Wishing you better health Liz. I went through my own health issues but slowly getting better and working out again. I can't work yet but i waste a few bucks on 2 lottery tickets each week and if I beat the long odds and win Lotto Max I'll remember you and send some help. May God Bless you. Stephen Stills is a serious sailor. This song is so loaded with sailing terms most people wouldn't understand them, but it's so melodic that the average listener wouldn't care. That's the genius of CSN. IFYKYK. If not, you'll still enjoy the song.

It's like with bikers, if you know then no explanation is needed, if not then none is possible... I served in the USN on subs, '78-'84...

Can't go wrong with anything by Crosby, Stills Nash, or Crosby Still Nash and Young. Amazing storytelling, and superb harmonies. A personal favorite is "Helplessly Hoping". It's not a long song, but it's just beautiful. Good luck on the job hunt.

I'm sorry about your health issues. I'll say a prayer about that. Good song Southern Cross! You know gangster baby I could turn you on to so much good music. I am a child of rock and roll and know everything great from the 60s and 70s. That was when music was best.

One of the best harmony trio's of all time. Sadly miss David Crosby. Stephen Stills from 'Buffalo Springfield', and Graham Nash ex Hollies who I have been following for 60 years and whose harmony style has influenced me for the 55 years I spent as a musician. Couldn't be replicated. Thank you.

There's a COVER Band called FOXES and FOSSILS who do CSN better than anyone else. The harmnony is spot on. Look 'em up. You won't be disappointed.

Great reaction Southern Cross is the name of a star system in the Milky Way its also featured on the flag of both Australia and New Zealand.

One of my all-time favorites. I first heard it on the radio as a child in the 80's. I had no idea what most of the lyrics in the verses were until much later when I was able to look them up on the internet. They're definitely not cliche. I'm willing to best some of those words and place names aren't in any other popular songs. Anyway, lead vocalist Stephen Stills wrote this song after a divorce when he took a long sailing trip to clear his mind. Sidenote: Crosby doesn't sing on this song or the album it's from. Those big vocal harmonies are Stills, Nash and Timothy B. Schmit from Eagles. You loved the Eagles song, "I Can't Tell You Why," featuring Timothy on lead vocals.

I grew up musically on the roots of Crosby Stills Nash and Young. I was 7 or 8 when the Buffalo Springfield came out (Stephen Stills and Neil Young), not to mention the Byrds (David Crosby) and the Hollies (Graham Nash). All of them were my favorite groups before they joined together as CSN at Woodstock and then CSN&Y on "Deja Vu". Their music is amongst the greatest music of the late 20th century, like the masters of old, e.g. Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, and Brahms, only to name a few. Future generations will rank them in place. I'm a novice musician since childhood, but I learned to sing and appreciate harmony by singing along with their songs.

This used to be my final song on my drive home on Friday nights when I worked out of town during the week.

You can't beat this!

CSN was a supergroup. So much great music. "See The Changes" is a favorite, as is "Carry On" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes". Stephen Stills wrote the majority of CSN's songs.

First time watching - The Southern Cross is a constellation in the Southern sky, usually only visible South of the Equator. He's sailing to Papeete (Tahiti) from Avalon (Catalina) dealing with a recent divorce. Yes, melancholy. Recorded in 1981, long before "Auto Tune" was even a thought, you had to have real talent in order to harmonize like that... This is one of the great songs of that era!

Crux is a constellation of the southern sky that is centered on four bright stars in a cross-shaped asterism commonly known as the Southern Cross.

They are refering to the constellation Crux that can only be seen in the Southern Hemishere. The Southern Cross is whats known as an Asterism of four stars within the Constellation Crus that looks like a Cross. An exaple of an asterism is what most people know as the Big Dipper those stars we plainly see looks like a Big Dipper but the big Dipper is not a Constellation, It is part of the Constellation Ursa Major which is Latin for Big Bear.. Anyway, I remember seeing an interview years ago with a Space Shuttle Astronaut that said he took a cassette of Crosby, Stills and Nash'es that had the song Southern Cross on it up into space with him just so he could listen to the song while he actually looks at the Southern Cross stars. He said it was very emotional to plan and actually look at the Southern Cross from space relating to verses in the song. Anyway, back in the real world,, we see how all these collages and universities always have to protest and even riot about things. There is another song I recomend you react to Lizzie by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young that is not as soothing. It's called, "Ohio". It's a true story about a tragic incident that happened at Kent State University on May 4, 1970 while students were protesting the Vietnam War. This may be the best vid to show actual photos and videos of what happened. APUS Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Ohio (Lyric Video). We all love watching your smiles and fun antics, but this song hits home to the reality that with happy songs there are tragic and sad songs that we need to listen to and learn by also.
