with the product from TC, great job. The overall blend of TC was done well.

Nice battle but Southern won this battle and still reign as the Kings. TC good but they definitely need to work on their intonation issues. TC started out strong but they ran out of good songs after about 20 minutes. They started to play George Michael, Billy Ocean, etc. Also they write all their arrangements on that SU style and sound and that's why they get, it sound like SU all the time. I give TC props for trying to dethrone the reigning kings but they lost this battle. They still have a long way to go and it's not to late for them to work on their own style. They will never beat Southern at their own style. Good battle though. Thanks Garrett for your continued effort to bring us good videos of our bands. Appreciate you alot man.

Southern lunches a guided missile at Talladega and they respond with M-16. If you don't hear the difference in musicianship and difficulty in arrangements then you want be able to judge.

I Glad they used all those tubas in I Got 5 on it! Both bands did Great I was glad when I could figure out what each band was playing. I'm very keen on music but a few had me wondering on both sides. But I still enjoyed every bit!

I hope to TC at Su again I'm sure SU won't come underman again... Lesson was learned here on this day.

Both bands had it on their mind. Difference in musicianship, style, sound and arrangements will continue to make these battles interesting.

TC was able to hold they own. To say nobody really heard of this college before & didnt even know they had a band. They came for SU neck and was able to stand the winds and the rain.

Su won good battle its good to see that everybody is having fun tc tbonds sounds good su bass is rolling

The problem with most SU faithful is that they simply refuse to believe that another band can rival them. In all fairness to them though, it very seldom happens,..including this battle. I've never heard of TC and even though they stood there ground I would hardly award them the win here. I'm by no means a Jukebox fan but will give credit where it's due. Also, it's easy be a loud, strong band. If they want to be considered on the same level as SU lets see them on the field to see what kind of halftime performance they can muster.

Saw Talladega when they came to Memphis for the SHC. They held their own and then some. Great job and even better battle

I just wanted to say that this was a GREAT battle! For anyone just to go toe to with SU with song selection is a task in itself. I have been a SU fan for years, this isn't the best SU but the are very good, and Talladega hung in there with the volume, range, all that! On a I think I would have to give the battle to SU overall. BUT.........Don't get it twisted, Talladega came up over night and to be in the ring with SU is a victory

Dang I think I'd actually have to give the W to Dega. Su was definitely winning in the beginning but towards the end you could hear the fatigue in Su's playing definitely on holy grail. And side note it's nice to see all those song selection ppl that love to judge bands on song selection are absent from the comments when Su played idgaf and neck in this battle lol

I would fly my wife and son from Florida just to see how intense a battle can get at TG. But I'm an old head and really enjoyed those battles at Pan Am as a kid. Or have it at Behrman stadium. and set it up like the Reed Carver battle in 2002.

Ok tell me this why is SU Trumpets constantly Tensing up when they get to the high notes. Problem i am seeing is that they are blowing but they really pushing too much through causing the sound to be tight and not balance. Same goes with TC.
