I think this is the second time Shub-Niggurath was a boss in a video game. The first time Shub appeared in a video game was in the original Quake. In Quake, Shub was the last boss, and was depicted as a white tentacled blob with large bloody scars for a face. In Quake, you had to beat Shub by telefragging inside her. I got to commend Trey and Matt for their own unique interpretation of Shub for the FBW.

He didn't exactly DO much. Sure he was a racist but he was also an isolated shut-in, so he didn't exactly impact people. However it's not exactly true that he softened in regards to his racism and then became more racist again when he went back to live with his aunt. He simply never stopped being racist but his racism was very distinct and actually less racism and more chauvinism mixed with racism. He saw british culture (even among those living in america) as the only thing of value. White people that did not behave british were "a lower species", black people were "vile beasts" and so on and so forth, but when people of any race integrated themselves into british culture he considered them equal. That's why he married a jewish woman. She was jewish but fully adapted to what people of british heritage considered "cultured". Lovecraft wasn't exactly a lunatic that would make up biological differences between races to establish some kind of fictional superiority but he was instead a sad isolated man going "I know MY culture and I like it, so I like those that integrate into my culture. I do not know the culture of others and whatever I do not know scares me, so I hate people that are not part of my culture.". It was a very narrowminded mindset but I guess it was also the source for his style of horror, since the lovecraftian mythos focusses on things that are scary because you don't understand them and because they can not be understood and their intentions are a mystery. Guess that's what he felt when he came across different people as well: He could not clearly understand their intentions so he ended up being scared shitless.

What I wanna know, is what happens if Shub manages to eat one of your guys. Will you get an instant game over? Will the fight continue with the character missing until the fight ends? Will Shub take damage from eating your guys? Will Shub eating Tupperware cause it to get healed? Will Shub eating a high difficulty Buttlord heal it?

When defeating a chaotic outer god wont even level you up once :/

I remember seeing this for the first time and I was dead

I didn’t have any characters with knockback on my first play through so I had to use reverse knockback with mysterion and then I just fed shub niggurath butters minions. It worked...

This has so much awesome in one fight, SP and Lovecraft.

I used the word "more" for a reason. They both had their moments, its just one game had more moments than the other. Stick of Truth had more light hearted moments than FBW yet still had its share of dark and same with Fractured But Whole. But Fractured But Whole made more darker moments yet still had its share of light hearted moments as well.

Elder Gods can't manifest themselves in our universe. One theme throughout Lovecraft's writing is how existence seems to hang by a thread, and a big part of that entails the fact that these Elder Gods who have the power to tear reality apart like tissue paper are respectively asleep, preoccupied, mindless, or flat-out apathetic. Nyarlathotep for instance is part messenger, part trickster, part custodian. He has too much to bother with to pay any attention to humanity most of the time. Azathoth could destroy the universe with a single conscious thought, but he was lobotomized and has since been a mass of chaos sitting at the center of the universe. Yog-Sothoth by comparison IS an entire universe. There are so many facets to him that Anyone trying to communicate with him would end up communing with a mere speck of of his true being, and even that is enough to drive men mad and bring forth unimaginable horrors of flesh into the world. Meanwhile Cthulhu barely registers on a cosmic scale.

I like how Niggurath's auto-kill countdown is based on real time instead of turns. Way to cheese. XD

Still haven't beaten this boss. First enemy to kill me but boy howdy has she done it a lot. It's so common for the character not to be given the chance to leave the danger zone and get killed arghhhh. Figured out using Craig, Scot and Kenny and spec-ing the new kid in support and knockback is my best bet but I'm still getting whooped!

I was nearly going to finish this fight, but then the game got stuck on one of the egg’s turn

Shub-Niggurath just hasn't been the same since Ranger kicked her ass for all time.

The plantmancer abilities made this fight relatively easy for me. You just keep sending waves of plants pushing them toward the right and keeping your guys left.

This game has such good boss fights.
