Southern Michigan Beachcombing and Rock Hunting! | Is there real treasure out there?
I had such a great adventure checking out three different beaches in South Haven, Mi! Fossils, beach glass and yes, even some real treasure! Or is it? Please help me decide!

This was a wonderful video! So surreal that the water was out there but the waves were in suspended animation!!! Finds were interesting.. but thank goodness its april now.. no ice falls!!!

Thank you! It was so beautiful and peaceful. Probably the only time you can be almost alone with nature is when it is winter! I love the beach (as you might know😜) and it is fun to see how much is changes seasonally. Thanks for watching and commenting❤️

Thanks! Yes, it was cold, but also my hands always shake!😜 I have tremors and sometimes, especially when it is cold, they are hard to control! I'm used to it but it's hard to do what I do sometimes!😊
That was a nice variety of treasures that you found. I liked the horn coral best. I have never found one this nice! Also I didnt know you could find slag in southern MI. Can not wait for my next trip in June I think. We are thinking about going to Leland this time.

Oh yes that Horn Coral is really cool! I wasn't sure about the slag, but it seems to be in many places on the great lakes. Leland is my ❤️ You can't go wrong there! Have fun!
I thought of you tonight when I watched Wild Kyle's video from this week. He was in TN finding unbelievable slag in a river (after the fossil section). Hope you get to see it!

@@TravelingTreasureFinder He and his buddy "Paleo Chris" are great north-central FL fossil-hunters. Kyle is also a musician - writes his own music (but rarely performs on his channel). Hope you get to watch the video from this week. I've never seen slag as beautiful as what he and a friend found!

I will be there in August, my first MI rock hunt! I’ll be looking for rocks to tumble. Your video has me so excited! 7:55 reminds me of Turritella shell in agate but that’s definitely not agate. 10:45 could it be a crinoid encased in quartz? 13:40 was that a cladapora fossil?

Oh wow - ok maybe I heard correctly? There really wasn't much water exposed at the time and this father and son duo dragged several huge, heavy buckets full of rocks and water back to their car. It was a struggle for them to carry the buckets since the beach is not that close to the parking lot - especially at Van Buren State Park!
Are there any restrictions to size or amounts of rocks you can take off the beaches?

I think there is a law that states you may take up to 25 lbs. per year. There is no rock police (other than the DNR and they don't know how many times you have been to the beach) so I am not sure how they can track that but I guess people need to be honest. (I am certain I have seen people haul more than that off the beach!) If you find a single petoskey stone that is over 25lbs, the DNR can confiscate it. I have never found one that big!

My understanding of Michigan rules is that most if not all Lake Michigan shoreline is free game up to the high water line. Usually, it is simple to discern where that high water line is.

Yes, that is my understanding, but many property owners do not agree 😞
