More Info:
CME has been selected by luthier Andy Powers to offer our customers a chance to purchase the debut model from his new brand of guitars, inspired by the hallmarks of Southern California culture!
“San Diego is the pot that I was boiled in,” Andy Powers said at an exclusive press event announcing the debut of the Powers Electric A-Type guitar model. “I’ve lived here my whole life. Knowing what that looked like, what it felt like, and the kinds of things people did-those things shape who you are.”
Designed with the vibrant musical, artistic, and architectural backdrop of San Diego’s North County in mind-think surfing, skateboards, and classic cars-the new Powers Electric A-Type model blends these influences and aesthetics to provide players with a new tool to enrich and inspire their creative expression. Comprised almost entirely of parts made in-house, each Powers Electric guitar requires labor-intensive craftsmanship, meaning they can only be produced in small numbers.

    Received mine and it's a really great flawless build. You do notice a lot of the small details that went into the design - really appreciate how comfortable and lightweight it is. Feels very natural and lived in. The neck feels great and plays like butter. Playing through a Tone King Imperial 20th and the single coils sound killer. Have yet to put it through the paces with an overdrive or fuzz but very happy with it.

    A faraday cage that thin will have little effect on string pull. It probably has some magnetic alloy on the outside of the coils that draws the lines from the strings down through the coil, but it will also create eddy currents that roll off highs to some extent. The Steel screws do that anyway. Fender Jaguar pickups and Lace Sensors have that, and they both have rolled off highs. Strings vibrate elliptically when plucked regardless of magnetic pull, but I'm all for decreased pull. The pickups sound nice, but there are already highly efficient pickups with low magnetic pull that don't have strong eddy currents. Bill Lawerence was the first to do that with his blade designs in the 70s and 80s, then his Wilde NF series in the 90s, and finally, the Micro-Coils b4 he died. He also designed low pull stacked P90 types that didn't have high freq loses.

    Totally. "Faraday cages cannot block stable or slowly varying magnetic fields ..." Which is not to say you can't shape a pickup's magnetic field... just not that way. I think something was mis-translated there.

    It's interesting to hear in the video that this Powers Type A guitar is completely separate from Taylor. But isn't it made in a small shop on the Taylor premises? And doesn't Taylor own the copyright? And isn't Andy Powers the CEO of Taylor? Whatever, marketing separately from Taylor is probably an excellent strategy to maintain demand for a $3800 instrument. All that being said, it looks compelling.

    Agreed. I just buy necks, bodies, pickups and parts I like from independent craftspeople, and do a little sanding and finishing to get what I want for under $1k. Bolt-on necks sustain better than set necks anyway due to coupling force. I chisel out the neck pocket center to increase force and reduce surface area damping. It makes an audible difference. Aluminum can be used around SC or stacked pickups to reduce the harsher upper-mids. It was used in early 60's Strats under the pickguard.

    This guy could make a stick sound good. Honestly, those little details on the guitar are great but do little for me as a professional musician. Also, I think that these guitars are way, way over priced for what you get. I'm not a fan of mahogany necks (bodies maybe) and IMO this instrument only sounds good when it's clean... the rest of the time it sounds kind of flubbed up. Sorry Andy...but it's not for me. Just my 2 cents worth. Peace.

    I miss Taylor when it was all Bob Taylor, to each their own. I’m not an Andy Powers CEO of Taylor fan… V-Class sucks, I played an 814ce $3999, at Sam Ash the other day, very pretty, but sounded and played very bland.

    Can anyone comment on the neck shape? Soft shoulder C type like Taylor?

  • @DavidAzizinamini

    @DavidAzizinamini

    Жыл бұрын

    Its a C-shaped neck. The fretboard has a split radius, different than an end-to-end compound radius. It’s asymmetrical from the bass side to the treble side. The treble side is slightly flatter all the way from the first fret to the end of the board. This allows for maximum playability and easier, choke-free string bending!
