Southern Pacific Railroad on Beaumont Hill in July of 1994
In July of 1994 my friend Walt and I visited California to do some railfanning. This is the first of two videos I am producing of our trip. The next video will be of the SP and ATSF on Cajon Pass. Hope you enjoy.

And to think there are now houses scattered all over those mountains, all the locos are either scrapped(minus some of the ac44's) or tagged with graffiti, and all those signal bridges are long gone lol. I do miss 90s and early 2000s railroading though, it was definitely a great fun time.
SP was a great railway to watch in its day.
I operated the 9742 on the point of the Coast Starlight out of LA. Ran like a scalded hound! That's what AMT needed, a couple of hundred of them!
This takes me back to my early railfan days in Berkeley, CA. SP was the main freight line and those Nathan P3 horns were a familiar sound. The nearby city of Richmond, CA still has a street named "Espee" which runs along the side of the tracks which of course are now UP.
Thanks for sharing. Miss the old SP
Man those EMD's we worked
That P3 horn at the end sounds a little off tone
Southern Pacific, roll on, roll on!
I live less than 5 miles from those locations. I drive through San Timoteo canyon multiple times per week! Great scenery!
Hey if you can can we see videos made in the 1970s and 1980s of Southern Pacifica territory's from Tehachapi Loop and Cajon Pass areas of the SP Railroad I would love to see more of this time era
Another great time capsule railfanning catch!
Nice.
Love the old SP the old griswold crossing gate and the old searchlight train signals
Hey Fred, that is great SP footage! Thanks for sharing. /Frank

Nice SP footage! Is that on the Sunset Route?
Hello Fred! I wanted to ask if I could use some of the footage in this video for a Sunset route documentary? I will include full credit to you.
