I agree 100% Tony. This council we have is all for themselves. If a councillor doesn't travel through a part of the town to go to the town hall, it gets forgotten about. I've lived here since I was born, and I'm ashamed to say the town itself is a tip (not the coast as that's where the money is spent and outsiders visit) :(

Only the transport has changed a little. Wish whoever drove through Frederick Street had given us a complete tour though, it's not there anymore. 😢

That was the one street I couldn't remember the name of when watching the video. I left Shields in 2014 and in my mind it still looks like the video :-)

The Town Hall and the Old Town Hall at the Market Place together with The Kirkpatrick Bar (The old Marine School) are all amazing buildings.

I used to be clubbing 5 nights a week in victors and oz ...what a golden era as a 50 year old now the town is dead

Miss these good old days but South Shields has totally changed it’s more like a ghost town now.

It’s sadly has. There’s so many buildings that have been abandoned and destroyed wish we could go back to the early 90s when it was a pretty nice place

Wow it's like a time machine, things did seem simpler back then

Look at how easy the journey was then,it would take twice the time now due to the stupid bastard traffic lights all over the place.

Wow I used to live in chichester, inparticular eglesfield road, just around the corner from the chi arms and chi metro. I have also got dronk in the westoe, the county, and, had a girlfriend who was a barmaid in the white ensign, which is now an indian restaurant. Happy days.

Eglesfield Road is extremely rough now...One of the worst streets in shields

I remember it being a lively town and good craic in the many bars. It’s poverty stricken now with nothing more than £ shops and charity shops in king street. Holiday makers must be disappointed and I’m surprised there’s a B and B left as there’s no shipyards (for contractors) and nothing to do other than a miniature fairground for kids.

back in the 60's we lived in the street first left as you turn from Beach Rd into Anderson, it was called Chandeler(?) Terrace back then I think ,theres a carpark in there now, all the row homes have been demolished, which isnt a bad thing , they were terrible back then.Memories of the Town Hall clock chiming :)

The astra at 0:36 wasn't launched until 1998 so it's definitely not in 96

Hotrodngaz . would of been cool if someone had of captured Tyne dock arches towards simonside . Or that toilet at westoe bridges, they have changed so much over the years aye ..a think that store at lagate was turned into Lidle`s , cool video m8

Thanks, yeah shame really. Video camera's were still a rich man's toy even by the early 80's so that'll be one of the reasons we don't have any old footage :(
