Southeast Georgia Farm Grows Seedlings For Forest Replanting

Georgia Timber producers are busy replanting trees this time of year. Many private forestland owners depend on farms like Bell Farms in Evans County to raise pine seedlings that will grow Georgia's timber industry and the State's economy. The Monitor's Mark Wildman visited the tree farm and has this report.

Here in Brazil we produce pine trees in plastic tubes, Pinus Elliot and taeda. Very impressive to see how they are growers in the native place

I think his last words made me sad: "I think in 25 to 30 years we'll have a new tree". This confirms my doubts that Pine tree grows slow.

@@kelly8431 I have planted two types of Pine trees one of the m is the Aleppo Pine tree, the other I can't translate its name for you. The former, within a span of two years have made a good and acceptable growth, the latter ones did not even made a noticeable growth. When I asked people they told me it is a slow grower. And here I am recalled with the same information by my american fellows.

It depends on the species, some like the Bristlecone pine grow extremely slowly, only a few inches a year, to trees like the Loblolly which can grown 2,3 even 5 feet a year in the right conditions.

@@AhmedCharfeddine There are many factors, the root growth, the closeness to other trees, the water, nitrogen, the soil type, the sunlight. way more complicated than what you understand or comprehend. 15 years is typical minimum for all tree for timber grown in a way to maximize yield. 20-25 is typical for all trees.
